You and I both know that JayZ's big splash into the agent world isnt going to be putting his one and only Marquise client in desolate pitcher's friendly park like Safeco. Cano, wants to be a superstar, he can only get that in one place. To me, Cano is stupid. Who walks away from the most clever, snide agent in the entire world, just so you can be someone's new toy and hope they can get you what you want. And im already taken, but you can be my pretend boyfriend!
Jay-Z IMO has done an absolutely HORRIBLE job creating any sort of market for Cano....Boras would have involved a Japanese team or 2
Just want to comment on the bolded parts. About the injuries you're 100% correct. Not sure how running into Adrian Beltre and breaking ribs and having a SS land on his shoulder and breaking it equals being injury prone. They were freak injuries. Nor is Ellsbury "soft". He played this October with a broken bone in his foot and a bum hand. Also he played just fine in a big market city, he'll be fine in NY. This isn't a Carl Crawford fish out of water situation. About the report from SD, I know for a fact that the Sox offer to Ellsbury was 5 years at 80 million. At one point were talking internally about a possible 6th year to bring the total to 100, but it was never officially offered, never heard about a vesting option either. The Sox do not give full no trade clauses to their FAs, it's one of their policies since the Manny Ramirez stuff happened in 2008, plus NTC wouldn't be a huge deal if Ellsbury re-signed with Boston as he'd be a 10/5 guy in the 3rd year of the deal.
Just thought that I would point out that Jacoby Ellsbury is going to be making 153 million for the next 7 years while Andrew McCutchen will be making at least $44,250,000.00 for the next 4 years and if Pittsburgh picks up the 2018 option it would bring the total amount to $59 million. Moral of the story is it works out for the team if you can lock up your star players early. Of course the player has to agree to the extension, which Ellsbury always rejected when the Sox tried to offer him one.
I think i read that he felt slighted by them. He also went as far as to accuse them of pushing him back from injury too soon. Which, btw, Lowell, Damon, garciaparra and a few others have intimated in the past.
His 2010 injury was completely mishandled and misdiagnosed by the team doctors no question about it, the doctors ended up being fired at the end of the year, and Ellsbury got hammered by the fans, media and some players (Youkilis) because of it but I don't think there were any hard feelings between Ellsbury, ownership, front office etc after that. I think the main reason why he never signed an extension is that he's a Boras client and they rarely ever sign extensions and also because I don't think the Sox truly knew what his "real" value was because of his up and down years in terms of production and games missed. As far as Lowell and/or Damon, I truly don't recall there ever being any injury controversies with them but again come be wrong because with Damon we're talking what 8 years ago and Lowell at least 3 or 4. With Nomar, the only injury controversy with him was in 2004 when he said his ankle was hurting him and he couldn't play everyday on it and whether he was dogging it or not.
yeah, thought i read it some where. I really like Jacoby. I hope he steals 60 bases for the yankees next year. He's exciting and has a high motor, i've never seen him dog it around the bases or in the field. I dont necessarily like the money, but if it fits their budget, i'll happily watch him hit triples while driving gardner in for the next few seasons.
He's a fun and exciting player to watch for sure. He's a likable player, never says or does anything disrespectful or dumb.
You Mariner fans, what are you hearing about this Walker and Franklin for Price deal, up there? I can't see why Mariners would trade Walker, but as a Rays fan I would jump on it.
2 years of Price vs. 6 years of Walker, not sure that makes sense from a Seattle stand point. Of course it's possible the GM's reasoning is doing it to try and save his job. But hey maybe Seattle knows something about Walker the rest of us don't, ala Pineda where they were worried he might break down. But hey as long as the Rays ship Price out of town and get nothing good in return for him I'm all for it.
So how would a tiebreaker work? Assuming that 20M number stays which it should, I would think MANY teams wold be in on him, how would they consider who goes first to have a shot to sign him?
I wouldn't think TB would accept anything less than at least their top prized prospect. Also like the Mujica signing by the Sox, also depth to the pen.
No one really knows yet but I've heard two possible options if multiple teams come in at the 20M number. The team with the worst record from the season before would automatically be awarded the bid or the Japanese player is free to talk to all of the teams that submitted the bid.
You can't see why we would want him? He was a 22 year old rookie 2B that posted 12 HRs 20 doubles and a 2.3 WAR in 102 games. As a 19 year old he hit 23 HRs and 25 SBs in A ball. 819 minor league OPS and pretty young for all his stops. He strikes out quite a bit, but he also walks a decent amount. I would LOVE him. Obviously not as the center piece of the trade. But would love him regardless.
He was also, a YOUNG rookie playing in a pitchers ball park. He had a dip after his hot start, but his BABIP didnt help him. I would definitely project him higher then that. His swing is LOVELY. I was in love with his swing when he came up. I think he will be a pretty good player. Either in Seattle or elsewhere...
There's a good article explaining the how the player would then essentially become a free agent getting to negotiate with whatever team he wants providing they put up the posting fee first. http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2013/12/5/5177700/japanase-league-npb-mlb-posting-system-offer-masahiro-tanaka-yankees-dodgers-angels
It's safe to say he may have been a little over matched. Certain things I could see. Like I said, he was a 22 YO rookie, playing in a hitters park. 684 OPS isn't awful.
Wilson was extremely dominant in his brief time with The a Dodgers last year. The market was going to net him anywhere between 8-12 million. The 10 mil price tag is about right. He is smart to grab that second year as a player option though. If he pitches anywhere near like he did this past season, he would easily net himself a better deal next offseason. And if he gets injured or becomes horrible, all of a sudden, then he has the ability to collect an easy 9 mil for a season. The Dodgers paying him as a closer when he will be a set up guy is okay too since their closer is paid like a set up guy, for now. Now L.A. Needs to figure out third base, the last ASAP spot and the outfield conundrum.
idk, i didnt think miller was too bad but i didnt watch every night. i love walker but would do the trade for price if it meant he resigned. i like getting the proven player in trades like that. i mean, we got justin ****ing smoak for cliff lee edit: i guess we also traded adam jones for erik bedard.........whatever trade happens, the mariners will end up the loser of the trade
I honestly don't know how many endorsements he even does in NY. It's not many, that's for sure. I don't think that would hold him back, he'll be the face of the Mariner franchise along with King Felix. In New York, he'll never be THE guy, it will always be Jeter, even when he retires. Not saying he'll get tons and tons of endorsements but I don't think it's that big of a deal.
