IMO that's the best looking Mustang I've ever seen, but then again I've never really cared for Mustangs.

Never been to Germany, but if I do I want to drive on the autobahns. My car's electronically limited to 155mph, but I'm never going to get anywhere near that in the UK, on the autobahn however...

I haven't been duped lol. I also didn't buy it new. While it's true that the used Hyundai would still be cheaper than the used Toyota, that is true of just about any Hyundai. Call me biased but I'll take the Toyota, any Toyota over a Hyundai. The Prius is very reliable. I'm familiar with the Volester. It's too small for me at being close to 6'2" the Prius is comfortable. In fact, it felt bigger inside than the Chevy Malibu I sat in. If I felt cramped at all with the Prius, I wasn't going to buy it. I wasn't going to buy a compact car, which is more like that Hyundai

Last year I put 22K on my car. I'm going to discount his claim of nearly 38 mpg and mine of nearly 60 and go with EPA combined mpg of 31 for the Hyundai and 50 for the Toyota. Im a little skeptical of his claim because the Hyundai is rated at 28 in the city and 37 highway. The gas saving is more like $1,000 in a year

What gets lost in the argument is that buying a vehicle will never save you money. It's always a loss. Using the same calculations I'm saving almost $3K in fuel costs from my Jeep. Of course that 3K pales in comparison to whatever I would spend on a newer car.

I wanted a mid-sized, reliable, fuel efficient car and the Prius is exactly that.

You can buy two Mustangs for what a Jag costs, and four for what an Aston Martin costs. Give the Europeans a turbo Ecoboost four and they may buy this. The Coyote V8 will sell to those who want what they will think is Detroit muscle, and the middle of the roaders will buy the V6 at 300 ponies.

To me, the first problem will be getting it to handle. Mustangs are live rear axle cars. Ford has taken the live axle to the limit of its capability over the past 50 years, and the 10-14 cars handle very well. The independent rear means they have to start over, and these kinds of cars have to handle to sell well in Europe.

Worse, solid axles are what you need at the drag strip. American muscle cars have always had neck-snapping straight line acceleration from a standing start. They are stop light racers. There's too much loose hardware in an independent rear axle for it to perform as well as a live axle off the line.

Mustangs do not have independent rear suspension. This car has independent rear suspension and is therefore not a Mustang, QED. Ford has sold the soul of the Mustang for foreign market share. Un-American is what it is. Damn bean counters.

Sorry, should have said thread. The thread was about how the new Mustang is losing its musclecar roots and your first post said:

I was just saying that Ford and GM "going small" has nothing to do with the topic. That's pretty much what that whole statement of yours was about.

If you didn't but it just for the gas mileage, then no you haven't been duped. I'm talking about the people who think they're saving so much money owning one over a conventional gas powered vehicle. My statement was based on gas mileage alone. If you want to stay in the same brand, crunch the numbers comparing the Prius to the Yaris.

I don't know what Veloster you sat in, but the interior of mine is HUGE. I fold down the rear seats and I fit an Ampeg 8 x 10 bass cabinet, two guitars, my rack mounted amp, and the band's backdrop in the car with ease...along with room for two passengers. I'm not 6'2", but I don't feel cramped in that car at all. And you're definitely biased. Hyundai is making some great cars lately. Might be why they're giving a 100K mile warranty on it, and their customer service is outstanding in my experience so far.

Seeing your wannabe *** driving a Mustang would be like seeing...well....this:

I didn't realize you were quoting yourself there, lol. I can see how you could fit all that stuff in there but I just wasn't feeling it from a driving perspective. Personal preference I guess. That's why I mentioned the Malibu because it seems like a car that would give plenty of room, but I felt tight in it. I test drove the Prius being a bit skeptical but came away very impressed. The car wants you to drive like a grandma, but you don't have to. The car can move when it needs to. The Yaris might be a good comparison but I think that one is classified as a compact, no? I looked at the Honda Insight which is a little cheaper (and a little smaller) and didn't like that one either. It also felt cheap.

Well that's good to know, because yeah I'm biased, lol. I may also be biased against anything close to "compact"

I also have to admit that I like owning a piece of technology like this. As ranges get better in the next of years, I will be seriously considering an electric vehicle. When I do, you can tell me I was duped lol.

Nah...it's all a matter of preference. Personally, I wouldn't get a gas guzzler for everyday driving because my round trip to work every day is 100 miles so I understand the need for MPGs, and being as tall as you are I also understand the need for legroom. With careful driving I've been getting 40 mpg with the Veloster, and even better is the cashback program they started. For some reason they said they misprinted the MPG rating in ads to sell the car, and anyone who owns a Veloster and I think an Elantra can go into the dealer every few months, have their mileage recorded and sent to Hyundai, then Hyundai finds the average cost of gas in your area and sends you a debit card with the difference for as long as you own the car. Since I drive a ton it works out sweet for me....and I'm STILL getting the MPG they originally claimed!

And believe me, I like the Prius, simply because:

I did comprehend. I was supporting your argument. I said I never cared for Mustangs and that I liked this one. Therefore it follows that this Mustang is a deviation from those that came before it.

Wow that is awesome. That is great service. I'll give credit to them for that. Didn't Ford get into trouble with that with the Fusion hybrid?

That's great you are getting such high mpgs. Are you doing mostly highway? My problem is that while my commute is far, it's about 50/50 between highway and "city." The Prius actually does better in stop and go because it runs off the electric motor almost exclusively. In my case, the city efficiency is pretty important. Im getting 58 right now. I could get more if I wanted to, but it would make me a giant douchebag to ride behind, lol. But its true, the mpgs was not the only factor.

    Looks like they took a 2005 Supra and stuck an aggressive aftermarket Mustang front end on it. {by the way, other angles of the new Stang don't look as flattering as this one IMO}

My commute is ALL highway bro. My house AND my job are like a half mile off the their exits. Plus there's alot of hills so I can coast while going down and build up enough speed to get me over the next one without much in the way of hitting the gas. I have it down to a science. Then add the trip I have to make each weekend from Newburgh, NY to Tullytown PA for rehearsal and recording sessions, and you can see why I'm appreciative of that rebate! The car is 2 years old and I have 78K on her.

LOL...ah okay, got it now! But you're not the only one I was referring to. ;)

The new iteration is as close to the last one as the last one is to the older one in your picture.

Neither of which are as close as the Camaro or Challenger to their older models.

Project car right now is a 70 RT/SE Challenger can't make up my mind on paint. Lime green, black vinyl top, longitude stripes, and black out hood as it was original or triple black. It has rubber bumpers so they will be color matched. I've always wanted a triple black but the lime green being original is hard to change.

Not really. I have generally preferred European cars and have never cared for Mustangs. I believe I've said I didn't care for Mustangs before in this forum (I've always valued handling over straight-line speed). Pagan's position was that they had designed this Mustang to appeal to European buyers. This Mustang certainly appeals to me more (at least in appearance) than any previous Mustangs. I was simply saying that I liked the look of this one.
