Seattle does have a glaring weakness. Their OL. They have allowed the same number of pressures as the Dolphins on more than 140 fewer pass attempts. Wilson has been pressured on 43.8% of his dropbacks. Tannehill has been pressured on 32.4% of his dropbacks. But in the same number of pressures, Tannehill has been sacked 48 times (PFF number) and Russell 32 times. And while Russell has a 84.6 rating when pressured, Tannehill's is 43.0.

Thompson and Loomis rode Rodgers and Brees, who were they before them. The Saints were bad last year. their defense was historically bad, suggesting some major holes. The Packers are pretty bad without Rodgers.

Jeff has only continued the poor personnel decisions. He's had 6 years, and the needle is not pointing up. He's been here for almost half of that study.

Seattle's line isn't such a hole that they can't run the ball. They are a much better running team than Miami is.

Well, to think that Parcells was not in charge of the groceries has been discussed to no end...for the first time he had the power he always wanted, to build his team, he took his main scouting guy and gave him a first time gig and let him watch the process, anyone who tries to tell me that Parcells allowed Ireland to make million dollar decisions early in the process of building a team, a job he was hired to do, I can't agree with..

Logic is Parcells gave him a few bones the first few years, and that's not hard to understand considering the circumstances...

The only way to judge Ireland is without Parcells in the equation...

Judging him for everything makes 0 sense and brings the analysis down..

In the years of Ireland threads I've seen very few of his supporters say "Jeff Ireland is a good GM." Just that he's maybe average, or slightly below average.

Based on the fact that I think we can all agree that the BEST evaluation we could give him is average (I'd argue well below), why would anyone think it makes sense to keep him based on the fact he's been involved in 2 very public scandals during his tenure and the fact that he is considered to be an ******* of epic proportions? If his reputation could even potentially cause free agents or coaches to not want to come here, why keep him?

Add to that the loss in season ticket sales from a financial standpoint...

It's a huge risk. One that I hope Ross fully comprehends.

The problem with this assessment is, it hasn't. All the things you mentioned were true last year and they landed a few big free agents.

Because there are different dynamics involved when hiring a new coach..like having the power to pick the Qb..and then giving those pieces a fair amount of time...if this team wins out are you saying from a personnel standpoint, the arrow is not pointing up?

Yeah, they're a better running team but not by as much as some may think. They certainly run more, but their ypc is basically the same as the Dolphins' -- 4.4 v. 4.3 for Miami. And their ypc is boosted by a lot of Wilson scrambles, whereas Tannehill has done that much less.

PFF doesn't grade offensive line run blocking the way they do pass blocking. Footballoutsiders does grade both run blocking and pass blocking though. Seattle's line has an adjusted line yards of 3.99 yards per rush. Miami is 3.65 line yards. Seattle is 12th in the NFL, while Miami is 25th.

Their line is also better at 2nd level yards and open field yards than Miami's line.

Their runningbacks are much better at breaking 2nd level tackles. Lynch is easily worth 0.3 yards per carry more than the Dolphins runningbacks.

These reports about this guy or that guy 'safe' has got to be bunk. First if we tank the season, all of or even 2 of the last three, Irish and Philbin will be ON THE HOT SEAT [period]. Second, the investigation is not done yet. If any of the staff is found to have 'oked' or participated in this, you have to figure Philbin would be also be on the bubble with that. If Irish had any conversations with RI about Martin...this stuff isn't out yet, despite the report that "no smoking gun" was found.

I think, barring something coming out of the investigation, that Irish has got to be worried. He's had checkered successes as a personnel guy. We can sit here and talk about just as many great moves as ones that have not worked out... The teams' record isn't enough, even with this season for him a bye for the bad personnel moves.

Now, I think that Ross is a lot like Hysienga was and tends to 'stick' with people longer than some owners. That can be good or bad. At this point, it's time for Irish to have more of the good moves, going forward, than the other kind. The rest is up to Mr. Ross...it was his decision to keep him around and now he'll be the one making a decision possibly after the season...

Funny thing is, at this point, even if we miss the POs because the Ravens have the tie breaker or if we get in and get trounced in the Wild Card round, you've got to look at this as a successful season....

If we had another timeout, and once again didn't use it, you can say it was another mistake by Coyle...his team was not ready once again, not in position to defend the last play..players with their backs to the Qb.

PFF does grade offensive linemen on run blocking. The only Seattle OL with a positive run blocking grade is Michael Bowie, who has started 8 games. The rest all have negative run blocking grades. That difference in ALY is not that great and the Dolhins actually rate higher in Power Success. 2nd level yards and open field yards are more about the RB than the OL. And after the Tannehill and Thomas runs this week I suspect those differences will be much less once FO updates their numbers to account for this weeks games.

Who selected the players we have who have won us games the past few weeks? Ireland. Keep him.

Some of you have so much hate for Ireland, you can't even be rational about the good players he signed. Last year it was fire him because of the CB situation, he fixed it and now it's the OL. You have to be ignorant to think the coaches don't get a say in who to keep on the team. If the coaches said we want player A over player B, I bet Ireland keeps player A.

    2 things:

1.) Nobody can say with certainty that Ireland hasn't caused players to not play here in the past or created issues with player retention. e.g. Jake Long?

2.) Don't you think this latest scandal might cause free agents to not want to come to Miami if Ireland is still in charge? Unless they are grossly overpaid? e.g. Mike Wallace

He won't even be the favorite from our conference. That is going to be Andy Reid, hands down, no competition.

When they were 9-0 there was no competition. But now they've lost a lot the last month and might back into the playoffs. All moot if we go 9-7.

Considering the situation he is put in by Martin and the team Ireland set up for him, he should definitely be in the running if we make the playoffs. You have to see that despite this vendetta you have against him for whatever reason

To be honest, I think he under performed, even with the Martin situation.

There was only one game this year where I watched where I thought Miami was out classed by a better talent. Other than that, I thought Miami was just as good or more talented than every team they played.

I don't think the refs will be able to save NE this time. Philbin and staff will be blowing their doors off with tape from the first game to make sure we at least get a fair shake.

You've basically identified in a roundabout fashion that a large part of the perception of a GM comes from finding a Quarterback, appropriate or not.

    You mean Philbin underperformed?

I agree there is talent. But the way Ireland designed the roster to fit Philbins criteria was horribly mismanaged by Ireland. Where would we be right now had we invested the money into actual lineman that fit our scheme rather than Wallace? Then drafted a receiver rather than draft Thomas?

    1. As I said, if there's even a chance he should be fired. Jake Long leaving for reasons other than money seem to suggest at least a chance.

    2. Care to explain why you can matter of factly say no to that question? Can you honestly say that a free agent with options would choose to come to an environment that caused a player to quit his team? Whether fair or not, the fact remains the locker room environment in Miami has been dragged through the mud. Ireland helped create the situation. Anybody thinking this scandal won't have a negative impact on free agency if Ireland is left in charge is kidding themselves, IMHO.

Even if Jake Long did leave for other reasons than money, how do you know it is Jeff Ireland. I thought it was more fit in the offense.

    2. I don't think the players will believe that Jeff Ireland's job is to create a locker room environment. That is on Philbin. What player thinks that the general manager has anything to do with the environment in the locker room? Also to be honest I do not think this scandal is regarded much in the NFL circle. Mostly because stuff like that happens everywhere and it was just the Dolphins that got their dirty laundry aired out. Still, it is a huge stretch to put it on Ireland.

That's the crazy part. Our losses have come to some of the lesser talented teams while we've beaten or dominated portions of games vs some of the better ones.

Buffalo & Baltimore at home, at Tampa, 3 of the softest games on the schedule. New England and Carolina, dominated them for a half them fell apart in the 2nd half. Then New Orleans, hung with them for a half and fell apart in the 2nd half.

Wins at Cleveland, Indy, NY, Pittsburgh, home wins vs Cincinnati, San Diego, Atlanta.

There's no credible argument about insufficient talent to be made you're winning the "tough" games and losing the easier ones.

In what aspect of coaching do you think he is poor at?
