being tied with Mario Williams for 3rd in the NFL... and 1.5 sacks shy of tied for 2nd. Keep it up OV!! :hi5:
He could turn in a Pro Bowl caliber season, especially if a few forced fumbles and deflected passes are added to the mix.

    That is all. Carry on.

Somebody remarked about a record Reggie White had that Cameron Wake could achieve by reaching an x amount of sacks this season.

Does anyone remember the specific stat/record and the amount of sacks Wake needs?

I think if his run defense had been better the first half of the season, he'd have had a good shot to make it.

Be hard pressed to hit 14 because of his injury vs Atlanta. He'd need 6.5 in 3 games which isn't impossible, but is improbable.

It is something about the most sacks in the first 5 yrs of a career.

Wake is what, 1.5 away from 10 sacks, for what the 4th season in a row?

Yes, the sack against Rothliesburger was 50.5 for his career.

He has averaged 10 sacks a season for the past 5 seasons now.

I think it's a team record of fastest to 50 or something maybe.

The Dolphins have at least one sack from 12 players, making them the fifth-most diverse pass rush in the NFL...

I like the way you think. I can hear Brady now wincing like a little girl (not that i wouldn't). Followed by acting job to get the roughing the pansy call.

OV has been amazing this year. Though I think Wake helps because I see him taking the double team a lot, meaning no TE or RB on OV's side.

I'm happy to see OV really turning it on this year. However, he absolutely is helped by the fact that Wake gets double teamed almost every snap that they rush the passer.

Without a doubt OV is getting 'helped' by the fact that Cam gets more attention....but wasn't that all we wanted for the last 2+ years? Someone opposite of Wake who could capitalize? All signs point to "we've got it!".

Hopefully he continues improving and becomes a threat all on his own. Learn little squid, learn!

Gotta love the potential in Dion to join in that attack if we ever figure out how to keep him on the field!

Not sure how valid the double team argument is. Wake is not double teamed every play, you would need to see which plays his sacks occured on to draw a meaningful conclusion one way or another.

And roughing the passer would be called on about 6 of those. Just because Tom Brady.

I think the double team thing is a bit over-stated. Wake is going to get more attention, but the protection is going to be varied and situation. There's been at least a sack and a pressure I can recall where Wake drew a runningback in sole protection against him. A lot of what Coyle does in the A-gaps in the blitz game makes it hard to get the defender on the blocker in an ideal situation.

I think I would say that Vernon is facing better opposition at Tackle than Wake has this year.

W/o a doubt thats true but what it also says is hes the type of pass rusher that needs to be accounted for and D teamed when Poss. So IMO his benefiting from wake is a given but in no way does it take away from what he's accomplishing.

It's going to be interesting seeing what the Dolphins do about Dion Jordan's future considering the surface statistics being racked up by Olivier Vernon this year.

Most of Vernon's recent success rushing the passer owes to his ability to redirect and offer chase to quarterbacks that scramble out of the pocket, as well as Kevin Coyle's recent willingness to match Vernon up on interior linemen which I think is something that his strength/weakness profile has lent toward since he was drafted.

If he's still developing then he'll be OK. But if he's enjoying a temporary run, that's troublesome.

Here is a statistic I have always liked tremendously. Something I've been tallying myself for years, before PFF started doing it for me.

    http://www.profootballfocus.com/dat...ason=2013&stype=r&pos=4dp&teamid=-1&filter=50

In terms of pass rush efficiency, Olivier Vernon rank #20 out of 36 qualifying 4-3 defensive ends, by PFF's methods. They calculate that stat a little differently than I have for the last five years. I wanted to see if he would go up or down based on the way I calculate it and he only went down to #22 of 36, so not much difference really.

The question is where do we go from here because make no mistakes and pay no mind to superficial sack totals, Cameron Wake is very much "the man" in Miami and you can see that week to week.

You drafted a Dion Jordan all the way up at #3 overall because he's not just a try hard guy that can track down scrambling quarterbacks or take advantage of soft matchups on the interior. You drafted Jordan and his tangibles that high because you want him to be more than that.

Olivier Vernon reminds me a little bit of a Jeremy Mincey. I've heard him compared to Rob Ninkovich but he's not good enough against the run to justify that comparison (yet). In 2011, Mincey had a solid year in terms of pure numbers. He had 8 sacks, 11 hits and 38 hurries. He signed a pretty big contract off that successful year. But the efficiency numbers were not necessarily all that good. Vernon's are about the same this year as Mincey's were that year.

I think if Miami is willing to allow Dion Jordan to step UP and to have Olivier Vernon step DOWN a little bit, they could really be well off. As I've said since he was drafted, I'm really intrigued to see what Vernon could do on obvious rush downs matched up against guards. I believe I counted something like 4 or 5 sacks/hits on the quarterback this year that came after rushing a guard, which is pretty amazing considering he's only done it maybe a couple dozen times. That's probably the best way to get all three of these guys onto the field enough.
