If anyone has that replay or the video.....if you watch Fields get hit in the face by the ball......that play Sturgis was about to run a sweep, it was a fake field goal....watch it over, as the ball is snapped instead of taking a step forward to kick the football, Sturgis is about to run around Fields for a pitch....but it hit Fields in the face instead....if anyone can watch the video or post it, you'll see what I mean. I think Philbin was calling a fake there.
Could be. More evidence that Fields has a separate contract with the Pats where he is obligated one big screw up per game against them
Field's wife had a kid in the last 48 hours. Not making an excuse, but that would tend to interfere with preparation and concentration .
Yeah, if anything, his wife having just given birth is the real deal. I can't imagine even leaving my wife's side during that time, and he's on a national stage with world class atheletes.
I'm sorry, but that play cracked me up something fierce! It sucked to lose those 3 points and it almost came back to haunt us, but I can't remember ever laughing harder at a Miami Dolphins blunder. Normally I'd be cussing and kicking...
I guess I should have put that in my post as well. Fields is amazing. I was just noting that his head was definitely not on the game today, for obvious reasons. It just came at a bad time and game. Thankfully, in the end, it didn't matter.
I don't know, watching the replay again I think Sturgis had an oh **** moment because he wasn't ready and that's why he stepped to the side. He was talking to Fields still when he saw the ball snapped.
Fields looked off this whole game...It was strange considering his status as a veteran-pro bowl quality punter.
His punts were definitely off today, but I'll tell you what, it feels so good to beat the patriots. Tannehill playing the way he did and the way he did at the end. Man
Fields had 4 punts today. He averaged 47.3 yards and had two of his punts downed inside the 20 (one inside the 2)
I thought the exact same thing when watching the replay... rewound it several times. But then I realized that I think Sturgis saw the ball snapped with Fields head turned and was was reacting to get behind Fields to recover the snap if it didnt hit Fields in the face. It could have been a fake. Hard to tell. But I think he was just reacting to the snap...
Watch some of the other players take off. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap2000000298036/Field-goal-fail
Yup definitely a fake..guy on the left side released and Trusnik did a block/release. Most likely a pitch back to Sturgis where he was going to throw it. Shame that the postgame shows and NFL Network "analysts" don't catch that because their take is "LULZ FG FAIL"
Definitely looks like a fake but I'm not sure it would have worked. Looks like the Pats covered it well.
I would have rather taken the points, honestly with the way our players block I could imagine Fields or Sturgis at the receiving end of a major hit and then we would have been screwed. Besides, wasn't it 4th and 1? Odds say we convert a first down with our regular offense over running a gimmick fake field goal try that I don't ever remember Fields attempting in his past.
Fields' punt into the corner was a thing of beauty though, and great play by Jimmy Wilson to down it. He's become a really solid ST guy, and I hope that we can keep him around in that role for a long time. Not the same style per se, but it would be nice to have our own Steve Tasker or Bill Bates around.
