4 minutes Left. 2nd and 10 and Tannehill gets sacked for a 6 yard loss. Looks like another 3rd and out. Game is pretty much over, based on the way NE has been driving down field on our tired defense. They were just on the field and we were about to punt. 3rd and 16 was a huge play in this game. We didn't panic, and we knew we wouldn't get all 16 yards on this one play. Tannehill was cool, calm and collective and made a nice pass to even make it a reasonable 4th and 5. That play, that drive may go down as the turning point in our franchise. I love it, we never gave up and kept fighting!

Going for it on 4th down was a good call considering Brady was making Edelman look like Jerry Rice between the 20s yesterday. Had they not made that 3rd down play the decision to punt would have been an easy one though.

The highlight of that drive IMHO is the catch by Matthews on the sideline though.

Punting in that situation is another traditional NFL ideal that has been debunked by stats. Going for it there won the game for Miami.

he had a few monumental catches. We are going to have some receiving group if all these guys come back healthy next year. Keller too.

I can semi understand it if we are playing the Bills or Jets... but not the Pats and their offense. We'd never have seen the ball back.

    And Gibson.

You could argue Matthews has been more clutch than Gibson was though.

Soooo true. When have we ever been able to say that? Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Matthews at wr and clay and possibly Keller at TE. Wow. Leaps and flipping bounds from 2012

On the 2nd down prior to 3rd and 17 Tannehill got sacked, and thrown around pretty violently, comes back, sticks the throw to Hartline, then sets up super quick to get the throw to Clay while having to adjust his arm angle..the dude just doesn't get phased by bad plays.

Keller won't be back, in my opinion. Not with Clay breaking out this year and Sims/Egnew contributing more than I think any of us thought. With Wallace, Hartline, Gibson and Matthews manning the four wideout spots, we really are set, in my opinion. Keller would have a hard time finding the field if he did come back.

Plus, we can use the money he made to lock up other spots, like defensive tackle or offensive line.

Even if Keller isn't resigned, Sims and Egnew should be better with another year's experience. Keller should be cheaper next year than he was this year though and I wouldn't be opposed to signing him. No team is going to offer him much above the veteran minimum IMO, coming off that severe an injury.

There was no hesitation in going for it on 4th down, I think we'd already decided we had 2 downs to make the 17 yards when it was 3rd and long.

It reminded me of the Panthers going for it on 4th down from deep in their end. I recall thinking that if they punted we win that game. I think that as the game has become more slanted towards the offense the odds of success on any play, including 4th down have increased.

going for it was a no brainer... don't understand what the announcers were on about.
if we hadn't made it, we would have left the pats with a short field and hoped to hold them to a field goal. which would have given us time to get the ball back and drive for a tying TD.
punting would have given them 80 yards to kill the clock. noway.
