Bear with me a minute guys, and lets see if ThePhins.com family can't pull together something nice for this kid! On my lunch break today, I found a story that really touched my heart and I wanted to share it with everyone. Christmas is just around the corner, and these stories are everywhere, but this is so simple to grant this child’s wish, I figured some others may want to help as well. Lucas Hoelscher is 14 years old, and is a resident of Springfield Ohio. He suffers from Spinal muscular atrophy type 1. The disease left him with zero physical movement. When he was 10 months old, doctors said he wouldn’t live past the age of 1. Here he is at 14 and all he asks for Christmas is letters. That’s right, mail makes him happy. He enjoys reading and looking at words and objects. He is a part of triplets and his other two brothers read the mail to him, and show him the pictures. Lucas’ life completely revolves around his visual skills so this is all he has, and he enjoys it very much. It would make a little boys day that has fought so hard just to receive a quick note or picture from someone. His day is very methodical every hour…..the only thing he has to look forward to is the mail, because he never knows what it can bring him. So if you have the time, maybe even get your children involved to color him a picture, send him a letter to make his day a little bit better. His address is: Lucas Hoelscher 3092 Wyandot Dr Springfield OH 45502 The original story can be found here: http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/news/springfield-teens-wish-send-him-mail/nb83b/ Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone!
These kids are my heart..kids who never got a chance in life..it's why I go crazy when I hear folks talk about being blessed with a physical talent.. Do you know if he's a sports fan?
The article didnt say, but the picture in the article showed a lot of seasme street stuff around him.
His brothers read them to him, and he comunicates with his eyes. He likes visual stuff, so a post card or a picture would be nice!
We should sticky this so everyone has time to get a card or something and find this to get his address. Christmas Card on that way!
That hits pretty close to home for me. Both of my parents met and grew up in Springfield. It's a pretty tough area now compared to what it used to be. I'll see if I can get something together.
CiF should tell him the story about the 18 year old he took to Bob Evans. That plus the accompanying pics would make his year.
Ok thanks. I was trying to figure out if it would be better to send a card or an excerpt from 50 Shades of Maynard. Ill go with the card
I was looking at a Facebook group for this and I came across this post: https://www.facebook.com/groups/525413674212622/ It may help some of you out with ideas. Excuse me while I get to the doctor, my eyes feel wet.
Golly, SICK. Here I've been for the past 4 years, thinking you were just another soul-less banker. No seriously, I'm with Todd on this one. Let's print out the entire CIF "18 year old..." thread and mail it to him. Complete with pictures.
I'm going to do the same. I think that's a solid idea piece of advice. Share the story with your wives. They will make sure it gets done. I think we can all agree that we all suck at life.
Someone post this on reddit (I don;t have an account) and he will be overwhelmed with letters, gifts, and holiday wishes.
Not to be so cynical, but I find the fact that this was on Reddit consequential to this being a huge prank on someone.
What a great thing ...it overwhelms me knowing I'm part of such an amazing group of people such as ya'll. Any time someone says the internet is ruining us..making us less human..I can point to things like this to show they are wrong. Its also a great way to show my kids what Christmas is all about. I'd like to bump this in case some people didn't see it. I just dropped my envelope in the mail today.
I mailed mine last week. I got him one of those singing cards. I think he will enjoy some Christmas music to go along with the pictures.
