LOL, where did the pessimists come from??

this is always the problem, you have a room of realists and optimists and pessimists just stick their nose in everything.

Tannehill has turned the corner so I think that means the Dolphins have. Plus they're not going to lose because I've been growing a beard throughout this winning streak. I started it a few days after the Panthers loss. It is most definitely not coming off now.

Regardless of what happens the next 2 games, we are a better team this year than last(8 wins vs 7) and RTH has taken some significant strides. Those are reasons for celebraiton. Oh and for once, we are relevant in week 15 and control our own destiny. Every win beyond 8 is icing on the cake.

The OP is right. Back in 2010 I thought it was a lock for us to win out and we didn't. That was a crazy year though, we beat a Packer team that went to the Super Bowl and won it but couldn't beat the 4-10 Lions or the woeful Bills when we needed to. There is also the chance although slim that Baltimore wins out and then it doesn't matter what happens. We still need some help from Detroit tonight but more importantly we need to take care of business. A win in Buffalo during the harsh cold months of winter is not exactly gift wrapped for us (no pun).
Seems to me that in a way each game regardless of who we are playing becomes more important than the last game. Marino said something to that effect the other day before our game. He said this will be Tannehills biggest game of his career and then next weeks will be even bigger and so forth. Thats kind of the way I see it too...Yay we beat New England but i've come down from the high..Gotta take care of the Bills.

NO NO NO We don't control our own destiny..Please stop saying that people...We lost to Baltimore dammitt! We need them to lose one of their games which could happen. I'd prefer it to be this one against the Lions and then have them somehow beat New England and Cincy...Then we are talking about a potential bye which would be sweet. However in order for that scenario to work, we would have to win out, Baltimore would have to lose tonight but beat that Pats, and the Bengals, and we would then need the Patriots to also lose their last game of the year which I think is against the Bills and that aint happening.
Screw it...Just root for Baltimore to lose and for us to take care of business. I'm totally fine with us playing those sad sack Patriots again in the playoffs if we have to.

Yes we do control our own destiny. The Pittsburgh win last night saw to that. If Miami wins 10 games they get in one way or the other. The reason being that if Baltimore also wins 10 it means they put another loss on Cincinnati in week 17. That puts Cincinnati at 10-6 [if they beat Minnesota next week, otherwise they're 9-7] also and Baltimore would get the division. Then we'd get into the wildcard over the Bengals based on the head to head tiebreaker. So no, it doesnt' matter what Baltimore does now. Only what we do.

Actually we do control our own destiny.

Remember Baltimore plays Cincinnati, and we beat Cincinnati. If Baltimore wins out and Cinnci goes 1-1 and Miami goes 2-0, that would put Miami, Balt and Cinn at 10-6. Balt wins the Central and Miami gets the wild card.

What do you mean??? We win both of our final two and we are in. CIN lost last night confirmed that because BAL and CIN week 17 locks us in if we win out for no worse than 6th seed.

The playoff machine on ESPN.com confirms it. We root for New England to wet the bed because taking the division would leave open the possibility of a first round bye. It's a long shot but who knows.

Tonights game doesnt matter, DET or BAL can win...heck if you want fun drama you can root for BAL win to potentially make week 17 vs CIN a play-in....plus....its just as fun knowing BAL and NE are next week, and if we can get NE to lose both (BAL and BUF) we can finish with 3rd seed.

Plus, if that happens and if CIN and IND lose one of their final two, we can get 2nd seed and bye.

Lots of sit back and watch and just enjoy with no real need to root one way or other aside for above....and we just have to focus and win out with our own destiny.

Yup, we knew the @NYJ win was key from rivalry standpoint, but then going @PIT and pulling off that W, and combined with yesterday's NE in our house....those 3 wins, combined with PIT beating CIN just opened up the floodgates of possibilities for us.

As said in another thread....we control it by winning out....but whats crazy, is we can still miss out completely from playoffs by losing out, or finish with 6th and final WC, or #3 winning AFCE, or #2 seed with bye.

    CRAZY!!!!

This is the best argument against me saying the team hasn't turned the corner yet. I do agree that if Tannehill has become the franchise QB, then the team will in turn become consistently competitive, i.e. no longer mediocre regardless of record.

I really think Tannehill has arrived and will only get better. The only thing that worries me is silly superstition. Every time I've felt this way about a Dolphins QB said QB tends to regress. Maybe I just need to keep saying Tannehill isn't a franchise QB while secretly disagreeing every time I type it.

If Tannehill has taken that next step though, he needs to finish strong these next 2 games. Severely limit turnovers, no pick 6s (biggest reason IMO they lost to Buffalo first time) and more multiple TD games.

If the Ravens win out the win the North and we win the tie breaker with Cincy based on head to head. 10-6 Abe we are in, period.

No, if the Ravens win out too they get the final spot due to tiebreaker of beating us earlier in the year. They have to lose one and we have to win the rest. If we lose one they have to lose two.

Tonights MNF is huge for us. Need Detroit win, then we control our own destiny.

Win loss record is unfortunately the only way to grade a team. Individual players can be graded on YAC, TD INT, Sacks etc. but the brain trust is graded on W/L rightfully so and as a fan, that's the most important thing to me.

NO, not sure why this is confusing...if BAL wins out they win the NORTH, and CIN would lose to us on Tie-Breaker (cause they face each other in week 17).

Its simple now based on CIN losing to PIT....we simply beat BUF and NYJ and we are guaranteed no worse then #6 spot.....and still have shot for 3rd, or 2nd seeds too.

Tonight has zero impact aside from cushion if BAL loses it give us insurance...but reality is just win out...we are in then.

But there is a factual bottom line to those games played in the end of 2010 and these games now...

In the 3 games in December 2010 (before the last 3) Henne had a 57% comp ratio, 505 yds (5.3 YPA), 3 TD's, 4 INTs and a QBR of 65... Then we played the Bills, Lions and the Pats... How many possible game winning drives ended in INts that year???

In the 3 December games this year Thill has a 65% comp, 843 yds (7.5 YPA), 8 TD's, 2 INTs and a QBR of 103... There is a huge disparity in QB production between 2010 and now...

I know what you are saying Monst, and I agree that we have been through too many emotional roller coasters, not letting enough time to see this team for what it really was/has been, etc...

But consistently good QB production is the most essential part, as we all know, to winning football games... It seems now we are on the verge seeing that consistency show it self... so now we have to make sure that the FO places play makers and solid football players around him...

These last two won't be easy, but the goal is within reach as long as the focus and production stays consistent...

Baltimore and Cincy play each other. Baltimore is 7-6 and Cincy is 9-5. If Bal wins out, Cincy ends up at 10-6 at best and we get the tie breaker over them. If Cincy wins out, Baltimore ends up 9-7 at best. This of course assumes that we win out and end up at 10-6. As long as that happens, the loser of the Cincy/Bal game is out and we are in.

If Miami goes to Buffalo..and wins..we have turned the corner. This game..is the classic Dolphins let down game. Winning it shows we have put that history behind us.

No offense VT, but the false benchmarks have become overwhelming lately.

This is for everyone, as it stands right now, the Dolphins are contenders. Forget if we win this or that, or if Jupiter aligns with Venus and a pixie farts in a southeasterly direction.....we are relevant right now. We control our destiny. We just beat the Pats. Tannehill is playing 100 rating ball. We have turned the corner.

I stand corrected! week 16 was a debacle!

But, the corner is still coming up.....LOL

Yup, need to beat NYJ, then hope CIN beats BAL and we are in with no other help needed. however, if BAL wins, then we need SD to win to all end 9-7 and MIA gets 6th seed.

If the Dolphins lose, they cannot make the playoffs. If there’s a four-way tie at 8-8 between Miami, San Diego, Baltimore and the Jets (who, by beating the Dolphins, would be 8-8), Baltimore wins the Wild Card. If there’s a five-way tie between those teams and the Steelers, Pittsburgh would win the final spot in the playoffs.

They had the corner in sight. Were running towards it at full speed. But failed to watch the ground and slipped on a banana peel and landed face first into a dirty puddle.
