That's the thing. We had a slight upgrade in the wide receiver position with free agency, though we grossly overpaid for someone who is giving the team 35 yards above what a replacement level player would give them. In the process though, we significantly downgraded the OL and the linebacker position.

Honestly, I'm amazed this team has 8 wins with the holes this team has. It's a credit to the coaching of Joe Philbin.

I agree with most of what you say, but a garabge coaching staff wins 4-5 games with the talent this team has. This coaching staff has milked 8 wins out of this talent.

The bottom line. The players are what determines wins and losses, not the coaches. This team has to get better players.

My gut says the Jests will be all fired up to put a nail in our coffin and will stomp a mudhole in our collective asses next week.

Funny how after one game, some of you are so down on the team, having doubts of Tannehill, want the coaches fired etc.

Listen... THAT'S THE NFL. Nobody is going to go 16-0 with blowout wins every week. IT HAPPENS. Teams don't match up well with other teams. Their d-line is fantastic, and our o-line obviously couldn't handle it. You know what? Move on, let's focus on next week. This is still the same team that went into Pittsburgh and handled their business. This is still the same team that took care of Brady in Miami. And yes, this is still the same QB that had 3 TD's and game winning drives in both. Nothing has changed. This is the type of game that wakes everyone the f*ck up. Maybe the good lord didn't want us strutting into week 17 only to get showed up on our home turf with the playoffs on the line.. maybe this is what we needed. You better believe Tannehill and the boys will be ready for war this Sunday. The playoffs are on the horizon... let's do this.

    Phins Up.

Did you not see the game? This wasn't your run of the mill NFL loss. Had we lost 23-21 on a last second FG people wouldn't be jumping off bridges.

We got our chili holes completely knocked sideways by an inferior team, when we needed to win the most by the way.

My gut says the same thing.

I don't change my "gut" because of one loss.

They will beatdown the Jets next week. Make the playoffs...then win a thriller in the first round vs. Cincy. Then play the Broncos tight for a half in the second round..and then lose by two touchdowns.

Here's the thing. This team has a GM that used the 1st overall pick on Jake Long, spent $30 million on Jake Grove, spent $25 million on Justin Smiley, used a mid first round pick on Mike Pouncey, a 2nd round pick on Jonathan Martin, and two 3rd round picks on John Jerry and Dallas Thomas. Why does this team have an issue with blocking up front with all those resources spent on those players?

It should also be noted that while we have been spending money and high draft pick resources on linemen, we cut Evan Mathis, who is the best guard in the league now.

There is no excuse. This roster has been horribly mismanaged for going on 6 years now. We overspend in free agency. We do not get maximum value out of our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks. The team has a very limited number of players who are true difference makers.

6 years on the job, and this GM still has not built a play off caliber team and has a team with major holes in area that he has spent major resources.

Who knows what to expect, from Coach Sherman's vaunted offensive mind....What will he think of next?!

    incorrect.

The Bills are MUCH better than the Jets. (forget the records)

The Bills have a sledgehammer run game and an insane pass rush. Both strengths that prey on our weaknesses.

The Dolphins are what they are.

They're a decent team that with this talent and this coaching staff is going to win between 7 and 9 games. This year, 9-7 might be good enough for the playoffs. Doesn't change the overall nature of the talent level on the team.

Think about it. If we lose to the Jets, we will be the ultimate picture of medicority. 8-8 overall, 4-4 at home, 4-4 on the road. That is the definition of middle of the pack team.

Until our talent base and coaching improve, we will continue to play very tight games that can go either way. There is no inherent skill to winning a one score game. Sometimes the bounces will go your way, sometimes they won't. The better teams usually aren't in a ton of one score games and they make their own luck by simply avoiding scenarios where one flukey play can beat you.

That is not reality anymore. it is a one score league. Look at the Patriots. There are only a couple of elite teams...the rest are all in the same boat.

Completely agree. The Bills match up against us very well, for them. This is why I was worried about that game. I didn't think we would win, back against the wall or not. We have to many IMPORTANT holes to be a playoff team and we will be better in the long run if we don't make it, or we SHOULD be better. This is where Ireland comes in. He needs to move on. I have lost any hope that he is the right person for the job. It wouldn't bother me to see Sherman go too.

Pats are an anomaly this year. Denver is +187, KC +128, Seattle +168, SF +121, Carolina +124

We're -5. And we might still be on the minus side even if we win. Even if we end up at +25 or something, that is the sign of a mediocre team. this eyar, our 9-7 might be good enough to get in, and that would be wonderful, but it doesn't change what you are as a team.

Minny last year is a great case in point. They had a fluke run behind an all time great season by AP. Now they suck again.

I tend to agree. I think the WR acquisition was a good one even at the price. The negative is the best acquisition is a one year loaner that we probably won't re sign and have free agents at our position of strength with huge cap space tied up in mediocre players at the LB spot.

This team is mired in mediocrity. And will stay there as long as Ireland is the GM.

Baltimore wet the bed against the pats.....Saints wet the bed against the Panthers Basically playoff teams battling. WE WET THE BED AGAINST THE BUFFALO BILLS! And looked totally disinterested in the process. People were on here crowning the phins last week ....changing of the guard....nobody wants us in the playoffs...Pats ERA is over..We wake up this morning and the Pats win another division and we need help to get in. And most peoples answer to this is..Forget this game..Bad match up...That game does not matter..all that matters is THIS week. Problem is, THIS WEEK MATTERED! It totally mattered.

They play in that all the time. Seriously...have you ever been in wet cold windy weather? And Im not talking...just some wind. When the ref has to keep the ball from blowing off the field...trust me..the weather had alot to do with the team just basically folding.

My gut tells me we are making the postseason.

My gut tells me that this team lacks mental toughness and a professional approach every week, and that starts with the coaching staff and leaders in the locker room (not sure who those leaders are, but the vocal veterans who hold people accountable and keep the team's competitive edge help you avoid the proverbial 'let down' or 'trap' game like yesterday). This approach/attitude is built over years in the League, and I think we'll get there. But at the moment, lack of consistently high-level professional preparation is causing us to play down to our competition. How else do you explain beating 3 division winners (NE, CIN, IND) and 2 wildcard contenders (SD, PIT) while losing to the lowly Bills and Bucs?

My gut also tells me that if we're talking about firing coaches, Sherman is the guy I want gone.

My gut tells me Tannehill is our guy, but he's young and these things like yesterday are going to happen when he has no support from the 10 other guys.

Point differential is tricky. it gets skewed by singular performances...which makes it a worthless stat..ultimately.

The metrics I care about screamed 7 to 10 wins at the start of the season...they have trended strongly toward 9 to 10 wins as of late and they are now resting in the same place they were all year....9 wins.

    They are perfectly mediocre.

Not hating on you but, Come on...Bills put up 400 yrds, tackled people, showed emotion, battled the weather. What field were they playing on? who was their QB? Hate excuses, can't only use them when we lose. We would've got our *** kicked in any stadium, in any weather yesterday, Period. We were not ready yesterday, hope we are ready next Sunday

They did, but that by no means excuses what the offense did. This wasn't a case of players just losing one on one battles against more talented players. This was a case of players being asked to do things they have no business doing. Mike Pettine whipped Miami's staff.

The problem I have with Philbin is that I haven't seen anything from him that makes me say "That's our guy." He's far too "middle of the road" for me, and I fear with him at the helm we'll always be just a .500 football team.

He isn't fire and brimstone, but he also isn't a master tactician either. He doesn't motivate his guys to play above their individual skill level, nor does he out-scheme his opponent. He says the right things about what needs to be done, but doesn't do them and is painfully slow to change. He just seems to go with the flow, and the staff he assembled is a complete failure.

As a team, we have absolutely no identity under Philbin's tenure, and our lack of identity stems from his lack of direction. His defining characteristic is the fact that he has no defining characteristics. To me, that's a problem.

Dolphins have not had a great game yet under Philbin. They've been consistently mediocre to bad on offense, and mediocre to good on defense this year. There is nothing great about this team.

Lol..see what I mean. Dude u have no idea what your talking about. I'd rahter play in 10 dry weather then the **** they played in yesterday. It miserable more then you can imagine. Its the cold...plus RAIN..and the worst part is the wind. Once it started going downhill..we had no chance. That wind was messing with Tannehill big time.

Our run defense is poor and the teams with poor qbs are fine with trying to run it down our throat... And it works. The other teams played more to our strength.

While the coaching has been decent at times, it has been absolutely awful way too often. The failure of this coaching staff should be the top reason why Jeff Ireland/Dawn Aponte/(whomever identified and chose them), should be fired.
