I agree completely. I think we should all take a moment to reflect on the fact that Tannehill and Charles Clay seem to be the ONLY offensive players on this team who have actually gotten better over the last two seasons. Everyone else seems to have either stayed the same, or regressed. In my opinion, considering the complete failure that is this coaching staff, that says a lot about Tannehill and his makeup. The guy is getting better, however slowly, while everything else around him is crumbling.
This is the same offensive scheme that the Packers use and have set offensive scoring records with when Philbin was the offensive coordinator for that team. The scheme is not the problem. The players and execution of the scheme is the problem. The Dolphins have the worst offensive line I've ever seen at the NFL level. When you can't win one on one match ups up front, you aren't going to score very many points, no matter how well your quarterback plays.
Thanks bro. A little humor is just what we need. I have a 1 yr old who knows to get in her two point stance when I yell the cadence, I'm gonna go tackle her a few times after I finish off this Cognac.
You are wrong. Coaching only has so much of an impact. This team has the worst Lb's in the league, easily the worst Oline in the league. Safeties played like **** in pass coverage all year. RB's had no holes. Coaching can't overcome that no matter who it is. The Jets don't have a lot of firepower offensively but they do have talent. They have the best Dline in the league and a very good oline.
Where is that team less talented? They have a better offensive line. They have better running backs. We have better receivers. Their DL is close to equal Miami's. They have better linebackers. The secondaries are about equal. Miami has the better quarterback.
I hear you bro, I have a list of issues with the coaches too. But when I say make a play that's what I mean, make a friggin play. Not, the coach called the perfect blitz, play, coverage etc. I mean a guy taking it upon himself to beat the block, break the tackle, make the strip, call the audible, score the ball, force the TO, etc. Nobody did it today. We basically had 45 guys out there waiting for the other 44 to make the difference.
RT is not what we need to worry about. The coaching staff needs to go, vanilla play calling, very predictable. No RBs, OL, Linebackers, and need another good WR Team needs ALOT to be "good"
They played like a team with nothing to lose. This actually happens a fair amount because of that effect. Look at Baltimore.
The best D line was last week. The Jets got zero sacks today. But we have the worst oline. Yeah makes sense. The Jets were picked to have less than 5 wins because of talent. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
Atleast you guys are rationally thinking so soon. I'm still undecided whether I want to jump off a cliff, steer into oncoming traffic or jump in front of a train. All three sound much more enjoyable then watching those last two dolphins games.
We just got run out of the stadium by the Bills and Jets after beating the Pats, Steelers and Jets. It's not about talent IMO it's about effort, urgency, and playing under the pressure of increased expectations.
While there is still potential for Tannehill, if you can't see that he is very inconsistent and no lock to be a Franchise QB, then you may be the clueless one my friend. This is the guy that is between 7th and 22nd in every statistical category for a QB. He hasn't dominated one aspect of the QB position and that's due to inconsistency. We must and We WILL draft a QB to light a fire under his butt in the 3rd Round, that is guaranteed.
Um..so how about changing it to fit your personnel? Belicheck didn't prefer a high flying no huddle offense when he started, but he realized he had better offensive personnel and had his OC tailor it to his team. You think McCoy liked running the ball 80% of the time with Tebow? The best teams have a GM and coach that adapt and find systems to change to their team. We have neither the GM or coach for that. I would fire Philbin as soon as we can to try and pry Bill O'Brien or Whisenhunt away.
Yes. He's clearly the problem. A good QB with this exact same team and coaching staff wins 14 games. You've got it all figured out
Its not all about sacks. The dolphins o line was better today pass blocking. The jets have the 5th and 7th best 3-4 DE's and the 4th best DT in the league according to PFF. They have an amazing defensive line. The jets were picked to win 5 games because they had mark sanchez and Geno smith as their qb's and limited skill position guys. Im not saying they are more talented than us but to call that team not talented is idiotic.
I don't think anyone is on the fence with regard to Sherman ... I think we all 'accepted' him initially to help Tannehill along, even the same for this year for continuity -- but IF there is even consideration that he stays for anther year, then Philbin needs to be fired immediately. Coyle, I'm not excited about either ... but the defense has played well 'enough' to win more games ... Philbin, I don't care ... to me - he is easily replaceable .... like defense, I do want a HC that has and shows some passion --- I don't want a 'manager', I want a leader!
Love the flip flopping on Tannehill. Its a joke. Yes he buckled today but so did this whole team. This was ALOT to put on a 2nd yr qb, hey the whole team sucks so it is up to you to win and get us to the playoffs, all on you. now he didnt play well, but I will wait to see if they bring in new coaches and new gm that are qualified and can coach and find talent and see if RT progresses next year. if they keep this regime forget it, you have doomed this team to failure and I will be convince Ross' motivation isnt winning rather the appearance of trying to win just to keep $ coming in.
Unfortunately there's no telling until we know who will be coaching and GMing next year. Also, anyone know our draft order?
I'm not blaming in it all on the stadium..it's part of the reason it's so difficult to win at home imo...but you must find coaches and the right type of players that can overcome it.
See I can't tell if this person is just completely clueless of facts or is just a huge troll on the site. Tannnehill was moved to WR because there was an established starter that was better than he was, and and he was too good of an athlete to let sit on the bench and not play at all to help his team. He started as a QB in HS and even after being asked to play WR he still was listed as a QB on the roster, and attended not one WR meeting but every single QB meeting.
It wouldn't be surprised if Ireland or Philbin were fired. I would be surprised if both were to go this offseason. More likely scenario is Ireland is fired this offseason, and Philbin next. Maybe a new stopgap coordinator or two. Slim chance they can find quality coordinators to come here and coach under and lame duck coach.
I don't know that I agree with that, but he's still playing checkers out there while the really good QBs are, of course, playing chess. He might become very good, not great in my opinion, but he's consistently overrated on this board imo. There's no getting around the deep ball issue- Wallace was signed to provide a deep threat, and in this offense RT has to make those throws, he's just not good enough and the offense isn't good enough to consistently pick apart defenses. They needed to score more this year when the opportunities presented themselves, and they didn't, couldn't close the deal. The OL sucks, the not letting Tannehill roll out more and use his legs more sucks, and both have to be changed imo, the OL needs to be rebuilt and Sherman needs to hit the highway, with Ireland and Philbin on each arm. I'm hopeful as to Tannehill's future, but I think that we might have had a better chance to win the last 2 games with Matt Moore in there, RT was just garbage in the final two money games.
yup. They played their asses off for their head coach. We couldn't even pay ours off for the Playoffs.
So you didn't watch the NFL when David Carr was sacked an NFL record number of times? We can agree out line is terrible. However most good coaches don't ask their lineman repeatedly to do things they have previously shown they cant. Most good coordinators find a way to MINIMIZE deficiencies not bring them into clear focus weekly. Most teams with poor lines sometimes run these whacky plays called screen passes and draws. Some with mobile QBs even do insane things like moving the pocket to minimize pressure. It mau be the same basic system but Philbin wasnt calling the plays, he was creating the game plan which there is no evidence he does here. So it may be the same type of system, but it is being by a horribly inept coach..
How does the game go if we have Hartline, Gibson, Binns and Keller? I bet that's what Philbin and Ireland are thinking. Coyle is drinking heavily while complaining that Patterson, Taylor and Davis gave him nothing this year. It's not like we had a huge amount of injuries but they were all at WR and CB. I wonder if Ross will buy it.
I believe we're currently picking 20th, with the best case scenario of 17th. It doesn't look good as we're sitting at the bottom of the slew of 8-8 teams b/c of SOS. We can move up 3 more spots each by a Rams come from behind loss to Seattle, a Packers loss, and a Dallas win.
We can't be 20th, there's 12 playoff teams plus the Cardinals and Saints (whichever misses the playoffs) have better records.
