Eh, maybe if he were a 5th year QB I'd think hey we have Donovan McNabb on our hands here. I'm not that concerned.
The offensive line, who never "make plays" had their best pass blocking game of the season. They gave Tannehill plenty of time to make a play. He didn't make enough.
I agree.. Best game where they kept Tannehill on his feet. I also saw enough of whiff blocks today that were borderline laughable( watch John Jerry on the 4th and 1
Did Tannehill crap down his own leg today? Yup Is it way too early to definitively say what he is as an NFL QB? Yup
I'm not calling for a new QB. I like Tannehill. He has consistently improved, and we don't know yet where his ceiling is. But you never really know what you have in a QB until everything is on the line. Today was Tannehill's biggest test yet, and he was awful.
I tried to say this before the game so many times...teams that have NOTHING to lose, if they're able to stay motivated, they're extraordinarily dangerous to teams that have everything on the line. Today we're seeing it all over. The Dolphins choked. The Ravens were gifted three picks by Andy Dalton but choked horribly. The Chargers are choking against Kansas City's BENCH.
And before that his biggest test was against NE, and he was great. I think that's just the ups & downs of a young QB. We should know for sure what we have in him this time next year.
For ****'s sake...yeah, let's bring children with disabilities into a football discussion. That is gonna work out JUST GREAT for all of us.
I agree! Growing up and watching the Dolphins, we were one of the elite teams in the NFL. Now it seems we are just a joke that expects to find a way to lose every year.
Yep if SD loses Pitt is in. Can you imagine how it bad it would be if we lost to a division rivals.....BENCH with the playoffs on the line? WOW.
Andy Reid is a man among many boys in the HC ranks. He looks like a walrus perhaps but what he has done KC is stone cold awesome. The man pisses excellence.
And fire the OL coach. Philbin still has some hope, imo. But, if he doesn't fire Ireland it is a complete fail. Ireland must be the first to go - that has to happen right away. And, then go all out for a top young GM from a good program. Tannehill had a bad game. But a) he's still young; b) he's been crushed all year; c) his OC hasn't done him any favors; and d) QBs - all QBs - need confidence. That starts with a good OL. Tannehill did not have that. Had he had that and been able to make a few more plays I think he'd have been a better QB at the end of the season.
Cooled Off??? I'll cool off when this team can actually win a freaking game that matters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very much agree. But don't mistake all "biggest test" yet as being equal. This was bigger than the New England game. If they made the playoffs, a Wild Card game would have been a bigger test and so on.
I think Andy is upper tier but I wouldn't say what he did in KC is a surprise. I believe they had 6 pro-bowlers last year and the only real competition in the division is the Broncos. I'm not belittling what he did but he knew the smart move was KC and he needed a QB. The guy does make star QB's and trade them off to suckers like the Dolphins.
Coughlin has 2 SB wins under his belt. Rex has been to the AFC Championship game twice. They earned the benefit of the doubt.
3.7 is good run defense. Especially when Geno Smith runs for 44 of those yards. Not having Dion Jordan shadow Geno Smith is a head scratcher.
And consider who Rex has had playing QB for him since he's been in NY...I'd say he's done a wonderful job. I'm not savvy enough to critique his X's and O's, but his players play their asses off for him.
And they were lining up their defensive line in the backfield and giving carries to Sheldon Richardson. That's the epitome of getting embarrassed.
Yup Geno Smith was going head first and diving all day long with absolutely nothing to play for...our boy needs to have some guts in these scenarios
Amazing to think, we had that incredible talent in house and moved it due to "personality" issues and kept Incognito on the roster and drafted Martin. Hooray character.
I love that every other team in playoff contention is at least putting up a fight today even if they are losing. The Dolphins are the only "contender" who looked like a complete joke of a team. The Jaguars or Redskins would've put up more of a fight. We basically just re-watched the 2002 season. They beat the Raiders and tied them for the #1 seed in the AFC in Week 15, then they go and lose to 4 win Minnesota and blow a 10 point lead in NE with like 3 minutes left in the game and miss the playoffs completely. The Dolphins won their Super Bowl against the Patriots i nweek 15, then packed it in for the year without even putting up a fight. The 2002 team had much more talent though.
Remember when those who defended the trade said it was necessary because Philbin's offense doesn't have a #1 receiver, or something like that?
And have receivers that can play multiple positions? I recall Wallace on the right, Hartline on the left damn near every play this season.
This defense was absolutely disappointing this year. So was the offense. The run defense was awful. Nothing short of awful. They were a few yards short of giving up 2000 for the season. Let that marinate around in your head for a little...2000yds!!!! Btw...we were not exactly playing defense against NFL super offenses the last 2 weeks. Ranking 25th against the run coming into today is not anything I am giving close to a passing grade to
That slide was SOOOO Ryan Tannehill. Let me explain the elements of it that make it Ryan Tannehill's universe wrapped in one marble: 1. How did we get to 3rd & 21 in the first place? On 1st & 10, Ryan Tannehill scrambles out of pressure in the pocket, rolls to his right, and throws a DIME to Marlon Moore off the scramble. Marlon Moore of course should not be on an NFL roster and so he did not create separation from Antonio Cromartie on the play, nor did he secure a football that hit him on the hands. 2. On 2nd & 10, the Dolphins (predictably) run the football up the middle for NO GAIN. 3. On that play, one of the offensive linemen gets nailed for a holding penalty. 4. Prior to the 3rd & 21, Ryan Tannehill made a very, very keen pre-snap read. He read the man coverage AND the rush pattern, knowing that if he could break free of what should be a gap in the right side of the line, then he would have a wide open middle of the field as nobody would have their eyes on the quarterback. And with his speed, he can make 20 yards happen in 2 or 3 seconds no problem. It was really a very, very good pre-snap read and adjustment at the line. 5. He showed the speed and ability to make good on the plan. He had the first down in a situation that was next to impossible to convert. 6. He then BOTCHES it by sliding too early. 7. And that would not have mattered if the Miami Dolphins had ANY short yardage game whatsoever. But as I argued many, many times prior to the season, the Dolphins are built to be a poor short yardage team. Mike Pouncey is poor in short yardage. The offensive linemen are not quick enough to fire off the line of scrimmage in those situations. They don't have a true fullback. They don't have a decisive tailback who can convert short yardage reliably. And because of all this Mike Sherman has felt the need all year long to get creative in short yardage whereas if he had the tools in place he would just be running power right up the middle. I mean...just count it down from 1 to 7...that was the Miami Dolphins and Ryan Tannehill in a goddamn nut shell.
