Ryan Tannehill is an average QB not a great one.

Well, yeah because he lost. You get praised when you win and ripped when you lose.

exactly, while Ryan didn't play great today, or likely last week (which ill admit, I didnt see, I was on vacation), today I saw a whole team play bad, last week, seemed to be the same from the highlights, and the box score.

The media will have you believe its all on the QB... but its not. Football is the ultimate team sport, always has been, and always will be. People need to realize that.

How about some solidarity? You think if Wilson or Luck came here we would be magically better? This TEAM is bad, and the QB position is one of the better aspects right now.

Luck and Wilson are better than Tannehill.

I'd be completely shocked if Tannehill turned into an elite QB.

Name an elite QB that didn't make the playoffs his first two years as a starting QB?

It just doesn't happen. History shows us this. Elite QB's are molded by early success. Tannehill hasn't had that.

At this point, you hope he turns into a solid QB and build a team around him. He's not going to be a guy that makes other players better.

They are playing for better teams. My point is neither of those players could make Miami as good as Seattle or the Colts.

If you think it's all that simple of making or not making the playoffs in your first two seasons then you are just naive. Besides, the term "elite QB" has been trivialized to no end when the likes of Eli, Brady, Matt Ryan, Romo all flop back and forth between being great to being above average or worse.

The first part of this is true, no doubt. Not just better team mates surrounding them on the field, but better coaching as well. Now, could Wilson or Luck make our offensive players, (and defensive, to an extent) better... well that's debatable. Good QB's can do that. Just look at Brady and the garbage he's had to work with this year, but has still been effective. Manning in Denver. Good quarterbacks, make the players around them better. They teach the WR's how to become better, because they are leaders, they get the WR's on the same page, teach them where they want them to be in certain situations. I dont think Ryan is there yet. I think we saw that alot today with alot of Ryan's early passes to nobody. He's expecting a WR to do one thing, they do another. That happens only rarely with the best of the best QB's. Ryan just isnt there yet, his inexperience has alot to do with that I'm sure. His inaccuracy likely has alot to do with all the pressure he's been under this season with our miserable OL.

I do think Wilson, or Luck would make this team better... but not to the point where we'd have been crowned super bowl champs in a month or so. That's not a knock on Ryan, he's just not there yet. I think he can, but its going to take coaching changes, and personnel changes on the field to do so. Next year we should see if he grows into that field general type that makes guys around him better.

But Brandon, unless Wilson and Luck can teleport in someway that Ryan can't then I do not see them standing up straight behind our O-line after the snap either.

Well, I can see both of them being somewhat successful behind this OL... both Luck and Wilson are extremely mobile, and seem to have better pocket awareness and escapability than Ryan has developed, or at least shown at this point in their careers. Now, that may be coaching, because we saw Ryan run alot more last year, but we'll never know that. I know this OL is bad, and its hindered Ryan this year, and likely would have given Luck and Wilson fits too, but Ryan's refusal to run, while admirable, is a bit frustrating at times... now whether thats on coaching or Ryan, we'll never know as I said. Hopefully next year, with more experience and his decision making gets better things slow down for him even more and he uses his legs more when things break down.

The one thing I loved about Ryan this year... his decision making while throwing. Last year there were alot of bonehead decision INT's, we didnt see alot of those this year. Still alot of INT's, but not many due to poor passing decisions, or poor reads.

Fair, but Flutie played in Brees' second year. In Brees' 2nd full year of starting they went 12-4.

Russell Wilson has relied on a great O-Line and fantastic running game. Doesn't hurt that his team is the #1 Defense in the league as well. He'd be struggling if he were here. Tannehill would be a star in Seattle.

He had plenty of time to throw today and his accuracy was terrible. Tannehill had a decent season and has the talent to be good but the last 2 weeks he was a part of an abysmal offense. Really the offense has been mediocre to bad the entire season. He has to improve his accuracy downfield if the dolphins ever plan on winning anything.

I agree that the word elite has been diluted and it's different for everyone.

But what do all of those QBs you listed above have in common? They all went to the playoffa within their first two years.

How do most QBs come to be elite? The media labels them as such. And they generally do that when a young QB leads the team to the playoffs. It's a springboard for future success.

It's just much more unlikely to find one that doesn't have early success.

The good thing about this season is that a lot of young guys progressed into solid players (Clay, Vernon, Odrick, Matthews, Clemons, Carroll) and Tannehill is absolutely one of them.

He didn't play well in the last few games (hell, no one did) but I have no doubt he is our guy going forward. You give him a better offensive line and a better run game and he will continue to shine.

He also had 3 full seasons to develop before they went 12-4. Those 3 seasons he had a QB rating under 80. That also doesn't factor in that he was a 3 year starter in college.

It does not matter what other QBs have done. This guy cannot score or drive this offense. Just because he can throw far hashmark sideline pass does not mean he can play. he can't play because he can't score or drive this offense.

wilson also due to the reasons you stated is not relied on half as much as tannehill. the seahawks are similar to the jets that went to the two afc championship games. dominate running game, dominate defense and a quarterback that makes enough plays. i think russel is far better than sanchez but i just see similarities to the two teams. if wilson has our running backs, and oline and is forced to throw 30-40 times a game i doubt he is as effective.

No, it was his 2nd year of starting (3rd year overall). He opened the year as the starter and got benched for Flutie because he wasn't playing well enough (led team to 1-7 record). His 3rd year starting was when they made the playoffs.

Really cant believe what Im reading in this forum. Some of you really need to do some homework. I just read that Brady "flip/flopped" between being elite? Really? The guy has been a top 3 QB, if not the best QB over the past 10 years. And now this ^^^ Actually Seattles oline is pretty bad. Wilson has been pressured more than any QB in the league since he came in. Homerism running wild here

Really? Do you honestly believe that? He has some talent, but he's not in RW's class in any aspect of his game. None.

Doesn't matter...Like it or not Tannehill has this job for at least another year as does Joe Philbin. In my opinion we are a good offensive line and one good linebacker away from being a 12 win team.

Yeah sure, "Bad" O-Line's have 2000 yard rushing seasons like Seattle just had.

How is he not in Wilson's class? Because the talent around him isn't as good?

With either one, Wallace would have his typical 20 TD season and we wouldn't have to resort to circus catches from Hartline. We could actually run our entire playbook as well, since precision passing would be an actual option. Tannehill was easily our worst player of the 2013 year, and that's saying something with Incognito and Martin.

There's only one other qb in our history whose ever thrown more tds in a single season than tannehill has this year.

That's because before Manning it was a glorified HB throwing them the ball (also saw an increase of 200 pass attempts pretty much, which is 30% increase, and that also doesn't account for going from 50% passer to 67%).

RT had a chance to take control of his legacy today and instead left us wondering if we have truely found our long term answer.

He will need to do more next year to prove he IS the QB we all have been hoping for. Until then when he has a bad game ( like today) then questions about him being legit should and will arise.

Mike Wallace had double digit TDs one time, and it was only 10. Yes, Wallace should have had more TDs this year than 5, but Tannehill was hardly the worst player on our team in 2013. One of the dumbest things I have seen posted this year.

This is my point. He is inconsistent. win lose win lose win lose. Great QBs win win win win win and maybe lose one or two the entire season.
