Ryan Tannehill is an average QB not a great one.

Tannehill has some flaws in his game (deep accuracy, footwork and pocket awareness) that should be further along. I think the tea leaves are telling us that we need better and more experienced people at QB coach and offensive line coach as well as a far better OC.

Tannehill has an absolute boatload of untapped potential that this offensive coaching staff cannot seem to harness. I would hate to see him realize his potential on a different team.

Kid should visit Chris Wienke in the off-season. Get his physical tools and mechanics together.

I don't think there's a chance that we cut/trade him at this point, but he's being coached to be a pure pocket passer and the kid's just not suited for it. It's almost identical to when Pennington went down and we inserted Henne into an offense designed for noodle-arm touch passes...it just doesn't work. To be successful, Tannehill should have been moving outside of the pocket much more often, he sees the field better on the move and he's an able runner as well. In the pocket, he still freezes though, and the overall accuracy just isn't there. From slant passes to WR screens, he's consistently off and you can't win playing that type of football. So many of his passes (even when he was considered "hot") were late or off-target.

Part of that goes back to the coaching as well...how many times today did Tannehill throw an incomplete pass on 1st down and we ran Miller right up the middle on 2nd? Miller is a speed back that excels going around the perimeter, yet we're using him more in a fullback role that's going to get the kid killed. In any case though, you can't expect Tannehill (or any QB) to excel when the offense is so one-dimensional and there's accuracy issues to boot...it's a recipe for disaster.

A lot will change next season if we can put together a line, and I hope we are able to keep the same components we have as offensive weapons. I would personally bench Tannehill though because he's clearly not there yet. Leaving him out there to fail will likely end his career next season.

Stupid. Stupid as far as the eyes can see. No offensive line. No running game. Forest Gump coaching staff. A 60 million dollar WR who, if the ball isn't throw perfectly, won't fight for it. Yeah, You're right. Tannehill sucks. He's the only reason this team won 8 games. Did he have some clunkers? Sure. He beat Luck, Brady, Roethlisberger, Ryan and Rivers. He lead 4th quarter comebacks when the fraudulent defense gave up leads. People complain about him not using his legs enough. That's on the coaching staff. If he's being told to stay in the pocket by the staff, how is that his fault? Maybe you guys can't chant for Kyle Orton during training camp. And your love of Matt Moore is misguided. He was awesome against Buffalo huh? Tannehill was sacked, what, 58 times? The fact that he's not gun shy and survived is a testament to him. But yeah, he sucks. It's his fault the Oline is a pile of crap. It's his fault Miller and Thomas can't run. It's his fault there's no pass rush. It's his fault Ellerbe and Wheeler can't tackle and get bulldozed by running backs. I'll give you that his deep ball isn't very accurate. I'll also say that he does put it 50-60 yards IN THE AIR to his WR's. How many QB's do that? So I guess, in the end, our 2nd year QB, who has improved in almost every category sucks. Stupid. Stupid everywhere.

I dont think people understand that Tannehill was our offense this season. He did it with two unproven runningbacks, an OC that chooses to Ask Madden, and the worst offensive line in the history of the NFL. Yet he still had 24 TD's and almost 4000 yards passing and lead the team to an 8-8 record in his second year in the NFL and a game away from the playoffs. How many wins this year can you honestly say were a result of our running game taking over the game? Were there any?

The Dolphins were 26th in rushing offense. Only three teams in the bottom half of the rushing offenses in the league made the playoffs. There were the Saints who have a top 5 elite QB, the Colts who have a very good QB and play in arguably the worst division in the NFL, and the Bengals who have an elite defense along with very good personnel and coordinators. What do the Dolphins have? The worst offensive line in the NFL, a runningback who has a career average of 3.6 ypa, another runningback who is fast but gets lost in the open field, decent weapons at reciever (2 major injuries though), and finally a second year QB who has shown serious promise but still has flaws. Thats not even mentioning Sherman who has absolutely no clue on how to counter opposing teams strengths and play to their weaknesses, or even how to use this young QB properly. I dont see how getting rid of Tannehill or benching him is beneficial to this team or his career at all.

Now Im not saying Tannehill is perfect. He has show a ton of promise but also a few significant flaws. He NEEDS to improve his deepball a ton, along with his pocket awareness and accuracy on the short routes. I think he improved his pocket awareness tremendously throughout the season, and he knows what he needs to work on to improve next year. I just hope we get him the right coaching staff and personnel to assist him with this improvement as much as possible.

The Miami Dolphins were DEAD LAST in the NFL in rushing for first downs. 22% (rounding up) of their first downs this year were from rushing. The average first downs from rushing of all 12 playoff teams were 32%! The lowest being the Saints and Broncos with 24% and 24.5% respectively. Its no wonder the offense struggled to maintain drives when there was absolutely no help from the running game!

Which means he was given plenty of chances to make first downs. (If running backs were given more chances to make first downs we would not be crediting Tannehill with that success or failure.)

I agree Tannehill has improved and it's encouraging overall going forward. But the bolded part is irrelevant if you're not accurate. That's nothing to be proud of if it amounts to incompletions to wide open Mike Wallace.

Tannehill did a decent job in getting these first downs. The Dolphins were 12th in the NFL in first downs from passing (ahead of Luck, Wilson) despite being dead last in first downs by rushing AND dead last in first downs by penalties. Its just too bad that decent isnt good enough when the QB has absolutely no help around him.

Bravo. Entirely correct. If tannehill is the problem then I am not sure what the question originally asked was. He carried us for more than he let us down all season. It's not homerism to be hopeful about the future with him. At the same time everyone acknowledges there are areas for development. But to start with the RT sucks stuff, wow, nonsense. We are looking now at a player with the same amount of time as a 3 or 4 year starter in college. The season ahead should be his rookie year and we are moaning that he didn't bring us a trophy this year? I'm bought in, I believe he can be a very good qb, I believe he can take us places. I believe he needs some flipping.help and support somewhere in this organisation.

Cmon are we really comparing a 2nd year Qb to a first ballot HOF all-time great? Is that even close to fair? If you put a top 3 Qb on any team they are a playoff team, thats a terrible comparison.

1st in passer rating Nick Foles, QB PHI 203 317 64.0 2,891 9.12 63 27 2 28 119.2 24th in passer rating Ryan Tannehill, QB MIA 355 588 60.4 3,913 6.66 67 24 17 58 81.7 245 ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Bottom line that we can all agree on, he has to be better. The empty but gaudy yardage stats like Matt Stafford won't cut it. He has to get better. We can all agree on that. He is the QB but he doesn't improve next year, his stint will be short.

Tannehill didn't show up for the last two games. He has improved over last year, and I'm willing to see if he can improve some more next year. I think he does. He needs to leard to hit that long ball with Wallace. He underthrew him all year except yesterday where he overthrew him. Clean that up, and read the pass rush and he will be even better. I'm disappointed he didn't win at least 1 game in the last two, but hope he's not a big game chocker in the future.

Average is all you can ask for a second year player who played one year of college qb and was suppose to sit for a year or two before he ever saw the field behind one of the worst lines in nfl history.

I love when people just love to say oh hes a second yr qb oh hes a rookie oh hes this oh hes that, whens enough if the sky is blue call it blue, I heard all this same BS about Henne and Pennington and everyone else, the fact that he cannot pick up first downs is the reason the defense is tired and we are 28 in the league in TOP. His inaccuracy on all throws his inability to audible play calls and line shifts for blitz is on him and his coaching staff. If you cannot throw anything but -20 yard passes and still only have a sub 60% completion rating is an under avg qb. He was a bad draft choice for one and for two its his fault he throws it to the wrong team and id say 40% of those sacks where him getting scared going into the fetal position. If you look like a deer in headlights in the pocket and fold when you get a little pass rush you'll never make it in the NFL and he merely proved that this yr. But everyone keep saying hes good he can make it happen etc, and in a couple years when we get another qb and hes backing up or traded then you can start saying the truth. Hes not even average but ill have to sit here and listen to biased fans state wrong!!!

All those rings we got during the Marino era...what would we ever do without 'em?

Don't get me wrong, I love Marino...still to this day I can't believe some of the stuff he pulled off...but you don't need Marino-level talent to win/succeed in the NFL.

I'll take lesser than Marino in a heartbeat if it means a solid, franchise QB that will consistently get us into the playoffs. I still believe he has that in him...and by year 4 it will be painfully obvious to the division, especially the Patsies who will be reeling after Brady retires. He improved vastly over last year...the experts have said it...scouts drool over his upside and progression...it's there to be primed. I believe we just need new O coaches/GM.

I kind of hope that Foles crashes back to earth next year, so I can bump all the threads where people have compared Tannehill to him in order to bash on Tanne. Remember when the Wildcat was unstoppable? And then the teams had all the film on it. Every year there's some QB who comes out of nowhere, lights the league on fire...and then slinks off into mediocrity once the game film is around for awhile.

honestly, most people only know him for the 7td game against oakland. he was good this year, great at times, but the talent around him did a lot of the work. (having shady mccoy must be nice) He'll be an interesting one to watch next year.

Most importantly, Chip Kelly and his staff put Foles in a position to do maximize his talent. Our coaching staff did not achieve that imo.

I pitty the fool who lines up behind this abortion of an offensive line.

Yeah...we'll see how he looks when the league spends an off season studying film of him and the Eagles new offense. Remember how effective the Wildcat was one season. Remember how awesome Kitna looked? Remember Kordel Stewart that one season? Sure, FOLES looked good in a brand new offense. Tannehill has improved, while playing with no run game and no oline help.

Tannehill failed his final. He was worst when we needed him to be at least average. Miller had 90 yards rushing but we couldn't overcome Tannehills inconsistancy and 3 interceptions. If he's able to hold on to the football and not fumble next year, we should make the playoffs against the NFC North and AFC West. I know we're going to Denver and Oakland is in Europe, but SD and KC are coming to Miami

True, and I only hope its frustration setting in when a fan decides to criticize Tannehill for no good apparent reason. Its blatantly obvious he couldn't exceed any more then he did with this swiss cheese O-line. The guy got his *** kicked all year and people cant understand why he didn't light up the scoreboard. I`m not about to give up on the kid yet because it would be unfair to rate him under these circumstances.

If the O-line improves and he gets a better running game and still doesn't excel and take it to the next level then I`ll be the first to admit hes not the answer. I had no problem ripping Henne a new one because he was horrible but I see promise in Tannehill.

Only read the Headline to this post. Great QBs only come around once in a blue moon. I'd settle for Tannehill over the **** we've suffered the last 13yrs.
Jay Fiedler, Damon Huard, Ray Lucas, Brian Griese, AJ Feeley, Sage Rosenfels, Gus Frerotte, Joey Harrington, Daunte Culpepper, Cleo Lemon, Trent Green, John Beck, Chad Henne, Tyler Thigpen,
Tannehill? Best QB ive seen since Pennington. Doesn't say much but with our O-Line i'd say Tannehill could be a future HOFer and we will never know! Message ends.

He trained with weinke the offseason before he came out..

I hold Ryan standards to that of a franchise Qb, when i criticize him, it is in that context, I know he can be pretty good, I get that, the quest for me and what I want for this team is great, can he be great, and all that it means to be so..

I respect how tough he is, I respect like Prez said, how he didn't shy away from standing in the pocket, where it becomes very gray in his evaluation and development is below the waist, it's extremely difficult to know how bad his instincts are in the pocket considering they have been neutered by this offensive coordinator (offensive in the Literal sense) I don't worry about his arm nor his accuracy, I worry about that pocket awareness and knowing when to escape the pocket..see for me, unless your Tom Brady or peyton manning, you better have that sense about you, and at this point he does not, he does not have that sixth sense..

The reason why I'm disappointed is because I thought that that was what I was gonna get in a Qb, a multidimensional threat from the pocket that knew that line and had the escapability talent to make crucial plays, I feel strongly that as the intensity of the games being played increase(playoffs)the ability to move around and make plays becomes of greater importance..

I'm so pissed off at this coordinator for not allowing us to see the real potential of what we have...

Turning this Qb into a strict pocket passer was criminal, if he was able to move the pocket for the kid, left and right, if he was not so adamant about him staying in the pocket at all costs, we might of see a better performance from the Qb when protection broke down...

However, when I take everything away, and I just look for instincts and movement, it's not nearly good enough, it's not nearly on the level of the young qbs like luck, Wilson, and Kaepernick..and those guys once again have led their teams to the playoffs.
