That makes it seem even more shiny. That means other teams are scoring s lot more than us and our defense isnt giving up much at all.
We'll lose those games because we can't score points. Do you guys realize we scored 7 points the last two weeks? 7. I don't care if we had Seattle's defense. We still wouldn't have won them. We scored 30+ once this year. Haven't hit 40 in ages. Our defense is not the reason we went 8-8. Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk
Not when you compare it to most other defenses, and as someone already said, more than a quarter of our games were against teams quarterbacked by Brandon Weeden, Thaddeus Lewis, Geno Smith/Matt Simms and Mike Glennon.
It's more a part of it than most people are willing to acknowledge. I know I'm fighting a losing battle at least based on the perception of this board. But I'll bet dollars to donuts we still see the same issues, if not more, next year. After all, you're looking at having to replace/re-sign both starting defensive tackles, 3 of the 4 guys who started in the secondary to close out the year, and the LBs were atrocious. Factor in the mismanagement of Dion Jordan and Olivier Vernon...and...
We were a top 10 defense... I think 8th in points, 9th in sacks and 11th in picks. Sure it wasn't shutdown but I don't think here is such thing as shutdown defense anymore. Top 10 playing our backup corner all year too which is big. Of course there were games like buffalo where they couldn't stop the run but in the grand perspective wtf was our offense doing? They punted 10 times, idc how bad an offense is, it's such an offensively favored game that if you give them 10 chances and they aren't totally horrible ( like ours) then they are going to put up points.
Nobody said our defense was a bigger problem than our offense, just that the defense is ALSO a problem. I love when we have a dominant defense, love to watch it. We did not have one this year, not even close. Did not enjoy watching this defense play all year. This defense folded in the biggest parts of games...usually right after we scored. It also had trouble getting off the field on 3rd downs. The lack of a run defense this year was critical in the two losses at the end of the year. Now we did improve in getting turnovers, that was nice to see. I thought our red zone defense was much better also. But the lack of physicality and the bend don't break policy does not make us top 10..probably puts in the middle of the league. Again, not a bigger problem than the offense, but a problem none the less.
I prefer dominant defense as well.. I also think defense is affected negatively by poor TOP, lots of three and outs, and an inability to turn turnover into points.. I'm pretty confident without looking that were probably bottom five in all three categories.
Special teams deserves their fair share of scorn after the bumbling we have gone through with punt returns and FGs.....
Agreed, but realistically, you would need to utilize personnel better; that would mean a change at DC and some position coaches.
I'm not sure what exactly the complaint is against Kevin Coyle. His defense was top 10, but...what, exactly? Not to mention the fact that the huge, overwhelming defensive issue was that his linebackers were awful. Not scheme-bad, fundamentally bad. If we had the same linebacker play as we did in 2012 this would have been a contender for best defense. That's absolutely insane that you'd put Kevin Coyle ahead of Mike ****ing Sherman.
Ridiculous. One unit was ranked 8th and one was ranked 26th and your opinion is that the coordinator in charge of the 8th best unit should be fired before the coordinator in charge of the 26th best unit. Pls explain.
Without doubt, in his very first reponsibility as HC, Philbin failed by hiring two awful Coordinators based on cronyism rather than talent. I would simply have my list read: fire everyone, but especially the Parcells drones; then fire the entire coaching staff.
I would absolutely hate to be fired by you man. I know half way thru you would break for lunch, fill the tank with gas, stop by Trader Joes to pick up some libations for later, then come back and sweat me some more then right before you drop the news you ask me why I'm crying.
Surprisingly, the many times I've had to let people go I've been exceedingly decent about it; even when it was someone who had schemed against me or been a dick to others. For Ireland, who has made millions miserable with not just his job performance but by being a complete prick, I'd make an exception. Everything you said, except Friday night I'd order him to be in my office at 6:00 AM Monday.
Coyle's *** isn't on fire? Have you been skipping posts? I've had him in my sights for a year. He's a buffoon. My list of firing targets? 1.) Everyone
Overrated. He had the DL talent to have a top 5 defense...and more importantly...to short circuit every running game we faced. Instead.. We got run on. We allowed less than 20 pts....how many times? Coyle is incompetent. Sherman lacks talent. Both should be gone
