If firing Jeff Ireland meant Dawn Aponte or Brian Gaine are designated as GM, would you do it? Honestly, this would tick me off even more. Because it basically says we're moving forward just with a different name. This would be another boneheaded move by Stephen Ross. If you're planning to male a move, make it all the way.
If Gaine or Aponte is moving forward with a different name, then the same could be said about any GM that comes in really. There is no proof that either Gaine or Aponte have the same views as Ireland on the team, prospective players, how they make evaluations, or how they handle themselves. There is no reason to think it will be the same just because a promotion comes from within.
Managers get promoted from within all the time and instill changes they felt should have been in place under previous management. They don't always have the same opinion and values as previous management, and look to make their own mark, in addition to taking their teams in a direction they believe is best. You don't promote from within because it is more of the same you promote from within because the transition should be smoother and faster due to existing familiarity.
That's the ongoing sentiment from the beat writers. Even those guys seem to be fighting amongst themselves with whom they support....
Agreed. Unfortunately, the act itself is absolutely a continuity of power. The promoted employee is more likely to be aligned to the current power-holder's views and desires than not. That's why they're promoted in the first place. They're part of the regime. No one thinks that Eric DeCosta is GM in waiting in Baltimore because he's going to make radical changes from what Ozzie Newsome does, for instance. Nope. And Aponte reportedly wants to be that first female GM.
Those are entirely different circumstances though and not at all applicable to the discussion at hand.
We don't need radical changes necessarily either. We've been mediocre recently, not putrid. We aren't putting out 3-4 wins seasons for 3+ years in a row.
This is stated as a "rumor," but can you point to any such speculation in print? The reason is that on-air heads are 99.8% assclowns who do not take responsibility for their words 100% of the time. A reporter who commits something to print is held to a slightly higher standard.
Good God if we hire Aponte....pretty sure that would be the final straw. Cant believe Im about to type this but...if we are just gonna hire Aponte, we may as well just keep Ireland. And yes, I just threw up in my mouth a little

I believe she is not thinking about evaluation of personnel and all that it entails, I'm thinking she's thinking a personnel man by her side, a joint partnership..
If by that you mean they'll accept it with the same maturity and open-mindedness that they do anything that happens in Miami then I completely agree
I don't give a **** that a candidate is female or any race or color; only that they can demonstrate a clear talent for finding outstanding personnel. And that he/she not be even remotely associated with Parcells.

Although I think Dawn Aponte is probably one of the best V.P. in the league she is by no means a talent evaluator. Additionally, she has done about as good a s one person can do with the cap. Yes there is. This is a ridiculous post, of course promoting from within means the same old crap, these people all worked directly with and under Ireland. If Ross does this we are doomed.
I fail to see how. The only difference is the titles of DeCosta and Gaine. Not really. What will be interesting is her degree of competency, just like any other person who takes a HC or GM job.

This is spot on. It's entirely possible that Brian Gaine would do some things much differently if he took over for Jeff. In my experience (which is outside of football), promotion from within is often as much of a change in philosophy as promotion from without.
Why are we promoting from within a failed regime? Steve Ross is an idiot. I don't care that he's a billionaire, stupid people can make money. This is exactly what I expected (and dreaded) to happen. Ross LOVES Joe Philbin, you can hear it everytime he talks about the man. Ross is not going to bring in an outside candidate and endanger losing Philbin to the rightful purge that would ensue. We are not going to compete for a damn ****iong thing unless Ross: A: Sells the team B: Does what needs to be done, which is extinguish the Parcells stench from this franchise. It needs a clean sweep, not a "tweak".
So you really think anyone under Ireland is going to make big changes? And if they are working for Ireland then they are more than likely mentored by him and I doubt a paranoid idiot like Ireland from the Parcels tree would actually have a bunch of people underneath him with big differences of opinion. Sure but I don't see this being the case in Miami. If we keep the status quo its to keep Philbin around and keep him comfortable. This isn't making big changes. Hey if they went with one or both of these two and they fired Philbin and made wholesale changes I'll eat crow but they aren't going to do that. Honestly if they get rid of Ireland and just promote the people under him then the firing of Ireland is merely a PR move with no real teeth and Ross is an idiot.
What I wrote there is what I believe to be the truth, from decades in the business world, over 30 of those years as a manager.
Aponte would need an amazing talent evaluator for me to accept her as GM. She is great as far as contracts and the cap go (as evidence by our pretty good cap situations currently). The problem has never really been cap management, its been talent eval.
We need a General Manager, someone who, like you said is a talent evaluator. She's a mathematician, they don't draft well.
Belichick has not been very good at acquiring talent. I live up in New England and the complaints about him are that he is a great coach but mediocre GM.
People like to make him out to be the best drafter in the game, but the fact of the matter is they just have a lot of picks every year some how. Not saying that isn't the way to go, but to say he is an incredible drafter isn't actually looking at every draft pick.
