So, I might have a skewed perception of the core Xbox One development team. I used to think that it was just senior management that was blind; turns out the engineers are too. Holy bleep.
Soooooo, about this. The Verge: Microsoft teases Windows 8 apps on Xbox One But hey, I clearly don't know anything.
Don Mattrick is leaving Microsoft to spend more time with his family. No, wait, to go work for Zynga. Zynga TV coming soon?
It doesn't make much of a difference. It might help maintain a baseline FPS rate in some busy scenes, but console games are already designed with constant frame rates in mind. Anyway, here's something called Home Gold: A Microsoft account is as close as we've come to a single sign-in for the Internet.
Microsoft also announced another MHz speed bump for the CPU. It's nice to have but it doesn't make too much of a difference, IMO. Both consoles have relatively underpowered CPUs.
Between who is buying what after the first pre-orders are gone.... I am actually pretty interested in this...I know plenty of guy who have both systems right now and want both of these too.... I can't do both, too many things to memorize!!!
So if I didnt pre order this, do you guys know what the best way is to try and purchase one asap or is that not gonna happen?
I saw some people posting elsewhere that some Walmart's still had pre-orders, so maybe try there? Beyond that, you may be SOL.
Reconfirmation of an earlier comment I made: Xbone can run Windows 8.1 apps. And presumably vice-versa.
Can try ordering online at launch. I ordered a 360 from kmart online the day it was released (not a ridiculous bundle, just the console).
Cannot even begin to explain how lazy and broken the concept is. Games used to be unpatchable, so you had to put out a quality product. Consoles, too, had to work out of the box and were static for years since there was no way to update them remotely. Now? Everyone has the Internet, so now everyone thinks "oh, we can just send it off now and have an update ready when they fire it up." Between this behavior and the prevalence of discount sales these days, it's looking like the best way to play games is to wait 3-4 months after release, get it for 20%, and download the omnibus patch.
So I got the One, and it's pretty slick. I only have Forza as far as retail games go, but all in all so far I'd say the whole system is actually a lot more intuitive than I anticipated. The Kinect recognition to sign you in is actually quite neat, and the whole thing seems so much better than what was with the 360. Anyways, that is not to say there aren't some faults (mostly long load/install times, and day one updates). I seem to also have been unlucky and gotten a pretty noisy unit. Like so noisy it is distracting at all times. I'm not sure if my best course of action is return to amazon, consult with MS, or just try and live with it. This is a somewhat similar to what mine sounds like, though not quite as bad as how this person's gets at the end of the video. I'm thinking it is coming from an internal fan in my case because the sound is present as soon as the system boots up, and only gets worse as I do more activities (like navigating the dash), and it sounds the worst when playing a game.
I picked one up today and I'm liking it ao far. Mine is quiet as can be. I was unimpressed with how long it took to install games though. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
The PS3 gets pretty loud but it doesn't sound anything like that. It sounds like the fan is hitting something.
Yes, I believe that is my problem. I spoke with support who said to send it in for warranty repair/replacement.
From my understanding, the reason it takes so long is because it does the initial update with it. But yes, that **** took forever!
the day one update only took about 10 minutes for me, but to install COD Ghosts literally took about 30 minutes. Now it did have to download a 112MB update before it could install, but still, thats a tad ridiculous.
If a game is stable at launch I see no reason to not buy it then and there. No reason to defer enjoyment for 4 months to save a few measly bucks, IMO. I'd kick myself if I had waited until the Steam spring sale for AC4.
I agree with that line of thinking and I know you've given me "hell" about this in the past. Saving a few bucks is not the biggest reason I delay on getting games though. I'm usually so far behind and have so many games to play. And now that I have 2 kids I just can't get caught up. I can't wait to play AC4 but I'm still working on GTAV and not to mention AC3. I have a PS4 which I haven't decided on whether to keep or sell sitting unopened right now. Basically my video game life is struggling hard, and getting games cheap months after the release date is just the silver lining. To get back on topic, holy hell is the xbox in that video noisy. Definitely an internal fan hitting something. My 6 year old macbook has the same issue from years of me pounding on it. If it's a widespread issue these things must be pretty poorly put together. I'll own both consoles eventually but the Xbox One is something I'll wait on for a year or so.
Mine doesn't do that. I think it's a numbers thing. They're shipping SO many systems that they're bound to have a few duds. Pete just got unlucky with his.
Yup, just unlucky. MS said it's a known issue though, and would be covered by warranty replacement. Just waiting on my housing situation to get sorted out so I can send it in.
I finally caved once it became available at my local best buy. So far so good, man battliefield really takes a huge step compared to the 360. I really like how quickly the system starts up and how easy it is to switch between tasks. My only faults are that it should come with a second controller instead of having to shell out another 70 bucks and the headset should be wireless. Besides that I'm impressed, Have to figure out what other game to get, thinking FIFA.
FIFA is much better on the One than the 360. More animations = better player movements and IMO easier to control. Madden 25 is a disappointment though, looks outstanding but just doesnt play that well. Or maybe I am just terrible at it
