Sherman won't be let go without Philbin, you seriously think Ross is going to tell Philbin he must fire Sherman? They're a package deal.

How exactly is a head coach and an offensive coordinator a package deal? I understand they have a close relationship, but that doesn't mean they're tied together. What if Sherman wants to retire? Philbin has to resign then?

At this point, would you really be surprised if they gave him an extension instead?

I'm not sure you can hammer Sherman for the lack of offensive productivity/playcalling when you have a HC with an extensive offensive background like Philbin. Joe heard every single one of those playcalls as they were being communicated to Tannehill. IMO, Philbin deserves to be on the same hook as Sherman for the dreadful offensive numbers this season.

They already gave him an extension to avoid lame duck status. Besides, we all know an extension means nothing anyway in these situations. Stop being so damn cynical

Mike Sherman and Joe Philbin have good enough of a relationship that Mike will probably walk away before he allows himself to cost Joe his job.

I still think it is a possibility that Jim Turner ends up getting an offer from a college team to coach their OL, and Mike gets reassigned to coach the OL and be the assistant head coach. Then, a guy Mike is familiar with in Kyle Shanahan gets brought in as offensive coordinator.

Thats the thing, nobody really knows what the hell is going to come out of that office today or tomorrow, or whenever the decisions are made......

With the other teams that fired their coach, the fans and media knew the axe was coming, I in no way shape or form can say the same about what Ross is thinking, which really is the scariest thing.....

I really wish Ross did his firing first , then met with his staff to discuss the best available replacements rather than let this uncertainty drag on. Other teams are hiring new coaches already and we still have no clue who is staying or going. Par for the course around here.

Not sure that really matters. What is Philbin going to do? Tell Sherman to pick a different play with 20 seconds on the play clock? It's understandable why Philbin hired Sherman. They are close and Sherman worked with Tannehill in college.

In the end though Philbin needs to understand its time to go in a different direction.

To be fair to Sherman though, he was handcuffed due to a terrible offensive line and run game. I feel there was a lot they wanted to do but couldn't due to the line play.

Correct the situation? Either by assistance or assuming the play calling duties altogether. Philbin is the HC, it is his job to alleviate and correct these things.

27th in total yards. 25th in rushing. 20th in passing. Everyone associated with the offense, from roster construction to scheme, game planning and play calling should be ****canned for those numbers.

Reports I am hearing is that Ross told Sherman to "go." So either he is fired or it is a run play.

Are you seriously not trying to understand how they're not a package deal? If Ross goes to Philbin and says you must let go of Sherman, Philbin is not going to do it, that's when he gets fired. Obviously if Sherman were to retire on his own Philbin would have no problem moving on, but he's not going to fire the guy, Philbin wants him back in 2014.

And again, I believe in Philbin but that doesn't mean he doesn't need to improve himself. I know he does.

How do you know Philbin won't let Sherman go? Are you Joe Philbin? That's quite a leap to make.
Joe is a good man but he's not dumb. And if he won't fire Sherman then maybe he will be fired.

I understand it is just one of those things but I did find it funny Heartline tweeted to Tanny Clay and Wallace Happy new year on the same day Ross may make a decision. Hope it does become a happy new year for us fans and some dominos start to fall.

Coach implemented the same concepts down here that he'd practiced for a decade in GB. It was the whole idea behind giving him the gig. Would we really force a new offense on him, and expect better results ? Im really starting to fear these two ( he & Sherman ) really are somewhat tied together.

Serious? Don't get my hopes up. I could live with another year of Ireland even though I think I'd prefer him gone, but I can't live with Sherman.

I doubt very much there'll be any changes of significance. It's not the right time to make sweeping changes, and the changes that could be made today aren't going to make a significant enough difference to matter anyway.

I don't mind Philbin but how often would firing the GM and keeping the coach work? Unless the new GM really really likes him you don't make it where you'll only hire a GM who wants Philbin.

Ireland should've been gone with Sparano...we saw how keeping the GM but firing the coach has worked. (and we've seen it fail before in Miami) Now is he going to do the reverse?

I have more of a problem with Coyle than Sherman. Although I think both have to go, frankly I fire everyone. Anyway Coyle had established D to play with while Sherman had horrible line and completely revamped offense to jell together

And if it's not? If Philbin can't see for himself that his staff needs to be changed, then I think he needs to go no doubt.

If its even remotely true that Ross wants Philbin to fire Sherman and he said no, then Philbin must go also. Its his responsibility to do whats best for the team and put personal relationships aside.
