wtf is ross waiting for? Marino would give an instant jolt of credibility this team hasn't had in over a decade.

At the very least he should be in some consulting/advisory role.

Personally, Give me Marino as president of football operations, and jason taylor as GM. (ok, both might be much, one and i will be happy).

Getting Marino in (in any capacity) and Ireland the **** out would do so much to bring credibility to this organization and how it is perceived.

I could give a rats *** how we are perceived. The most important thing is to win.
I'm not sure how bringing in Marino immediately helps that happen.

    Deal him in.

Buy-in is a nut sack plus ability to handle sycophantic GM, ball-buster exec, flatlined Head Coach and assisted-living Owner.

(seriously though, Dan's competitive fire is just something I want around that facility… and maybe he can see Ryan a little more often too.)

Firing Sherman is going to help us immediately. Short of getting brady, manning, or brees, firing sherman would be the next best thing for the team.

Marino helps us long term. I think agents, players, draft prospects would be more inclined to work with marino than ireland. Ireland has a pretty negative reputation, especially in the public eye.

If Marino wants to be to the Dolphins what John Elway is to the Broncos, I'm all for it. I'd trust him to bring on a General Manager (Heckert?) and go from there. At any rate, it'd be good to see him get the ring he deserves, even if he's not physically out there firing lasers.

Yeah I don't need a lesson on the situation. I want Sherman gone too. Perception isn't rally important to me. You can win either way.
I don't really care if Ireland stays or not at this point. The next guy will be toast with the fanbase before he ever makes a pick. Same with a new HC.
That's what gives me a sick feeling

I don't know that Marino is qualified to do the job, or what role he'd be brought in with, but I'd be willing to take a chance on him if it means we're getting changes at key decision-making positions.

It took Elway a little over a year to get trained in the technical aspects of the job before he was comfortable enough to release the GM, Brian Xanders (did not need him any more). The key here is to get better decision making.

Honestly, if John Elway hadn't succeeded as an exec I'd be fully against Marino coming in.

Question is, does Marino have the executive managerial sense Elway does? Elway is a very successful business owner in his won right. Franchises. And didn't he also have part ownership in an arena league team? In short, he had applicable management experience in ADDITION to having played football.

Does Marino bring that to the table?

Marino brings better decision making to the table than Ireland. I am not sure he is better than Elway, after all, Elway was a 2-tims SB champ, so there is that. But, bottom line is, Ireland brings zilch to the table--he's a feckin secretary.

    What we know.

Darlington is letting it be known that Marino is interested and hasn't been reached out to .

Previously Dan decided not to pursue this . Probably because of several reasons , one being that it would take a lot of work . Maybe he also felt it was a glorified position.

So , where are we now then?

While he may not be as qualified as Elway ( the closest situation to compare this to ) any position doesn't need to fit the same exact way as another situation . Recently Pat Lafontaine took a similar role for the Buff Sabres who have reached bottom. He will oversee the hiring of a new GM and coach . From there we'll see what role Lafontaine takes and how involved he will be. Certainly this could be similar for Marino IF both parties were open to that. Times change and it certainly could be that right now Dan is ready for this and committed , to do whatever role may present it self seriously.

Darlington didn't kind of let things out , he bold faced the headline imo.

Aren't Marino's kids all at least high school age now?

Maybe he just doesn't want or need to be around the house so much

Like I mentioned , times change , maybe he is ready and really wants to be involved. Not saying that if that is true he should get what he wants , but he should get serious serious consideration imo.

Doesn't it make sense that a hall of Fame quarterback is going to know a little more about what's going on on the football side than a college kicker?

I loved him as a player for the Dolphins, but I don't see him being effective if he is hired to assist in player personnel decisions. Perhaps a role in public relations would suit him, but when it comes to helping run football operations, no thanks.

I think he is sensing his time on CBS coming is coming to an end and he is looking for a job with the Dolphins, in an attempt to stay relevant in the NFL today.

Where have I been wrong? I haven't been wrong in identfying Ireland's failures as a GM. He spent almost $100 million in free agency this offseason with only one player living up to his contract (and that player was signed to just a 1 year deal and we will likely lose him this offseason).

We have the most incompetent GM in football.

You said he was gone after this season, even if we made the playoffs. We went 8-8 and he still didn't get fired.
