    Ireland Philbin remain

    http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/

Well, seven hours after he arrived at Dolphins camp in his helicopter on what was expected to be an axe-wielding mission, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross fired up his flying machine and left.

The helicopter was apparently the only thing Ross fired (up).

At this point all we can hope is that Philbin told Ross how unhappy he is working with Jeff Ireland and that Ross will do the right thing with this information. And that is to get rid of this *** hat once and for all.

Doubtful Ross makes a move until the Wells report is completed and published. No coach worth a paycheck for will for a erratic owner, unless your Daniel Snyder (and his $$$)

So Ross refuses to fire Philbin even though philbin refuses to fire coaches who are inept.

    So dysfunctional.

That report doesn't come out until at least after the SuperBowl. If he's going to wait until then, might as well just announce they'll be keeping everyone.

    Why would you say that?

All of a sudden now this has evolved to Ireland and Ross dislike each other. How convenient.

While this certainly isn't what I want to happen. I have written several times on this forum that it is what I expect to happen. When you have an NFL owner who is as inept as Ross, you get used to incompetence at the ownership level.

I predicted earlier today that Ireland and Philbin would remain and that the Dolphins will have a losing season next year. Only after going 5-11 or possibly 6-10 and finishing in last place in the AFC East next season will Ross finally decide to do what he should have done after this season.

Ross is the major problem with this organization and it will never be a successful franchise as long as he remains the owner. I am more thankful than ever that I will be moving out of South Florida in a few weeks and relocating to Hawaii. After over 40 years as a season ticket holder, I will now spend the $6000 plus I have spent yearly on 4 season tickets on other pursuits. I'll still watch the Dolphins on TV in Hawaii, but I won't
continue to waste my money on an owner I think is totally clueless in regards to how to build a successful NFL football team.

I feel sorry for those fans who will be spending their money going to games while Ross remains the owner of this team. The future just doesn't look bright at this time.

If this is the case, No coaching/GM changes have occured so close to Draft day. It will be Late Jan, early Feb before the report is available. Bet money conclusion is Ireland had no knowledge of "Code Red"

    Check this out

And the production in both 2012 and 2013 was a step back from 2011 under a different coaching staff. Indeed, the Dolphins were 20th in the NFL averaging 20.6 points per game in 2011 and that was considered poor and helped lead to a change in coaches.

So basically, the new offensive staff the past two years has gotten less production than the previous offensive staff.

The lack of production for the Dolphins rests with players, of course, but also with offensive coordinator Mike Sherman, offensive line coach Jim Turner and others. That's the reason Ross is pushing for staff changes.

But Philbin can stand in the way of change because while Ross is the owner, Philbin's contract grants him the authority on hiring and firing assistants.

And on Monday during his season-ending press conference, Philbin defended his assistants, starting with Sherman, despite the obvious case against them.

“I have a lot of confidence in our staff, our offensive staff with Mike Sherman," the coach said. "He’s an excellent football coach, and that’s what I think."

    And the offense?

“Well again, the game is not played on a stat sheet," he said. "My feeling is Week 17 we had a game had we won, which we didn’t win, we would have been in the playoffs. That’s where I’m getting the barometer that we are not that far away. We are close. I acknowledge the fact that on that paper there is a lot of room for improvement, a lot of room for improvement."

Philbin became very uncomfortable and even combative about the idea of possibly firing assistants beginning with Sherman. He was asked if he was capable of such of move if that was required of him ...

I am sure every Jets, Bills, and Patriots fan are as excited by this news as you are. They now know that they don't have to worry about the Dolphins being a threat in the division anytime soon. Bills and Patriot fans already know their teams have superior talent and the Jets fans saw that their defense is already superior to the Dolphins and once they get better receivers and an average QB like the Dolphins, they will be much better than the Dolphins. Ireland will make sure of that.

All it takes to predict Ross' actions is to think "what's the stupidest thing he could do?" and then go with that.

    A lot has happened.

Ross has met with Ireland and Philbin. Most likely, if he hasn't yet he will meet with Sherman and Coyle.

Philbin is standing by Sherman and his staff. It is in his contract that he hires his staff.

Cooler heads have prevailed. Ross is not going to hastily set back this franchise. Because that is what would happen if he **** cans everyone.

There will be a sacrificial lamb. I believe it will be Sherman. ? is, does Philbin stand up or does he cave to save his job. I think Philbin caves.

The next OC will be the next coach of the Miami Dolphins if this team fails next year to get into the play offs. Make no mistake, anything short of a playoff berth and Ross will go crazy.

I believe the next OC is going to be Kubiak. JMO

I don't think so. My wife and I are moving to Maui. The pro bowl game is played in Oahu and I don't really have any interest in flying over to Oahu to watch a game the players don't even have any real interest in playing.

I imagine I will fly over to Oahu to watch a couple of college games every year. The University of Hawaii doesn't have a good team right now, but I love college football and some very good teams do travel to Hawaii to play games from time to time.

I love Hawaii and I can't wait to move there. I imagine that once I move out of South Florida and I get away from all this Dolphin turmoil, I probably won't care nearly as much as I have since the team started in 1966. Right now, living less than 30 miles from the stadium and listening to Dolphin talk on the radio and reading Dolphin articles in the local papers, I am constantly reminded of how bad the past decade has been. I have attended well over 300 home games and over 30 away games over the past 47 years and the past five years has been the most depressing period I've experienced as a Dolphin fan during all those 47 years.

Perhaps moving away and not attending games anymore will give me a different perspective. How the Dolphins play and who the HC and GM are, as well as who the owner is won't be as important to me when I am living over 5000 miles from the stadium. I will always be a Dolphin fan and I hope things change for the better in the near future. I'll just be a fan from a distance in the future and not from my seats on the 40 yard line in Sun Life Stadium.

Another reason why Ireland and Philbin most likely will be retained. It's little things. Add them together and you know the outcome. Just like the little bit of information leaked. Weather it was true or not it was leaked to see what the fan response would be.

Respect your thoughts and I went to Maui for 2 weeks. Beautiful place. You are a lucky man. The weather there is absolutely perfect. 85 everyday with a light breeze. Nah. You bleed aqua, like me. You'll never give up on this team. You might not follow out of principal next year, but deep down inside you'll peek at the score or come on this site. Hope to stay the course I know I am not alone when I say you are a positive contributor to this board and respected by many!!:ffic:

I would be extremely shocked to see Kubiak or any other high quality OC take the job with the Dolphins at this time. The next OC, if Sherman is fired, will come here knowing that Philbin is in a win or else period with the Dolphins. This would be mean that the next OC has to come in and get the entire offense on the same page in one year or he will be looking for a new job after Philbin is fired next year.

The last time the Dolphins hired a OC to come in for a OC who was basically fired the previous year, Daboll replaced Henning. Daboll was no upgrade from Henning, but with Sparano on the hot seat in Miami at the time, I have to assume no big name OC was interested in the job.

There are several openings for OC around the league. I would suspect that any top tier OC would prefer to take a job with a team where the head coach was either recently hired or where an opening might occur with a team where the prior OC might have been hired to be a head coach for another NFL team.

I think becoming the OC of a team where the GM and head coach are in a must win situation would probably not be the best job to take if you are looking for a place to go and implement your offensive scheme over the next two or three years. I suspect if Sherman is fired or is gracefully asked to leave. The next OC will probably be someone the caliber of Daboll and not one of the better OC's available at this time.

It's amazing you can type that with a straight face given what has been accomplished by new coaching staffs in Philadelphia, Kansas City, Seattle, San Francisco and Indianapolis in the last few years. New coaches came in and took their teams to the playoffs immediately. All that RETAINING this group of clueless, heartless and brainless losers will accomplish is to set us back another year until our record regresses enough for the owner to have no choice but to fire them.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I am sure I will be up at 7:00 am next year to watch the Dolphin games. I will always be a Dolphin fan, win or lose. I was just expressing the feeling that moving to Hawaii and getting away from South Florida will probably give me a different perspective on the Dolphins. I know from all the time my wife and I have previously spent in Maui. I just don't get stressed out by things like I do here in South Florida.

Right now I am just totally frustrated with the Dolphin organization and this forum is the one place I can take out those frustrations. I can't fire Ireland, Philbin or any of the coaches. I can't force Ross to sell the team. So like many, I come on here and express my displeasure and sometimes I feel better when I sign off and some times I don't.

I respect the opinions of every single person on this forum, even though I often disagree with many of the people on here. That's what forums like this are for and that is why we enjoy the right to free speech. In the past I have said things to certain individuals on here which I later regretted. I never intend to degrade anyone, but sometimes I have gone overboard in my responses. So to anyone I may have offended in the past, please accept my sincere apology.

I will not have a lot of time to be on the forum in the next several weeks because we will be preparing our home here in South Florida for the new owners. We leave to fly to Seattle in two weeks, where my daughter, son-in-law and grandsons will be moving next week. We will be moving into our home in Maui by the middle of February. So hopefully all these issued with the Dolphins will be settled in the near future and I can get back on this forum and find out the latest Dolphin updates once we are living in Maui.

    For now though, Aloha.
