As opposed to the whine and complain in perpetuity plan?

This is why you're a blowhard Jeff. You take any criticism of Jeff (you) and make it about the poster. You can literally only insult people. Clearly you're just afraid of Marino firing you.

what people seem to forget is that Marino was given a job where he would not have Authority to do what is needed . now I think Dan might be ready for the job .

I agree that his qualifications arent there on the surface. But, he does evaluate players, schemes and coaches for a living. He also was pretty good at being a leader. How this relates in the real world, who knows, but it would be nice to have him onboard in some way.

Dan Marino is a majority owner in Anthony's Coal Fire Pizza and Wings restaurant chain.

Its really good and very successfully around my area.

He's had his hand in many business ventures. Some successful(Anthony's) and some not

And he watches football for a living. Should he be GM? Probably not. But a VP position would be ideal. And like schmoiliot said his children are all now in their 20s. In 2004 they were almost all in their teens and younger.

The obligations on that front are much much less.

Those saying he's completely unqualified are wrong IMO

That's true. But I think it's pretty telling, if not outright damning, that the best player in your organization's history wants to come in to throw you a life preserver.

When your team hasn't had a winning record in the past five years and the owner is as incompetent as this one is. It leaves the average fan nothing to do but whine and complain about how ineffective the people running this organization are.

Perhaps if the team was winning and going to the playoffs, no one would have a reason to whine and complain about the team.

One thing I have noticed since the season ended for the Dolphins is that now the vast majority of the fans are on the , "get rid of Ireland" bandwagon. Prior to this season, the majority of the fans on here were saying that we needed to see how the season played out before judging Ireland. I would say that the majority have now judged him and they want him fired. That view of Ireland has also been the majority reaction on the sports radio talk shows here in South Florida.

Ross may not care one bit what fans want, but if he keeps Ireland as the GM, and the majority of the coaching staff. I suspect more fans will continue to show there displeasure with Ross next year by not renewing their season tickets. Looking at the number of empty seats in Sun Life Stadium during most home games had been bad enough over the past few years. Keeping Ireland as the GM will only increase the number of fans staying home and not going to games next season. If he wants a half empty stadium next year, Ross can assure that by keeping Ireland as the GM of the Dolphins.

Marino has a very "type A" personality. Guys like that tend to work very very hard. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being a great GM down the road.

Yes please. I don't care in what capacity, just get Marino back in the building. Instant credibility and a Dolphins icon will do nothing but help.

Bottom line is that Marino KNOWS football. He also knows talent and has the passion to win what he did not on the field. No he may not have the qualifications some of you think are needed in a great President/CEO etc but there are countless people who rose to greatness in a job who did not have the qualifications but had the "it" factor - this is Marino to a tee! Come on Dan - we need and WANT YOU!!

Kinda like Joe Philbin who had 0 HC experience, or Tony Sporano, or the beloved GM.

Honestly though... I don't like Philbin much but becareful what you ask for.... We all know Ross wanted to hire a guy with experience and credibility the last time he was on a coaching search and Fisher turned him down.... If Ross were to fire Philbin, pretty sure Shanahan would be on top of the list just because of "experience" and that's a guy I DO NOT want here...

This is effing stupid. Philbin & Sparano had at least coached before getting their jobs here and Ireland had at least been a scout. Marino has done nothing other than QB and when he did that he didn't even study film or the other team.

He has NO experience in any capacity for being in charge and he never displayed an aptitude for the politics, X & O's savvy, player evaluation or even a willingness to do any of that in the past.

A great QB does not automatically equal some to run a franchise.

Agreed... and the whole stupid "ball boy" comments make about as much sense as it would to call Danny a drunken golfer who can't keep his pants zipped.

Bottom line is that if Ireland hadn't whiffed the past 2 seasons on Martin, Ellerbe, Wheeler, Watkins, Dallas Thomas, Kaddu, Cunningham, and screwed up by bringing back Cogs, that the OLine wouldn't have been historically bad and Tannehill wouldn't have taken the beating he did. Last season, Tannehill had no receiving corp. This season he had poor protection. We can blame the coaches for several losses this season, but the talent wasn't there. If it was, this same staff wins at least 2 more games and control our own fate.

Ireland needs to go. Every year it's problems with the OLine, LBs, receivers, and DBs. Enough already.

Bringing in Danny would be a morale booster to the general public, but he has zero front office office experience or actual management experience at any level or in any business. Investing his name and image to businesses managed by others doesn't qualify him and additionally he has never been known for being patient or studious. If he were serious about this, and it actually happened, it would take a year or two before he was up to speed on the business side of a team. Casting opinions on an NFL show has nothing to do with being involved in team management. We all loved him as a player, but that doesn't make him an instant GM.

GM is the proverbial whipping post, the idea of Dan in that role...?

As the only golden legend we've had over the last 40 some years, surely we can find a capable GM, without having to send dan down that slippery, thankless slope, unqualified as he may be, and potentially tarnish the memory of what he achieved here?
I believe the word is "Overqualified"

..and forget any idea on the subservient role of QB's coach. This, while Elway reigns as Lord of Football Operations?
Mr. "Pick a guy and let it fly?" ?? The word again is simply "Overqualified".

Elway's return represents a well considered move. A thoughtful approach by the Bronco's, to appropriately showcase his prized iconic stature, in a manner that is dignified to both him, and the organization.
One that places him in a position to make a significant contribution, yet maintain some measure of insulation just in case.
As Elway is once again contributing to the team effort, the degree to which the public percieves, deems his accountability for the outcome.
