Can't help but think as I watch this game Kansas City vrs Indianapolis

Alex Smith -- could have been a Dolphin, never offered him enough money

Anthony Fasano -- Jettisoned in favor of Dustin Keller, Dustin who?

Sean Smith -- always watching that cap

What makes things even worse is that T.Y. Hilton played right here in Miami at FIU. He was the best player on the FIU roster in his junior and senior seasons. The Dolphins were in desperate need of WR's going into the 2012 NFL draft, yet Ireland selected Jonathan Martin in the second round and passed on Hilton who was still on the board.

It is no wonder the Colts will probably be a SB contender for years to come and the Dolphins remain mediocre. It is all about drafting talented players and Ireland has proved to be very average or worse when it comes to the college draft. Missing a player like Hilton when he plays in your backyard and it was a big area of need in the 2012 draft is unforgivable.

I don't understand this obsession with getting local players. Maybe it's just because I'm not from Miami, so it's not an emotional thing for me. Regardless of whether they play in Miami, Gainesville, or Corvallis they're going to get scouted if they're a top 100 player. They'll see that player at the Shrine Game/Senior bowl, the combine, in person visits, pro days and write the same type of scouting reports about players in Miami that they will about someone from UConn. It's not that TY Hilton isn't a good player and it makes sense to wish he had been drafted by the Dolphins - but somehow this lust for local players seems misplaced. I'd rather my GM (Ireland or not) draft the best player available irrespective of if they came from Miami or not.

I am not obsessed with the Dolphins drafting players from Miami. In fact I thought the drafting of Miller and Vernon , who both played at the University of Miami, were questionable picks at the time. Vernon has proved to be a fairly good pass rusher, but weak against the run. Miller still remains the huge question mark I thought he would be coming out of the draft. I also wouldn't want to see the Dolphins draft any players from the UM or FIU in this coming draft because I don't think there are any quality players on either team who will be in this years draft.

I was saying back before the 2012 draft that the Dolphins should pick Hilton in the 2nd round if he was still on the board. They had a big need for a deep threat and Hilton had shown in college that he was an excellent football player. He was the type of impact player the Dolphins needed on their offense. I agree that I want our GM to draft the best player available. Unfortunately Ireland drafted Martin, who was a bust and Hilton has already shown that he is one of the best and most exciting WR's in the NFL. Ireland has missed far too often in the draft the past six years and that is why the Dolphins are a sub 500 team over that period of time.

I don't care where a player played his college ball. When you have one of the best college players at a position of need for your team and he plays in your backyard. You have to draft him and Ireland once again failed to recognize an impact player. This has been Ireland's failure since he arrived in Miami over six years ago. He's great at drafting mediocre players, but terrible when it comes to drafting players who can come in and make a huge impact on the roster.

The obsession I was referring to is a general feeling from these boards and the media that the Dolphins have to "go to their backyard" and draft local players. You may have liked TY Hilton a lot, but the post I responded to said it was "worse that he played right here in Miami". The point I was making is that it doesn't matter if they played in Miami - so why even bring it up?

I agree that it doesn't matter if he played in Miami or not. It just makes it that must harder to accept that Ireland once again missed on an impact player who was a player which had a lot of college hype in the area Ireland and the other scouts work and live in. I know that I personally have only expressed interest in the Dolphins drafting Hilton and Jimmy Graham from this area on this forum since I first logged onto this site in 2010.

Since 2010, UM and FIU really haven't had many quality players who I thought would be good NFL players. I attend UM games, so I thought the Dolphins might draft Jimmy Graham in the 2010 draft. Parcells had even stated before the draft that the Dolphins had an interest in him in the middle rounds of that draft. Unfortunately the Saints drafted him before the Dolphins were willing to use a pick on him. Graham was a former UM basketball player who only had one year of college experience. So I understand why many teams, including the Dolphins were unwilling to draft him earlier than the Saints did.

I just was really high on Hilton and it still bothers me that he was ignored by Ireland and will probably have several great years playing with the Colts and Andrew Luck. Perhaps if Ireland had done a better job selecting talented players from other parts of the country over the past six years, missing out on Hilton wouldn't be so bad. But when you have a GM who is as bad as Ireland is in the draft, missing out on Hilton only compounds the misery of having such an inept GM selecting players for your team.

What this game did show me was how I'd like our offense to be run.

Andy Reid is a helluva offensive mind. I'm so envious of the Chiefs offensive system

What makes you think Keller will be a Dolphin next year? He is a free agent and can sign with any team he wants to. I hope he is healthy and does sign with the Dolphins again, but we really don't know what his interest is in returning or if the Dolphins have any interest in him going into next season. I'll be excited if the Dolphins draft a top TE prospect or sign a top free agent TE. I don't have a lot of faith that Egnew or Sims are the impact type TE this team really needs.

If all things are equal, the team should go local. Why? Because the players that grew up in the climate the Dolphins have to play in will be more adapted to said climate. I also think local players will have a sense of pride to play for the hometown team. These are players that likely grew up rooting for the Dolphins. The Dolphins should have a distinct advantage over every other team when it comes to scouting the local talent. Plus, South Florida produces more talent than any other area in the country per population.

Oh come on now, its funny. Laugh a little  We all are. I even made a point to tell my wife (who is a teacher) about it, she just shook her head. Ya gotta be able to laugh at yourself once in a while  I think everyones intent here is just to point it out for a laugh, **** happens, we all make mistakes.

I hate the Buckeyes... but I gotta say, Braxton Miller impressed me a bit last night, that kid took a beating, was clearly hurting, and just kept on going. He took some bigtime shots last night. Those picks really cost him though. Good game too.

you have every right to miss Fasano because I was a big Chris Chambers and Randy McMichael fan and I like Fasano as well but Miami is the worst team when it comes to keeping good players see Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush .

The sad part is he is terrible at time management and always has been. 3 timeouts in 5 minutes and he had none left when needed most. That loss is on him regardless of the injuries. And if he was the coach here, this board would have lit up as the time ran out and he had that grin that he always gets on his face.
