On any given Sunday, one team can beat another. Upsets happen all the time. But were Miami's wins over 4 playoff teams a fluke? I don't think so. You can't call 4 wins a fluke. So what do you attribute it to? Was it superior coaching and games plans that allowed a lesser talented team to beat a more talented one? Did each of the opponents have bad days? Or is Miami just as talented as those teams? Which is it?

On the other side, why did Miami lose to Tampa, Buffalo and NY? Was it lack of talent? Was it superior coaching by the other team? Was it just one of those "on any given Sunday" things?

Think about what contributed the most to those wins and to those losses. That should give you an idea of where the problems are. I haven't watched enough of Miami's games to have an informed opinion. What do you guys think?

See, to me, this has been so obvious for so long that this is like the 12th confirmation of it… Yet we may as well cue the dozen posters who will read this thread and say it's totally silly to believe there is tension based on this report unless they themselves personally witness Philbin and Ireland stabbing one another with pens as they yell "I hate you because of this tension between us!!!"

Everything short, including this report, is 'speculation' 'conjecture" and 'not proven".

In other news, cigarettes don't cause cancer, where there is smoke there is not conclusively anything causing it, and the basis of the scientific method, inference and indirect observation have been invalidated. Sorry Sir Francis Bacon.

Beating the better teams and losing to lesser teams isn't a talent issue IMO. It's more about consistency and professionalism. When you consider all of the veterans we let go and the young guys who replaced them it's not really a big surprise.

That simply is not true. Ross became the owner of this team after the 2008 season. That was the season the Dolphins had gone 11-5 and actually made the playoffs. During the five years since he has been the majority owner of the team, the Dolphins have failed to have one single winning season. So I have idea how becoming the owner of a team which went to the playoffs the year before he purchased the team and being a sub five hundred teams, with no playoffs appearance during his ownership, equates to Ross having improved this team since he took over.

all i know is our offense blows we scored 30 or more 1 time this season every team in the playoffs did that at least 4 times this tells me we weren't a playoff caliber team. This team is just straight up boring as **** to watch most weeks we mud the game up and try to win ugly due to a lack of talent. If u guys enjoy this kind of football more power to you but its getting harder for me to watch every season.

I see plenty of threads complaining about the losses to Buffalo, NY, and Tampa. Many of them point to lack of player talent. So how so you explain the Indy, NE, CIN, and SD wins? All four of them are indisputably better than BUF, TB and NY. I guess my point is how do you blame lack of talent for losing to 3 mediocre to bad teams and leave it completely out of the equation in 4 wins over playoff teams? But then again, I am just a ignorant Jets fan, lol!

I also agree that there are some posters on here who are fans of the other teams in the AFC East and they would like nothing better than for Ireland to remain this teams GM. That would assure that their teams will continue to draft better talent than the Dolphins. I think the saddest day for the fans of these other teams will be the day Ross actually gets rid of Ireland. It will be at that time these fans will realize that the Dolphins might actually hire someone who knows how to draft quality talent.

As far as FIN D being a troll for one of these other teams. I believe he really is a Dolphin fan, but he just sees things differently than the majority of the fans on this forum. I have learned to just laugh at a lot of his comments. In fact I remember after the Tampa Bay game, he was ready to fire everyone a day after that game. I think most of the time he is just taking a Devil's advocate view, just to see if he can get a rise out of anyone of this forum.

I have been saying since the end of the season that Ross needs to hire an experienced football man to come in and take over as the, President of football operations. This individual should have responsibility over the hiring and firing of the HC and the GM.

You state Ross is now waiting for someone to accept this position. Would you kindly tell us where you are getting this information from. Since no one else has reported that Ross is looking at hiring someone to run the entire football operations. I hope it is true, but I need something more than you just making a statement that this is the case.

Well, if truth be told, I don't care whether Ireland stays or goes. I don't think he is great or terrible. But Philbin? At this point I hope he stays. How can he not get his team to beat either the Bills or Jets? You say your offense is bad? It looks like the Broncos compared to the Jets' offense. It's not even close. You guys flattened the Jets in that first game. You can't squeak out a win at home?

I may be completely off the mark, but if I had a choice between Ireland and Philbin, this Jets fan wants Philbin as your coach.

I don't want everyone fired, just Ireland. As far Philbin and the coaches staff is concerned. I am happy to let the next GM decide if they go or stay, I'm good either way.

Well nothing has happened at all so as a Jets fan this should pretty much be your dream scenario. Ireland AND Philbin. A coach that is terribly unimpressive and a GM who cannot figure out how to build a winning roster.

When you can't run the ball you're forced to pass, when you're forced to pass your pass pro is exposed, when your pass pro is exposed your QB is under pressure, when your QB is under pressure he gets sacked a lot, when your QB is sacked a lot you lead the league in sacks allowed, when you lead the league in sacks allowed you miss the playoffs, when you miss the playoffs people point fingers, when people point fingers other people point fingers back at them, and when people point fingers back at them you get media reports of tension in the building. Don't get media reports of tension in the building, ditch cable and switch to directtv. Call 1-800-directtv...

I think you will get your wish, at least in regards to Philbin still being the HC in 2014. Beyond that, I think the new GM, who will be in place after the Dolphins win only 5-6 games next year, will certainly hire his own HC to take over for Philbin.

Ireland and Philbin may survive this year, but I just don't see how they remain after the 2014 season. Right now the Bills have more talent than the Dolphins and the Jets have a better defense. I expect the Jets to upgrade their offensive skill positions in the off season and also their QB position. So I think it is very possible the Dolphins will finish with a maximum of 6 wins next year and finish in last in the AFC East.

Of course if Ross actually makes changes this year and not wait until next year, I am sure I will revise my win-loss estimates for next season, depending on who the new GM is that is hired.

Think about this. Repeat of Ireland and Sparano, only reverse this time. Philbin has the power in this situation and Ireland is hanging on. I don't like this. This is not the way to run an organization. There is a reason the Dolphins are playing at a 41 percent winning clip, and have had only one playoff appearance in the last 12 years. Sad really.
I am really more clear on the culprit here and that is Ireland. His prototype philosophy is not getting it done. He has no measure for heart and character. He has no measure for leadership. He is not finding guys who can come in and be real leaders as younger players. Find me a leader among his picks that are still on team.
Odrick? Pouncey? Misi? Solai? Jones? Clemons? These guys really aren't leaders. The closest to a leader is Hartline. (I am looking at drafted players, not free agents)

Well, they were screaming for Luck's head on Colts boards a few weeks ago.

I think Andy Dalton is lousy. I think Ryan Tannehill is much better than Dalton right now and has a lot more room to grow, as his physical tools are much better. So I'd love to see what Gruden could do here. He was an excellent head coach in Arena Football (yeah, yeah, I know), which makes me hopeful that he understands what being a head coach is all about and can push the right buttons and manage the team in a way that I don't think Joe Philbin is doing right now.

I am not going to jump off a bridge if the Dolphins do not make big changes this offseason, but I do think we would simply be delaying the inevitable.

I don't know much about Gruden but a lot of people seem to like him so he def could be a good hire.

Personally, I am a players guy. I believe in players and playmakers more than I believe in genius coaches. Not saying I'm right it's just my personal opinion bc I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. I believe Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers are great QBs who make their coaches look good not vice versa.

I dont believe in genius GMs either TBH.

The Bills don't have "more talent" our offensive line is just terrible and plays to their strength.

If you put the actual rosters sise by side we are far ahead of the Jets snd Bills in most aspects. We need to fix our offensive line...period, and I dobt care who is the GM that does it. We aren't lacking skill position talent.

I want the same thing I wanted last year. OLINEMEN. I said it in March of last year, gotta fix the OL. Give Miller some holes and he will gash people for big gains. When that happens safeties will creep up and then we can rip them with Keller on ply action and Wallace over the top. Put points on the board and then let Coyle release the hounds on opposing QBs to put teams away. That's our path to becoming a winning team.

If you're asking why I'm not screaming for Ireland's head all I can say is that our problems are so obvious that even I, or pretty much any GM can figure them out. Fix the OL, maybe grab a more physical RB, get the CBs and WRs healthy, boom: playoffs. We are not the Jags, Browns, Raiders etc, we don't need a new foundation we just need to fix what needs fixing.

I do think it is important to realize how much the Gibson and Keller injuries actually hurt us.

We ended up with bssically the same offense as last season but with Mike Wallace and a worse offensive line.

I think Ross has given a lot of good potential candidates pause to reflect, and we probably will eventually settle for someone up and coming or an old retread trying to prove himself again, after a failed job before.
