WQAM reporting Sherman removed as OC

Discussion in 'Miami Dolphins Forum' started by ASOT, Jan 6, 2014.

  1. Something a little bit peculiar about the idea that Ross is forcing Philbin to fire Sherman. Philbin was an OC before he became a HC. If I were Ross and felt the need to fire someone I think I might force him to fure coyle if I thought that the defense was broken, but if its the offense I looking to fire Philbin. This is his offense not Shermans. Sherman is just a do-boy for Philbin.

I have a gut feeling that it was Philbins decision to fire Sherman.

Why? So, we'll have a head coach who was a former OC but never called plays, and 2nd yr OC who did not call plays in his first year.

Unless the big name coordinators have family/homes in South Florida, they won't be coming to the Dolphins knowing that Philbin's job is on the line thus essentially making this a one year deal. So you can forget about Kubiak and other big name coaches, they're not coming without stability, stability which Philbin nor the GM has. That's why this is the trainwreck everyone is saying it is.

Chud may be up for it since he has Miami ties. But that's pretty much it. Ben McAdoo it is.

  13. I think your missing my point. People are assuming that firing Sherman was a demand that came down from Ross. If Ross is upset enough to fire someone and he blames the offense. Philbin is in charge of the offense not Sherman.

  14. You make a very good point about there being a lack of stability in that job but if the offense is fixed the problem of stability should go away. I think Miami still has the ability to attract a quality OC.

Don't be so sure. Many OC strive to be HC's, if Philbin were to be fired they may be first in line to get a shot as an interim.

    Thanks for clarifying.

I don't think Philbin had a choice given the last 2 games. I have been watching Dolphin Football for 40 years and I have never seen any Dolphin team play that poorly and we have had a couple doosies. It has been reported that Philbin has complete control over "His coaches" and that it is written into his contract. This "reporting" is from credible posters on this board. I personally have never reviewed Philbin's contract to know for sure what it contains. It sounds like a standard thing. Given Human nature and other small factors surrounding the team that have been reported I already think the decision has been made.

Got it. I think we all know what a cluster that the Redskins are. Probably the most mis-managed team in the NFL. Shoot there was even a slapping incident between Shanahan and RG III.

I am relying my observation and appreciation for his Brilliant offensive mind from when he was in Houston. Good for many years and exactly what Tanne needs to put him over the hump

Whoa, get rid of those aqua colored glasses you homer. McAdoo has never been an OC :tongue2:

Rest assured, we ran Mike Sherman's Texas A&M offense, complete with absolute reliance on the outside comeback route.

Right, he was QB coach this season. So he has never called plays. Neither has Philbin. How does that make me a homer?

  25. We ran it because Philbin agreed to run it

It was tongue-in-cheek. I was saying that your pessimism was too optimistic because you gave McAdoo more credit than he deserved in your attempt to not give him credit.

Why should McAdoo be good? He has no track record as an OC. It's just speculation whether he'll be good, bad, or mediocre.

This hiring does not excite me like if the hiring were Chud or Kubiak.

All this speculation of who should be our OC, I'm going to tell you who...

Ryan Tannehill. He needs to LIVE in the film room this offseason, learn to read defenses better. The best QBs in the league all make the high percentage playcall/ audible at the LOS. We NEED that type of dedication from him if he is to develop into a franchise QB.

From what I've seen, Ryan Tannehill is pretty good at reading defenses and making presnap decisions. I think he needs to work with a QB mechanics coach more than anything. Why can't he hit those deep balls? It's not because he lacks film study.

Watching Luck against KC brought flash backs of the glory days. Luck is a L E A D E R and definitely a "Franchise QB". Amazing control of that teams destiny. If Tanne turns out to be 1/2 of the QB Luck is we have done well. Then comes the question that I got a lot of crap for previously; If we have the Opportunity to upgrade Tannehill: DO WE?

This is silly. They more or less had the same statistics. Luck wasn't hampered by play calling or being sacked seven thousand times, and Tannehill is usually PHENOMENAL in end of game situations.

I'm actually so glad we didn't end up with Luck. Once I watched both of their college tape there was no doubt Luck is more polished but Tannehill has a higher ceiling.

    Not yet IMO...

He has his flaws and they are frustrating, but I think the early success of guys like Luck have made a lot of people forget that QBs (especially limited starts in college) take time to develop. If he plays 2014 like he played 2013 then yes, it is time to consider an upgrade.

I still believe he will make the jump into the near elite class next season, fixing his issues with Wallace alone will account for elite numbers and likely a playoff appearance.

andrew luck crippled his team by throwing 3 picks. the chiefs let off the gas pedal, and went complete ****** with their play calling and were hit with huge injuries. including a secondary so banged up they were using a safety as the nickel corner.
