The one with the most continuity and least disruption to the system and terminology the players already know. But with better play calling decisions.
Yea cuz Kubiak was an all pro qb who didn't inherit john elway and an MVP named Terrell Davis... Dorsey has cam playing smart football and is every much a part of that offense as Shula... Plus Dorsey is a sideline guy not a coaches box guy but whatever let's bring in another name...
Yep Shanahan sure knows how to run the ball within a WCO. EDIT: Wasn't Shanahan the one who wanted Tannehill instead of RGIII?
Why exactly? Personally I like coaches on the sideline. You may give up something, but you gain a lot in terms of feel for your players during the game. I actually wouldn't mind Dorsey. Who cares if he had an arm worse than Pennington. He is a smart guy, and if hr could pass the interview proccess with Philbin/Ireland/Ross I'd be on board.
You have to take into account the vision Joe Philbin has for the offense. It is beyond obvious that he envisions an offense that utilizes multiple receiver formations and single back sets, and he wants a deadily passing game. His vision for this offense is what he had in Green Bay during the 2010 and 2011 seasons -- an offense that has a precision passing game that is vertically oriented, can generate big plays, and can run the ball when the running game is needed. A lot of people mention Gary Kubiak. He's a good coordinator, but he doesn't share the same vision on offense as Joe. Gary is more of a two back set, run the ball to set up the pass style of coach. Whether you agree with it or not, as long as Joe Philbin is here, the Dolphins will not be a run-to-set-up-the-pass team. IMO, there is a very limited pool of coaches that the Dolphins have to choose from. The guy they have apparently chosen comes from that Green Bay system. A name that I mentioned is Danny Langsdorf, Oregon State's offensive coordinator.
Because I want them to have an overall view of the game that you can only get from being in the box. The feel of the players should come from communication from the sideline.
I agree that it is. However if we fail....we are blowing it up regardless. If he can pass the interviews why not? Granted he probably won't get an interview.
The communication will always be better with the coach on the sideline. There isn't always enough time for players to get a word in with their coordinator in the booth. I don't have an opinion either way honestly. I'd like to see statidtics of coaches on thr sideline vs in the booth.
Fair point. In truth I'm not particularly well placed to compare and contrast the relative strengths and weaknesses of Ken Dorsey vs Ben McAdoo. Dorsey I only vaguely knew was coaching and McAdoo I had never heard of until about 4 hours ago.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by overall view. Can you elaborate? Do you just mean the birds eye view? I'm not sure how much that helps or doesn't help honestly. I'm not saying you aren't right or don't have a point, just curious. Its still possible to have the same photos to work eith between series, so you at least dont lose that.
Make no mistake about it .It will be someone who is close to Philbin .No other outside OC worth his salt is going to hitch his wagon to this lame duck regime. Thats why someone like Ben Mc Adoo makes sense .He is not high profile ,he is young ,this would be a promotion in his career path and if the regime falls apart its doubtful he will get blamed for it. Whoever it turns out to be I predict he will have close ties to Philbin,he will be young and low profile.
I'd like to see Shula get the job, although I know it's a pipe dream. I agree with others that it won't be a big name oc given the 1 more year or else situation. Maybe if next year fails we can get Shula as HC.
As I noted in another thread, I don't buy this argument. It is anecdotal and specious that because a QB coach coaches a good or great QB that he won't be a good coordinator or offensive mind. The opposite can be argued just as well. By the above argument, all the guys that came from Bill Walsh (a TON of very good ones) should have been terrible coaches / coordinators - because Joe Montana was there (later Steve Young) and he can make any coach look good. Some also came via Walsh through Holmgren and they had Brett Favre.
I agree. No QB is going to be great without some competent coaching. Little do people remember that Drew Brees wasn't wanted in SD at one point.
As its been stated its going to be someone close to Philbin. Theres not a lot on Philbin or Mike McCarthhy's coaching tree with pro coordinator experience or coordinator experience at any level and that includes McAdoo from what little I know. Based on this coaching tree, hes either going to have be willing to call plays himself, hire a newbie like McAdoo or change the system and go outside the comfort zone with someone like Kubiak. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1663695-dissecting-the-coaching-trees-in-the-nfl-today
Brad Childress seems like the sort of guy who would be willing to take this job. He comes from a similar if not identical coaching tree. He's not a current OC. He has coached some good offenses. He has head coaching experience and could be the type of guy to take over a team on an interim basis if next year is a disaster.
Hes not a coach id want taking over on any kind of basis unless we're on a "Horrible for Hundley" kick. As an OC you could do worse.
I'm looking at it from a what's in it for Brad Childress perspective when I say that. I think every former HC is really probably looking for that way back in. If this team goes 2-8 and Philbin gets ****canned, Childress could feel pretty confident he'd get to step in and try to win 4 or more of the remaining games to have a credible shot as the team's next head coach. I agree he's definitely in the good OC, not so great HC category at least from history. Another thing that intrigues me is how this year's mission for him with the Chiefs was to investigate the spread and integrate it into the Reid version of the WCO.
I'd actually be excited to hire McAdoo. Either he's young and hungry enough to open things up and creates his own identity. Or he blows chunks and we get a fresh start from top to bottom (hopefully, but Ross is gonna Ross).
Bill Lazor is a name that got mentioned in the Palm Beach Post that I've had interest in. He's the Eagles quarterback coach, and that offense has a strong WCO component to the passing game with his and Pat Shurmur's influence. I think you'd be able to satisfy most of what Philbin would want with a derivative of that offense, besides maybe the more than perfunctory use of the run game.
Childress was 39-35 as a head coach. Philbin hasn't done that well, yet. He was a bone headed Favre interception from likely going to the Super Bowl.
I really think its gonna be Mcadoo. From what I gather..the Green Bay players love him..hes a very good teacher...and seems very bright. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
I'd be pretty excited if we hired Rhett Lashlee. http://www.auburntigers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/lashlee_rhett00.html
