That is completely ridiculous. You must be the only person who has watched the college tapes of Luck and Tannehill and came away thinking Tannehill has a higher ceiling.

While I don't agree with the opinion Alex has, it's hardly ridiculous IMO. Luck is clearly more polished IMO, and Tannehill is not very far behind Luck in production to me at this point. I could see Tannehill being the best QB in the NFL if it all came together for him (I find that unlikely for the record). I could see the same with Luck though (and find it more likely).

Smells like the second coming of Sparano, now we have another lame duck coach! If Philbin turns this thing around next year he is Houdini! Ireland must know something bad about Ross, that must be the only explanation why he is still here. Well if it stays like this I wont buy league pass next year, and the only chance people will come to Joe Robby is when they start like this year and then show some more, but I don't think it will happen.

There is NO SUCH THING as a lame duck coach.

Write that on the wall 200 times, until you understand.

Glad to see Sherman go but it's not going to fix all of our problems. If Ireland doesn't get fired then this owner isn't serious about improving the team.

Why exactly? Their production so far doesn't say Luck is leaps and bounds ahead, while he clearly is more polished.

In college I saw Luck multiple times under pressure turn anf throw without looking straight to a defender. If Tannehill can fix his deep ball mechanics you are talking about two guys with nearly identical physical traits *Arm strength and accuracy) nearly identical smarts (might give the nod to Ryan) and both with great mobility.

They aren't as far off as you assume.

Tannehill better be as smart as he say he is. This will be the first time he learns a new offense since being a freshman.

Incidentally this will be Mike Wallace's fourth offence in four years. Bruce Arians - Todd Haley - Mike Sherman - ????

Has track record really helped this team? Look at all the re-treads and track record guys we have brought in that literally shat the bed over the last 10 years.

I like this move purely because it's what the good teams do. They pull a young guy who has a lot of years being part of a good offensive system and let em run. I like the fact we are trying this route for once. Ben McAdoo is 36 yet has a decade in Green Bay working his way up from quality control to where he is now. If can come in prepared and wow them in the meetings..........why not?

Plus I would be curious who he'd bring in as replacements for Jim Turner/Zach etc. Might be a total offensive coach overhaul.

Easy to get a quality offensive coordinator. If I'm an offensive minded former head coach who has been fired, I jump all over this opportunity to rehabilitate my career.

This gets overlooked when a QB leads a big comeback. I believe Luck's 3 INT's lead to 17 Chiefs points.

Favre was the King of this type of comeback.

I'm happy w/ the move and hope it was Philbin who pulled the trigger. I still can't believe what's-his-putz line coach wasn't fired at the end of the Jets game. Unbelievable.

I hope whoever we get to replace him knows about QB development too or mostly. I'm putting my eggs (most of them) in the Tanny basket for the long term future of my beloved Phins.

OK, I agree with this move but who can we get to come here to serve with a lameduck Head Coach and GM? Philbin sure as hell isn't going to be bringing in someone that could wind up being his replacement. We need a young, aggressive, innovative mind....what person with those qualities is going to come here?

If it does come down to Ben McAdoo at least it is supposedly not too far away from the current philosophy and scheme which should aid Tannehill and the rest.

Guys should get familiar with McAdoo. We aren't the first team to try and hire him as an OC. Tampa Bay was blocked hiring him for OC TWO years ago. Word out of Green Bay is that we aren't the only ones considering him. There is even some rumblings he has an outside shot at one of the HC jobs although those folk think he may need some time at OC first to get to that point.

It's not over yet. Ireland isn't confirmed as retaining his job yet. Also with a new OC will come further offensive coaches being replaced. The biggest move might just be finally getting Tanny a veteran QB coach. To me that is one of the biggest needs to evolve himself past Sherman's system.

I think people put too much stock in assistant coaches every game plan offensive and defensive has to get approved by the head coach.

The plan might be great, it doesn't mean the way it is implemented during the game is.

You're right in a way though.

Think you need to re-read my post. I have zero confidence in Ireland. I'm just stating it hasn't been made final whether he is keeping his job or not. So there is still hope he's fired.

Sometimes coaches become qb coaches on purpose because its easy to leave that position when the "real" oc job you want opens up.

Also Kubiak almost died this season, taking a step down to avoid stress might be in his best interest.

All that said, I think your right and this will never happen.

You keep insisting things are different about this team. You've been doing it all year long. And I so wanted you to be right. Especially when you insisted this team had turned a corner and wasn't the team I remembered who would lose games to teams it absolutely shouldn't. Unfortunately, because Jeff Ireland is still the GM it's still essentially the same poorly built team that is still horrifyingly mediocre. And to that point, Ross is still the owner. So it stands to reason he will continue to move forward with ****ty half measures; lacking the conviction to do what really needs to be done. So while once again, I hope you are right and he is fired - I'm pretty sure unfortunately I'll be "right" again.

As to your first statement I'll take your word on it. Although I'm expecting many other fans who came over to team Fireland in these last few months to hop the fence once it's announced that Ireland isn't going anywhere. Fans will trick themselves into being enamored with another piss poor or at best mediocre Ireland draft and the cycle begins anew.

The dude got fired because of a philosophy of constricting a mobile Qb to the pocket, sacrifice wins and playoffs, in hope that it will make him a better pocket Qb long term...

Lol...dumass..sorry, I don't think I know more about football than mike Sherman, except what I saw this year with that Qb, considering his strengths, to have him absolutely not put his strengths unto a gameplan from week to week was astounding to me,and shows me he lacks in evaluation skills....it all got your *** fired..

Still don't see it. He's got a year left on his contract to sit on and get healthy again after his scare and still have his name in the ring for HC jobs the following year.

  38. I agree with you that Ireland has been mediocre as a GM and it is time to move on from him but I am having a hard time agreeing with your logic. You seem to be using the losses as evidence that Ireland has done poorly at acquiring talent. However this team has enough talent to pull off wins against some of the top teams this year. IMO this season is more on the coaching than it is about talent on the roster.

  39. I kinda got the same sense as you that they were trying to force RTs development into becoming more of a pocket passer. I think it was more that just that, that got him fired. Some of the play calling and even the design of the plays he called were just mind boggling.

People say that the Go, Go-Go controversy was overblown but I think it sort of defeats using any play action.

When the O-Line is getting crushed why not call some draws and screens to slow down the defense?

CK did a nice breakdown on why some of our deep passes could not reach Wallace in stride because the play design took too long to develop.

Lets also not leave out how he would call 3rd down plays that hit the receivers well short of the marker and expected them to get the first with YAC

I mean there is just so many issues that can be laid at his and Philbins feet.
