I've no idea either way on Winston as a prospect, but do you really think this is relevant? There's one superbowl winning QB each year and at most 1 Heisman winning quarterback each year. The odds alone are against someone winning both. I don't think the success or otherwise of previous Heisman winners has anything to do with the prospects for current / future winners. @ 12 years old he knew more about the game of football than 2/3s of ThePhins posters. Baller. but **** going 0-16 or anywhere close. Fire Ireland + Sign olineman + Draft well = playoffs. edit: Winston needs glasses/contacts and doesn't wear them on gameday... That's kind of weird. I imagine he'd be even better @ 20/20.
Sorry my responses are so dickish. It just boggles my mind that a redshirt freshman, graduates high school with a 4.0 GPA. Gets drafted into MLB. Passes on that opportunity to go to college. Maintains a 4.0 GPA, in college. Is extremely passionate about the game, while is an amazing leader of the team. As a red shirt freshman, leads his team on to an undefeated championship season, that he capped off by driving 80 yards in 60 seconds to win it. Oh yea, while winning the heisman trophy and having that on his back. And people turn around and call him an idiot and say he can't read coverages. It's ****ing blasphemy honestly. Will he be a great NFL QB? I don't know yet. But he's certainly not the passionless Jamarcus Russell. In fact, he is actually almost the exact opposite of what Russell was.
Racist?? Maybe you shouldn't be throwing around accusations without a single piece of evidence. I am pretty sure nothing I said could be ever be construed as racist.
It can be viewed that way because you compared two polar opposites. Because their black. A more accurate comparison would be Big Ben. Doesn't mean he turns out as good, but their games are very similar.
Maybe I should gain approval from the posters on this forum as to who the consensus approves so I can compare an athlete to, so I am not called derogatory names.
Please don't label someone a Rapist unless he has been indicted, charged and found guilty. My best friend was arrested and charged with Rape, the Police called him a Rapist, the local media was calling him a Rapist and reporting him in the news as a Rapist, people on the street were referring to him as a Rapist, he was suspended from work. The teenage female who accused him of Rape was his sister in law. This went on for several weeks until one detective starting seeing problems in her story. He and another detective started looking at the "victim" and her story and accusation fell apart. They found out she had gotten in trouble with her parents after staying out all night with a boyfriend and she told her parents she had been Raped by her brother in law. It took a long time for my friend to recover from his ordeal but he was the victim, not a Rapist! I am not a big Winston fan, but the Police didn't charge him, the victim waited a year to even accuse him and the State Attorney didn't see enough to file charges or to convene a Grand Jury. A true Rapist doesn't deserve any sympathy and deserves everything he gets. A young 20 year old shouldn't be labeled from unproven accusations.
then don't link him to another black QB who is nothing like him, nor jump the gun heavily and suggest he'll have a hard time reading coverage [even though he's a 4.0 student who has been working on learning coverages for a while now]. There's ZERO reason at this point to indicate he'll have a hard time reading coverage in the NFL other than if someone has some type of preconceived notion about Winston. If he were white with a 4.0 GPA I seriously doubt you would've compared him to Jamarcus and I seriously doubt you would've been so premature about declaring him as someone who will have trouble reading NFL coverage. If the shoe fits.
It's always racism when talking about quarterbacks but if we're talking running backs it's all good. Ah internet.
Wow, I am surprised of the kind of reaction this comparison has caused. Let me just say this, I don't care who anyone wants to compare him to regardless if they are white, black, pink or yellow, I am not impressed with him as a QB. I am not racist and the shoe doesn't fit.
Except Ben has a huge arm that Winston doesn't....I don't see that comparison at all. I don't see the Russell comparison either though I don't think he meant it in a racist way. I mean honestly I don't know what current QB to compare him to, or even past.
well Rotoworld compares Winston to Byron Leftwich. I guess they are racist too. I don't have a comparison right now, but I also know that I wouldn't draft him with a top 10 pick this upcoming draft. If he stays in school for another year or two and develops more, I might change my mind. [EDIT] Pete Prisco actually made the comparison and Rotoworld restated it. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/cfb/131089/jameis-winston
I think that is a better comparison than Jamarcus but I don't remember him recieving the amount of hype. I guess that still makes me racist.
Your kidding me right? Winston has every bit of an arm that Big Ben has. Jameis plays the majority of the game with touch. But he shows it off. He certainly doesn't have the release Big Ben has. That's really the only difference of the two.
Lol. People like you crack me up. Why would it be racist to compare two QBs that are similar, just because their black?? No, comparing two black QBs that are opposites could be looked at as racist though. Which is what happened in this thread.
I never said it was racist. I said I could be perceived as. And yea, you can't say all you see is hype when he's produced an heisman and a NC in his lone season. Lol
Leinhart won both, Jason White won a hesiman and took OK to a NC game, Same with Troy Smith. All hyped up by the media but never really amounted to much in the NFL.
His attitude? Are you joking? If every person had the same positive attitude as Winston, the world would be a much better place? Low level of intelligence? He was accepted into Stanford as a regular student.
You guys missed the most important part of this post. Cam Cameron went from Dolphins Head Coach to Heisman Winner. That's amazing!
Tannehill is a better Qb than Winston. I think Auburn exposed the level of competition that Winston played this year, he was clearly rattled for a lot of that game under pressure. I think it will be interesting to see if teams have learned anything about him and if he can adjust. Auburn was clearly the best team FSU played all year and they needed a fake punt, missed chip shot, kickoff return, etc. to barely win at the last second. The came back and he showed some guts to stick it out after clearly being rattled early so if he can come back and have another big year he will certainly be a guy to watch for in the NFL draft. Now tanking a year for him? I don't think so. There are serious concerns about his play and character that just weren't there with Luck so comparing the two is a little silly at this point. Kid might be a one year wonder or he might take his game to the next level and be a run away #1 overall, who knows.
What does that have to do with anything? Winston is a freshman. The only Hype around him currently is as a COLLEGE quarterback. Tebow in the pros means nothing.
Yes it is relevant! College football and NFL football are two different games entirely! The title of the thread, "Winless for Winston"...a Heisman Trophy winning COLLEGE quarterback and when you look at the list of Heisman winning quarterbacks, not only have they not WON a Super Bowl, how many of them actually had a successful career? Some of these quarterbacks were DEEPLY coveted, only to be BUSTS!!! I'll reserve judgement on Newton and RGIII, although Newton is about to be "judged" but the ONLY quarterback on that list that had a shred of NFL success was Carson Palmer. Winning the Heisman doesn't automatically translate into NFL talent...most likely, the opposite is true and I'm sorry but Jameis Winston falls into that category; a Heisman Trophy winner who will be a bust of an NFL quarterback...a shooting star that NFL teams will wish upon, several will wipe their brows in relief when they look back in hindsight and was thankful they didn't get him, while one team whose wish does come true, will regret ever drafting him! Ridicule my logic now, but mark my words...Winston will be a bust of an NFL quarterback, along with nearly ALL of his fellow Heisman Trophy winning comrades.
Correlation does not equal causation. I can buy that Winston will bust, but it will have nothing to do with winning the Heisman. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
