The Phinsiders are talking about a powerful CZAR type position opening up again. The Parcells experiment didn't go so well. I can see a Dungy type guy come in and oversee all operations. Aponte could end up being the first female GM.
So why did the Dolphins and G.M. Jeff Ireland mutually part ways? According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, owner Stephen Ross wanted to unilaterally strip from Ireland most if not all of his power over the team’s personnel. Per Salguero, Ross wanted to hire someone who would have operated at a level above Ireland, holding most if not all of the authority Ireland currently possesses. Though Salguero names no names, many will speculate that Ross wanted to install former Chiefs G.M. Carl Peterson in that role. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/07/report-ross-wanted-to-take-power-away-from-ireland/
I am glad that we let him go. However, the job to get it corrected is not done. We need to hire the correct GM and OC.
Ireland's draft record has sucked. That's what we get for hiring a learn on the job guy to the teams TOP position. He's caused a lot of pain. Please god make it get better soon.
I definitely think Ross brings in some heavy hitters. I would not be shocked if he gives Marino a position of importance(not GM) and really tries to sell the fan base on bringing in the best people possible to get this thing headed finally in the right direction. A combo of Gaine/Aponte with VETERAN people overseeing the setup
As happy as I am with Ireland gone as the GM. That happiness will quickly diminish if Gaine or Aponte take over as the teams GM. I don't think either of them are the right answer for a team who needs to hire a GM who can come in and select quality talent in the draft and in free agency. There are many GM candidates around the league who are more highly qualified for the job than either one of these two individuals, IMO.
A new day... Unfortunately the bullseye moves to philbin now, here we go again. Unless gm switches it up..... Wishful thinking !
So essentially Ross made Ireland a deal he had to refuse. It will be very interesting to say the least what kind of stories we will hear come out about this GM now that players don't have to worry about burning bridges.
So here's a question, can some of the Ross haters come out? I mean, we needed a change at GM and OC and Ross made it happen. He did the same with Sparano. I'm sure he gave Philbin the ultimatum. Get rid of Sherman or your both gone. So far Ross has seem to not rush to firings, but when times up, he makes a change. I like it.
If Ross is as smart a business man as I think he is...he doesnt follow up this move with something uninspiring like Brian Gaines. Right now he just bought himself a ton of goodwill with the fans..canning Sherman and now Ireland. My feeling is a plan is in place. The names are in place. The reason I feel this way..is because you dont fire a GM....and expect to bring in one of the bigger names in football when you are already tied to someone like Aponte and Philbin. So..my best guess. Dawn Aponte as GM. But not your traditional GM...she won't have personnel power. A team president will be named..and will do this. And...this to me feels kind of empty. So...they wanted to keep Ireland and bring in someone above him to make final decisions? Like he was going to accept that? Even when we finally get rid of Ireland it happens in such a way that makes you wonder what was going on. Whatever...at least we'll finally have a new GM.
Since I heard about Ross giving away half his money to the needy, I say he can do no wrong. All he's done is try to improve the team and bring the fans closer to the action by improving the stadium. He's a huge Dolphins fan and is sick after we lose but remained hopeful to the end.
I'm dancing a kazatsky....see me in there.....
Ross proved a lot of us wrong today. He made a change that needed to be made. Now comes the hard part: Hiring the right replacement. For now I'm just enjoying this great news.
Ireland got paid for his last year anyway, Ross wanted to sap whatever brain power he had left since he already paid for it.
Because she seems like a complete b*** to me, from what I've seen and heard. She and Ireland brought an air on negativity to the front office imo. I don;t like her negotiating style, my guess it that it's a negative as per attracting free agents and fostering a sense of goodwill among drafted players. Hard ball is one thing, a** h*** is another.
I am all for bringing in people from outside the organization. Ross is smart enough to see some of the apathy of the fan base and will try to get us excited about the direction of this team I have no doubt that plan is in place. No doubt. Let's hope this is finally the starting point for change...change for the better
He might not be in the top 50 passing QB's in college, but he is a great fit for the type of offense Auburn runs.
