I would love this. If Gamble is as good as advertised and we don't blow up the roster I can see us as a playoff team.
A lot of experience under quality guys for Gamble...I'm in for anything that helps this organization,
I think Gamble is as good a GM prospect as any, but I don't for the life of me understand the perception of some of these candidates. How do you know how well they can make these type of decisions when they haven't actually made any of them?
Well I think most would rather have a guy from a successful scouting department thsn a failure. I mean it gives a little confidence that he can evaluate talent. Also nice to see ringing endorsements from around the league as well. You're right that it doesn't guarantee success though.
Well to be honest, that applies to everything in life. How do you know a President will be a good one, if he hasn't been President before? How do you know a player will be a good pro, if he hasn't been a pro before? How do you know someone will be good at something if they haven't done it before? You don't really know. All you can do is look at his track record, his ideas, his previous experience in other areas or similar areas, and his overall qualifications, and from there take and educated gamble (no pun intended).
I woke up this morning, fixed a cup of coffee, and sat down at the computer. Yep. I wasn't dreaming. Jeff Ireland has been fired, and we are actually being mentioned as possible destinations for top notch GM candidates in Tom Gamble and Alonzo Highsmith. What a change from a week ago. A week ago, it look like we were going to be stuck with a complete tool of a GM. Now, we suddenly are looking at the cream of the crop. It's amazing!! My coffee tastes very good this AM. I think I'll have another cup.
Unbelievable how ....all the sudden this franchise doesnt feel like....well....lol..our country. No longer do you feel like...things will never change. Hell, if Ross can boot Ireland...can we find someone to do the same to Obama and REALLY make 2014 one to remember.
If tom gamble is hired I am getting a dolphins jersey with his name on the back and the dollar sign for the number cause he is money
Just one look at twitter and you can see Eagles fans reacting in horror to him possibly leaving, this is a good sign to me!
It's stuff like this that would make me think he is probably not leaving Philly: "It remains to be seen if Gamble wants to leave Philadelphia. Accepting the GM job in Miami would certainly be a promotion, but Gamble has local ties in the area. He was born in Haddonfield, NJ. And as Jeff McLane points out, Gamble came back to Philly partly to be near his parents, including his father who is currently in hospice care." http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/...top-candidate-dolphins-gm-jeff-ireland-rumors
That's sad to hear about his dad & understandable. I bet he can work out a deal to use Ross's private jet to see his dad anytime. Miami to Philly is a lot closer than SF to Philly. Please make it happen Ross. -Sent from my TMO Samsung Galaxy Note 3 using Tapatalk
I expect that whether or not we land Gamble (whom I'd be thrilled with) will mostly depend on non-football related matters. It will be mostly about his family and whether or not he wants to leave the Philly area.
I know, it sucks, only the owners and suits get privy to the eval journal..but all we have is that he was on a staff that chose those players..so really, it's all we got to get excited about..
Exactly buddy.. Question..if Salam Hayek said I want to poop on your chest because it turns her on, would you let her?
I wouldn't. I think fans are generally idiots who mostly base their opinions on W/L records and perceptions of personalities.
Let me clarify..in general, if looking at all the opinions on a website like ours, were gonna probabaly give you a more accurate evaluation on a player or coach than the pundits..you just have to sift thru the right info.
Who was the 49er GM or head scout that got fired for drunk driving or something like that? Was it another team or am I just imagining this?
If he interviewed for the Jaguars GM position it seems likely he would consider a promotion to GM, however I doubt he would make a lateral move away from Philly.
IMO, and of course I'm a little bit biased, but if Ross doesn't hire Gamble, he's making a huge mistake. Our fanbase wasn't happy about losing Gamble at all. But with Baalke being entrenched as our GM for the forseeable future, there was really no where for him to go as far as advancement to the GM level. It was only a matter of time before someone got around to noticing him. If he becomes your GM, and you let him bring in his type of football coach, you'll own the divison within 2-3 years. And yes, I understand the Pats still play in your division. That's also not a knock against Philbin coaching acumen becuase he might very well be a good coach but with the whole Jonathan Martin mess, Gamble would likely just clean house and built a new one from the ground up. If Gamble is hired and says he brings Greg Roman with him as he's HC, I think your fanbase would be estatic with the results.
Interesting: Dolphins' interest in Gamble as GM really another play for Jim Harbaugh http://mweb.cbssports.com/nfl/write...le-as-gm-really-another-play-for-jim-harbaugh
I honestly don't believe Ross has thought that far ahead or actually has that in mind, but uhm... I hope so?
Pure ecstasy to dream, but If the niners let Harbaugh go their complete idiots, and it don't think they are... But I would love Ross to get gamble..
Hey the one good thing that could come from Ross courting Harbaugh was what Harbaugh said to him about Gamble, if he really told Ross that gamble would be his GM, or that he thinks gamble is an upcoming star, then that's a hell of an endorsement imo..
From what I have read, It's a few disagreements here and there, nothing major..he loves that culture, they have a new stadium.. I'll take gamble and be happy..
As will I, for now. But we'll see. If the relationship has soured on Trent Baalke and he loved Tom Gamble so much back in 2011 then there's a possibility that part of the reason he took the SF job was Tom Gamble. He did already know Baalke and so that made him more comfortable but I've never heard that he necessarily loved Baalke, just that he knew him and was familiar with him. If he genuinely liked Gamble that may have been a tipping factor for him. And if things have soured with Baalke then maybe that plays a big factor. People assume that he and his family just don't want to leave that area. They may like it there, but they're not unwilling to leave. People in The Club know that Harbaugh was ready to come to Miami. His bags were packed so to speak. Shied away from it last minute because he was not comfortable with the team structure (and GM). I'd like to keep dreaming for now. I'd also like to keep dreaming about Gus Malzahn for now as well. And Tom Gamble knows a little something about how to transition college coaches into the NFL. His last front office two stints involved successfully transitioning two college coaches into the NFL. And the latter stop involved a coach that runs as innovative an offense as Malzahn.
