I don't think so. If I were a potential GM I'd be looking for a coach who didn't seem likely to want my job down the line and an owner who would spend and not meddle. Also I'd want a good young QB in place. I think all of those are in place here. That would create stability if things went well and the QB would increase that odds that things would go well. If things went badly, my concern with Aponte would be related to her desires to take my job rather than if the coach liked her. But I figure that if things went badly that Philbin and Aponte would most likely be out before me. And with those owner I'd think the odds were good that I'd get to pick my coach and bring in a new QB, staff, etc.

Anytime you force a coach on a GM the position won't be very attractive. When you force another executive on someone, the position is even less desirable. It's a GM job so it's still going to be a great gig, but a GM is going to want authority to clean house.

read my post that followed that comment up. It's called intentionally being dramatic.
I didn't say that's what I thought they did [tanked it]. If it hypothetically came out that they did in fact do that, I said it wouldn't surprise me, you know- considering we scored 7 total points the final two games. Would you disagree?

Considering what you said about a depleted Jags squad putting up 20 the week before, my first thought is their OC available for hire? :)

Why would executive disagreements affect the team play the final two weeks? That just sucks that players have that little heart, especially Tannehill and the defense. What was their possible explanation of the collapse? Did they not give 100%?

How about we let it play out before rushing to judgement! If the top guys turn us down then get the pitchforks ready until then we should chill and hope for the best.

The defense was not bad. Gave up an average of less than 20 pts. Considering how long they were on the field that is not bad.

Seven sacks against Buffalo and a knee injury.

I just cannot agree that he lacked heart. Maybe lacking physically, but not heart. Until he shows me otherwise, I disagree. He may not have led on as to how much pain he was experiencing because of his heart, not because of the lack of it. He came back into that game after getting absolutely hammered, for crying out loud! That is heart enough for me.....

True, the D did their jobs holding them to 20 pts with 3 TO's and gave up only 2:24 more in TOP. The passing game just got shot down with a 50% completion rate out of 40 passes. Why 40 passes, Miller averaged 4.3 YPC and only got 17 touches. The handoff to Clay on 4th down probably cost us the game. TERRIBLE CALL. Why not a misdirection keeper for Tannehill?

If this situation is anywhere close to Armando's description that is disconcerting. No wonder Miami has floundered. I do hope this is exaggerated. I will say I was a bit put off regarding the harsh tone Aponte gave on the phone when talking about Tannehill and his contract. I am not sure about her as a GM candidate, but I could see her in the League office.

Besides the poor offense, does this defense take any blame for being a poor third down defense and having the ball run down our throat...maybe adding to the reasons they were on the field alot

With a second string quarterback and missing their best wide receiver AND their 2nd best wide receiver for a half, the defense didn't do their job. Score should have ended in a zero - zero tie.

Oh I totally agree w/ you. Third and long was money in the bank for the opposing team and we got ran on a lot, but they did well in the points department. Not bad.

In hindsight it seems like the team ran out of ammo after the NE game. I'm skeptical of Philbin but it's only fair to give him another year.

Hopefully Wheeler is not the starter next year. I guess I answered my own question. It was lack of talent & poor offensive play calling and play design that kept us out of the playoffs rather than a coaching quarrel with the GM.

If anyone could give those stats on 3rd down and long conversions allowed vs the rest of the leauge, I might be inclined to send you a six pack of Mississippi's finest Lazy Magnolia brew.

I just cannot believe how horrid they were on allowing 3rd down conversions. It happens, but it shouldn't happen THAT much!

Of course they do, but in the end our defense was the 8th best in the league and our offense was 26th.

Offense is the much bigger issue. Which is the way it's been with us for years now.

I say this with limited information and media reports. I didn't like Irish, but I am definitely not sure I like Aponte. And I am not opposed to the idea of a female gm. Her personality kind of rubs me the wrong way if reports are true. Her approach on the phone on the HBO show didn't impress me, but the team is in good health salary cap wise.

First one I think because her scene is about Ryan Tannehill's contract negotiations.

These stats about how defenses are judged are all over the place. I have seen us ranked anywhere from 10-20. What is that 8th ranking based on???? I looked on several sites and almost on everyone our defense was ranked around 20th. This was based on yardage given up. Maybe your 8th ranking is based on pts given up? Either way...with all due respect...no way was this a top 8 Defense. Not by any means. Not by any stretch of of any imagination. If we go into the off season thinking we have a Top 8 Defense...we are delusional and in a heap of trouble.

While I believe points against is very important...half of the league is about 5 points per game from one another. The dolphins were a FG away per game from dropping all the way to 18th. Again...anyone who watched this defense KNOWS we are not a top 8 Defense. Not even close

I think points per possession Is a more telling stat honestly. Not sure how we ranked there.

Found it. We ranked 12 with 1.75 points allowed per possession. So our defense was slightly above average.

This bend but not break defense is like playing Russian roulette. The amount of yards we gave up on the ground is frightening. Keeps this defense on the field way longer than needed. Gives me Olividatti type nightmares

I agree. Unfortunately, it was the offense that could not garner points. What was it, like ONE GAME >30pts?

To be fair the offense didn't stay on the field. Its probably fair to say the defense was often winded. You can also say they didn't help their own cause. It could go on and on.
