That's not the issue. The issue is how much power will she have going forward in building the roster. This is vague right now is not sitting comfortable with potential GMs or fans.

Who says she's power hungry, as if everyonen else isn't, and who said Ross want to give he more power. What at all makes you think this?

Or better yet, Stephen Ross can make the key organizational hires with input from his people and we can hire a GM who is actually knowledgeable about the game of football. Your long diatribe on hiring Aponte as GM can be summed up in one word- ridiculous. If she's on board as a hard ball negotiator- fine, but not my choice. But she's stirred up enough crap around here- having her as GM with some true power would be a disaster imo. I'll pass on that one, big time.

Well, maybe the articles in the news about the team's power struggles and dysfunction have something to do with it. Firing Ireland was a great start, but we should clean house and start anew. There's a stink to the whole thing with Philbin and Aponte still onboard. Get Gamble or another person for GM who knows what they're doing and let them build this thing right.

Well not as strongly as I have put it but they write a lot of rubbish because it well known that they do not get any information on the team not already freely available.

    I believe it is FUBAR.
Amen. Philbin has been at a professional organization for years and has behaved as a professional. He wants to win games. He is not shaking in his shoes about his job. I think he is bigger than that.

WADR that's looking at it in a vacuum to lay full credit for the cap situation to Aponte.

Firstly, the team was already $44 million under the cap when Parcells took over in 2008.... and it sure didn't hurt Aponte's "cap" that the majority of that $44 million was back off the books within 3 years b/c all those poor free agent signings were quickly off the team sans Starks and Bell. To heck with 2008, most all our FA signings and past players since then were off the team by 2013- Marshall, Pennington, Carey, JT, Joey Porter, Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Dansby, Jake Grove, Smiley, Gibril Wilson, Wes Welker, Jay Feely, Crowder, Yeremiah Bell, Vonnie Holliday, Ernest Wilford, Satele, Polite, Reggie Torbor, Jason Ferguson, Josh McCown, Will Allen, Camarillo, Andre Goodman, Renaldo Hill, Tim Dobbins, Bobby Carpenter, Charlie Anderson, Michael Lehan, and probably then some. That's like half a billion dollar's worth. How does her cap situation not benefit from all those contracts dropping off the books?

Secondly, we weren't really "under the cap" last year to the level people want to make it seem. We merely had a crop of our own more-expensive guys all hit FA at the same time. We essentially robbed Peter to pay Paul with much of it in a reallocation of funds.

Thirdly, she can thank Ireland and whomever else in the scouting department for the better cap situation b/c they brought in significantly more cheap talent via the draft than anyone else in recent Miami history. Much of the roster was still under rookie contract. When you get starters out of 5th and 6th rounders, that saves money. That's not a big kudos to her.

Lastly, anyone can get the cap down with a little discipline, however, how she managed the cap didn't appear to show up on the football field. Not to mention, during her tenure she made Dansby the highest paid ILB in the game and overpaid for many other FA's.

Why the hell do half of you treat any criticism of Aponte or the extra authority given her as a Jeff Ireland thing? Seriously, it's f***ing annoying.

Only way to get Dansby and the over overpaid FA's was to overpay them. That is the nature of signing top free agents.

Wasn't Ross involving Aponte in the 2012 coaching search and selection of Philbin an indication of giving her more power? That falls outside of the financial/legal stuff, no? What I'd like to know is what does she actually know about football to qualify her to be involved in that process.

I'd be fine with this if Ross is hell bent on keeping things structured this way. 2014 might suck but I'd take a one year hit in order to get things on track.

This weeks revelations basically affirm the fact that there was indeed a level of dysfunction between Philbin, Ireland and Aponte. There were plenty of stories during the season that hinted at it and everyone said, "MEDIA CONSPIRACY!!!" Now, here we are again. Any negative media report cannot be true. It has to be a conspiracy. And now folks, some including former Ireland supporters suggesting or supporting the notion that he's planting negative reports in an attempt to get revenge on his former team.

I subscribe to the "Where there's smoke there's fire" logic. Something about the current power structure in Miami smells. But Ross hasn't finished all his changes yet, and he still has a chance to make the right choice at GM. So I'll sit tight and wait for now.

Huh? She kissed Ross's *** around the country to get in with him b/c she didn't want to answer to a GM [in the absence of a czar]. Then she formed an alliance with Philbin to secure more power. Not to mention she has aspirations to attain a position of greater power. I'd say Ross involving her in our coaching search and the hiring of Philbin is an example of giving her more power, as well as both the promotion he gave her last year and the power he wants to take away from the GM position which obviously has to go elsewhere.

Now, if the reports are true that our GM wanted Mike McCoy [who is currently in the playoffs] and Ross & Aponte wanted Philbin, then what does that say about the power distribution that we went with Philbin?

She cozied up to her boss and busted her *** because she wanted a promotion. Why the **** are you acting like this is some sort of mafia power play instead of normal operating procedure in every industry from football to fast food?

She also didn't align with Philbin UNTIL Ireland tried to get her fired for no reason.

    1. She's kissed his *** around the country? Thats been reported? That's been fact checked? That's provable? Pure speculation.

    2. Someone wanting to advance their career does not make them power hungry. It makes them human. If you're not aspiring to improve your station in life, what are you doing? She wants a better, higher paying job with more responsibility? BURN HER TO HELL, SHES A WITCH!

    3. He wanted to take the power away from IRELAND, never said anything about future hires. (his new statement says as much)

    Assumptions.

So to sum up what you're saying- she's the best person for the job because she isn't qualified for the job at all. She's a "capologist" and any and all football decisions would fall on someone else? Or simply- Shes not capable of making player evaluations/decisions, the main responsibility of a GM and therefore since that would fall on other people she could pass the blame on others when something fails and take credit when it works? Yep, you're right. She's definitely the right person for the job

Why the **** are you acting like any power attempt etc can only be of the f***ing mafia kind?! Parcells left and she didn't want to answer to a GM, so she schmoozed Ross to ensure it wouldn't happen.... and then schmoozed up with Philbin to solidify it further. And she somehow got herself involved in the head coaching search and hiring of Philbin even though her goddam background is financial/legal. This isn't so much about her wanting the power as it is her potentially being given too much of it. If you have a hard-on for a financial/legal person becoming GM or having a bigger say about the football side of things, then that's your choice, but that doesn't give you the right to act like the rest of us are off our rockers for being concerned about it.

who gives a crap. It doesn't change the fact that she did align with Philbin, which could be cause for concern for future GM candidates who might not find that type of action very trustworthy. Are you telling me that if you were a candidate for the GM job you wouldn't have a worry in the world about Aponte potentially undermining you and that you'd have faith in her having your best interest in mind despite her wanting some of your power and refusing to answer to you?

    And get your chronology straight:
Parcells left. Aponte then decided she didn't want to answer to a GM and instead only wanted to answer to our owner. So she shmoozed up with Ross by following him back and forth to NY under false pretenses in attempt to bypass our GM. Ireland caught wind of this and wanted her fired, which to me is understandable. I wouldn't want someone operating behind my back like that whom I couldn't trust either. She initially reported to Parcells, so why would she want to report only to the guy who knows little if nothing about football [Ross] rather than the guy Parcells groomed the previous 3 years to take over? Upon realizing Ireland tried to thwart her effort for power and autonomy [you know- since he's the GM and all and as such probably doesn't want to be undermined by anyone], she allied with Philbin to secure even more power and turned our organization into an embarrassing Aponte & Philbin vs Ireland situation.
