As others have mentioned, huge difference between Phillie to Florida and West Coast to Phillie. I'm speaking from experience on this having made similar trips recently.

Yes, hospice care is for terminally ill patients who generally don't have much time. But it can still be a matter of months or even a year or 2.

I'm no Dawn Aponte apologist and I've had as many bad feelings as anyone about her...but his recent attack dog routine on her really affected me because of how overtly he tried to take advantage of latent misogyny amongst (predominantly male) sports readers to paint this almost biblical picture of an evil hag. To me it was too far, and WAY too obvious where it was coming from.

Otherwise I usually try and play nice.

Of course it's not an easy task! But it's just one of those things that should not weigh down a person's life for too long. Joe Philbin took the Miami job, as you mentioned, so he apparently was able to get a hold of himself and think of the greater good for his life and his family, despite everything he went through. What I meant to say is that when a person is in dire need of support it is much harder stay away from them for longer periods of time as opposed to when the person has passed away and they are with you in spirit wherever you go :wink2:
But I get your point about closure and if he wants his father to see him as a GM, then he should strongly consider the option.

Sorry but I don't see it being as dramatic as you do. Norman Braman was the owner of the Eagles and promoted Tom's father, Harry, to President and COO. There's probably a great deal of mutual respect and loyalty between the two families. Now pair that with the whole Norman Braman vs Stephen Ross dilemma.

It most certainly is not outside of the realm of possibility that Gamble getting the GM job here could help swing things locally with Braman, especially when he himself reportedly took public money from the city of Philadelphia years ago.

If a man was such a jerk to Tannehill and his agent in negotiations, got involved in that Philbin alliance fiasco that emasculated the head coach, press conference index cards included, and spent a good part of his time back biting and consolidating power, ratting out Ireland, as much of a jerk as he is, then I'd be equally interested in dumping him as well. It's not that Dawn Aponte is a woman, it's what she's all about. That's just not the kind of person that I'd want working in the Dolphins FO, and my guess is that she'll be a net negative in terms of attracting the best free agent players and the best GM candidates. I can't do much more than laugh at the other poster who actually wants her as the new G.M. That's just plain funny.

because of the beef between he and Ross couldn't we flip that and say he might steer Gamble away from us?

Yeah but to go from Braman worked with his father, to he loved his father, to he knows the Gamble family well, to he loves the Gamble family, to insinuating the possibility of this being in the periphery of argument for the hire, to finally saying, and I quote, "I know that Gamble working for the Dolphins would force Braman to think long and hard about continuing to oppose a measure if it even indirectly hurts Tom Gamble," just strikes me as a few too many assumptions and speculations based on very little. Journalism should not be based on this.

This is something for twitter, not for a Miami Herald blog.

Aponte is your cap specialist. The team has one of the best cap pictures in the league even after last years spending spree.

    Those are the facts, jack.

It sounds like he meant to say "if it even indirectly hurts Norman Braman", not Tom Gamble..... which would make sense.
If he didn't mean to say that then I have no idea what he was trying to convey.

and? You realize our ex GM, as hated as he was, is even more responsible for that right? Who do you think made the decision to have all that cap space accrue in 2013 like it did? Aponte moved money around and helped structure it out but the actual decision itself came from the GM. That's the fact, jack. She doesn't determine who we go after, how much they're worth, how long we want to employ them, how many players we're willing to spend on, or who we're gonna cut to trim the cap.

That is flat out bull ****. Just because someone doesn't like Aponte doesn't make them a sexist.

That actually deeply ****ing offended me as a human being. You are the bigot in this thread, throwing lies around in order to validate your own opinion.

I generally like you, enjoy ypur posts and contributions to the site. However I feel like this is just unfair to say.

I'm a big fan of Tom Gamble but I hope the Miami Dolphins give a LEGIT shot to Jason Licht of the Arizona Cardinals.

Prior to the start of the season (around August 1st), I went on a big rant about how the over on 5.5 wins for the Arizona Cardinals seemed like free money. Stealing. Easy.

My argument was personnel based. I probably should have focused a bit more attention on the 2012 Coach of the Year being hired there, and it was a source of optimism, and I think I even cited how new head coaches always seem to get you an average of a 2 win improvement the next year... but like everyone else I wanted to see what Bruce Arians would do.

Anyway my argument was primarily personnel based. I liked what they were doing there. I still think Tyrann Mathieu could bite them in the butt off the field eventually but on the field he's a nice contributor. Karlos Dansby was a coup. Jason Abraham was a coup. Andre Ellington was a coup. For all of Carson Palmer's faults he's ridiculously better than the group they had in 2012. I thought Eric Winston would help there a lot, along with solid guys like Rashard Mendenhall and Yeremiah Bell and Jerraud Powers.

Point being the team looked to my eyes like it had completely been made over from a personnel standpoint, and they actually did even better than I thought they did. They still have untapped resources like Alex Okafor, Javier Arenas, Jaron Brown and Kevin Minter waiting in the wings.

Jason Licht was a big part of all of that turnover. He came back to the Arizona Cardinals in May of 2012 which was after the 2012 draft and after 2012 free agency. So the team was pretty much set when he arrived in 2012. He wasn't responsible for that disaster. By January 2013 he was being promoted to Vice President of Player Personnel. And that is precisely when they executed such an excellent offseason that took them from 5-11 to 10-6.

And the guy has Dolphins roots. That has to count for SOMETHING, right?

LOL, OK. It's clear your experience as a gay male has left you jilted and thinking any opinion against someone who happens to be either female, gay, or minority has to involve some sort of agenda, as if there's no way they could be disliked on their own merit. And for the record I've NOT ONCE made a deriding comment suggesting women are inferior or have no place in the professional world. Nearly 50,000 posts and you won't find a single one. Ditto for homosexuality or race. My wife was has worked her way up nurse management into hospital management and has 3 degrees. She didn't achieve that in her apron while chained to our kitchen and laundry room.

Yup, this is one of the most offensive, disrespectful displays toward another poster I've ever witnessed on this site. What's most bothersome isn't that he said it, it's that I've now lost every bit of respect for him and am now annoyed that I ever gave him any in the first place. It's funny that he read all my comments about Aponte, none of which were deriding toward women, but conveniently skipped over the one referencing my aunt whom I grew up with gobs of respect and admiration for BECAUSE of how strong and successful she was/is as a professional woman.

Yet we are sitting here and the worst thing to happen to the Dolphins franchise since Wanspeil is gone.

Plus, half of what you are saying is conjecture, based on third party accounts.

Aponte should be praised for having enough of Ross' ear to win the power battle and clear this franchise of the stench Ireland left.

98% of Dolphin fans tired of Ireland and his piss poor drafting and FA choices. Top that with forcing Jonathan Martin on Philbin, and the case for his dismissal is even stronger. Now that he is gone, people are finding reasons to be upset. I'm glad someone in the organization had the gall to call him out for being the sniveling snake that he has been.

Would you be happier if Ireland won the power struggle and we had another 3 years of his stellar drafting? What aspect of the team would fail next year? Last year we had no WR's. This year no OL. What would 2014 had brought? No DL or linebackers?

OK since when is does the Miami media get so much say as to who is hired and who is fired. I think this crap that the media s spewing needs to stop.

it sure sounds like Armando the dufus is trying to run the franchise . somebody out to remind him that Omar Kelly that its none of their business of who is coming and who is going.

As a Cap specialist she structures the contracts in order to manage the the impact of those agreements in future years.
Therefore her involvement in any negotiations would be about contract structure not talent evaluation.

It's funny how so many complain about the reporters, no matter the topic, but go back to reading them again, only to be upset again...........only to complain again........etc..........
Why read it, if you already know you don't like them. Maybe if people quit reading the junk, he might have to move elsewhere......

Though I'm not complaining since I got what I wanted, you have to think this GM opening would have been even more coveted had we fired Ireland last offseason, setting the new GM up with 5 picks in the first 3 rounds and all that cap space, which Ireland did virtually nothing with.

I wish we had as many picks last year this year. We just have 1-7 right? Maybe we can trade down in the first and still grab one of the top tackles.
