I admit that I was right...I said he couldn't get it done when he had elite skill players littered all over his offense...I said he would slump three years ago when he lost some pivitol players..oh did he slump..

You think that's great...I think it's pretty good..you think you can win a championship, I say it can't...

Who's been right or wrong thus far glassman.

You've been wrong and you still are wrong. You think he's not great, yet he's playing great. How can you possibly think you're right here?

The dude in his first year as a starter led his team to the Super Bowl with a hi level of play, once in the Super Bowl, threw for 300 yards, ran for 70 with a 9 yard average and posted a rating over 90, and put up over 30 points against a great defense..he did his part.

Your using particular instances that you see in the present to cloud your vision of what the skillset is capable of in the future..bad move..

Do you agree with me on the investment oppurtunity a built to spec 12 man advantage OB2 offers our two programs ?

I'm on record saying he wouldn't get it done with three great players on his offense, all in their prime..I'm also on record to a tee about his recent struggles over a two season period..

I think where your getting confused is the context of how I'm debating this player..you say he's great, I have different standards of the word, I'm not saying he sucks, I'm saying he's proven not to be great

Like all the other debates we've had over him, agree to disagree. I feel he's great. You don't. It is what it is.

DJ, Sproles is not going to the HOF. Not even close. V Jax probably doesnt get close given how many good WR's there were in this era and how far down the list he is (anything outside the top 5 at a position rarely garners any interest, even outside the top 3 you have a very small chance). LT and Gates will get in. Regardless though, Rivers was also snake bitten in a few ways on those teams.

For one he had to beat Manning, Ben & Brady. Thats the modern day version of Murderer's Row. I mean, in prior generations you won the whole thing if you beat just 1 of those caliber players.

Secondly if you review Rivers post-season resume, listed here http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...players-with-the-worst-playoff-resumes/page/7 hes 3-4 with 3 solid playoff performances then had today as well where he was solid. Not saying hes been brilliant in the postseason but he is a top 10 QB imo. If you put the players around him, you can win. Since Schottenheimer left the Chargers have gotten progressively worse. Do the math. Good coach...continuously 12-/13-3. Insert Norv Turner...consistently mediocre team that got progressively worse.

Thirdly...4500 yards, 32/11 TD/INT 8.2YPA and 4 GW drives this year. Hes a top 10 QB again. Back half of the top 10 but top ten nonetheless. Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Newton, Luck, Ben, Rivers and Wilson. Those were the top 10 QBs this year (In no articular order) imo.

Lastly, Super Bowls are a team accomplishment. I never have nor will I ever buy the BS argument that a football player cant be great without a ring. Its different then in other sports because you dont get to play both sides of the ball...especially as a QB. You cant win unless the other 52 players do their jobs. So to lay it on that Rivers hasnt won a SB is garbage. Plain and simple. I hate everything about that argument because the game doesnt work that way.

Right but that was your argument! That Cam Newton wasnt as good as Kaepernick and hasnt gotten it done in a big game. How come you have this excuse for Kaepernick but not for Phillip Rivers? There is a lot of inconsistency in the argument.

My statement was Kaepernick is not a top 10 QB and his play is generally uninspiring. I said that once teams took the read option away from him, hes been very mediocre. I think Newton is Kaepernick on steroids. Hes just better in every aspect...Kap MIGHT be faster which I could care less about and he MIGHT have a better velocity to his pass. Thats it.

As to your question, Explain further.

There's really not a team that sticks out above all.. Either of these teams can win the Super Bowl... I want next week to come already..

I don't like the Patriots and I definitely don't want them in the Super Bowl, I especially don't like all the help they get from referees... But my god... no Aaron Hernandez and Gronkowski, Belicheck and Brady are definitely the best in the business.

I said it in another thread or maybe it was this thread before the wild card began, that the one match up I don't want is San Francisco vs New England... Those are two teams I just can't stand watching... but it looks like it can happen.. Hoping for Seattle vs Denver instead.

Not me. I want NE to win. The SB is always 10x more fun with the Pats. Gives me a vested interest in the game. Plus, I want to see Belichick cry like a b*tch again.

there is so much contradiction in this post I don't know where to start Matt..

You said and I quote.."if you put good players around him, you can win"...that's what you said..

Well, I'm gonna make this one short and sweet...they didn't put "good" players around him, your right.... they put 3 elite players at their positions around him.....two of those being the hall of fame type, and 1 would be going if there was a third down back category..

I'm not sure you can realistically expect to have more talent around you than that..and he couldn't beat the best...

Sorry...one appearance and loss in an afc conference champ game is not the definition of great..

Getting to one with Danny amendola and Julien Edleman, without your two elite players (Gronk, Welker) IS great.

I'm not a stat guy but I would guess a lot of his statistical prowess he had was from checking down to LT and Sproles..

You know what's a cool story..

The two best mobile Qbs against the two best pocket Qbs ..

Talk about a debate..man that's good stuff..old school vrs new school.

Some thought the new school would never get this far..read option is a fad..he's too short to get it done..Kaepernick's release is too elongated..you must train your Qb to be a pocket Qb..Kaepernick isn't smart enough to read a defense.

None of it matters..There is a 6th sense as to know when to run and give up your read and have the precise athleticism to escape..it is an elite skill, and it is very important in winning football..Plus, they both have elite intangibles.

"Colin Kaepernick was phenominal in that football game"

    Trent Dilfer.

Walks thru a few plays that were pivitol in the game visually demonstrating a Qb moving thru his progressions, manipulating defenders, and throwing darts amidst a constricted pocket.

So Matt, your telling me you would take rivers over Kaepernick?

Sorry to interupt you flow but I managed to watch SF defeat The Panthers last night. Two questions.
    1. Why was the SF play called for roughing the QB in the 4th quarter. Smacked of, well not to put to finer point on it, cheating (allegedly). Just why was thins called??? I saw nothing. Neither did the SF coach. Very poor.
    2. A comment was made towards the end that The Panthers franchise was "not ready for such an important game". Seriously!!!!?

Not sure I would say that. THe fact that he's doing that is a sign he is worried about the damage from a concussion and that he hopes that this will protect him. I suspect he'll come back next year with the same kind of helmet and hope to fend off more concussions.

I would take Rivers over Kaepernick and I wouldn't even have to think about it. As a pure passer, Kaepernick is nothing more than average. Until he proves he can put a team on his shoulders I'm not buying into him as some great QB.

    Rivers is miles better.

hmm... predictions? well after going 4 and 0 last week in the sports betting dept... one might want to listen to what I have to say :shifty:.... or not...

Broncos are favored by 5... I think that's a little generous... and I'll take the Pats and the points. Two fairly even teams.... two teams playing without some superstars due to injury. I think the Broncos will pull it out in the end, but it'll be closer than the experts think... Denver 31, Cheaters 28

Seahawks are favored by 3... this is a tough one to gauge. Both teams thrive on their defenses.. which offense is going to screw the pooch and make too many turnovers? Which kicking game is better? 49ers are attempting to become one of only a few teams to make it to the SB having won three straight road games. It's hard to do... and Seattle will be the toughest test. This is like choosing between sleeping next to a turd or a pile of puke. There are no winners. Seattle 13 SF 10. so I guess you should take the 3 points since the juice is on the giving side.
