GM's candidates questioning position: Farmer head of the pack

Lacy should of been totin the rock this year.

 

We need a back to replace Thomas, not Miller. Lamar Miller is a starting caliber back in this league.

 

Dont forget about Jimmy Johnson, 9-23 his first two years in Dallas. Send the bum back to Coral Gables...

 

Only on a team w/ a stellar O line. He cannot break tackles. Plenty of get but doesn't appear to be much will in that guy.

 

Well we didn't win with this team this year and considering the free agents we have I don't see the roster being in great shape. Ireland didn't exactly set up the next GM. Doesn't mean we can't find a GM but this isn't an ideal job and the pressure from fans and ownership to actually contend with this team might scare off smart GMs with other prospects. Sorry but it is what it is and if you don't see it that way thats fine.

Gawd, I hope we hire Xanders. I would not be too disappointed with Gamble or Licht. I think CK is spot on though about the friendship between the Gamble family and Norman Braman, and the hatred between Braman and Ross, will squash any chance of Tom Gamble being the one.

Xanders would a VERY exciting hiring.

I kind of disagree. I think contracts off the books make it more attractive. Now as a GM instead of being stuck with the roster, you can pick and choose which players to bring back.

 

I don't think a new GM will be all that happy about potentially losing Grimes and Starks not to mention having to replace the entire Oline outside of Pouncey. We aren't in a horrible, horrible position but the kicker is that any GM hired is expected to have us in the playoffs and contending the first year. So having a lot of holes to fill might not be a great thing when you are expected to make a push at the title in year one. Most GMs walk into jobs with bad rosters but they usually have 3-4 years to set things right. Its not the worst position to be in but we aren't in that great of shape either and the immediate pressure is going to be tough on a new GM.

 

The question that must be asked about Ray Farmer is do we have any objective indications of a "job well done" so to speak. What exactly has he done that he can hang his hat on? We know he had very little draft experience prior to joining Cleveland. That was one reason he was not hired by Kansas City as their General Manager when they got rid of Scott Pioli. He's admitted his lack of experience scouting college players and the draft.

What he was in Kansas City was the Director of Pro Personnel. He was in charge of furnishing the scouting reports on NFL players that led to free agent acquisitions. So I think that's a good place to start. Let's see if KC made some worthwhile free agent acquisitions while he was in charge of that department:

Yea I'd take Vital over Farmer easily.

 

Farmer and Xanders were together in Atlanta like 10 years ago, so it does make sense, but there are better GM candidates than Farmer.
