We have that QB in Ryan Tannehill Now we have to figure out how to develop him with the coaching staff we have Like last season, quarterback gurus are in high demand, from Jim Caldwell in the Motor City to Ken Whisenhunt in Rocky Top. In our nation's capital, Robert Griffin III has been paired with Jay Gruden while Tom Brady's former tutor, Bill O'Brien, has been tasked with fixing Houston's quarterback mess. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000313124/article/qb-gurus-in-high-demand-for-coaching-openings
Sort of, think a lot of our issues centered on poor scheme fits on the offensive line and Tannehill lack of adaptability to Wallace. Personally, I thought Gilbride did a helluva a job with Eli Manning.
Gilbride has always been underrated and ended up as a scapegoat so many times. But I'd think he's done coaching.
When you write stuff around the article, that is your opinion. If you feel differently, add it and people won't keep on thinking it is your opinion.
Lots of QB's in the draft this year, if one happens to fall into our lap in the 3rd or 4th I'd like to think a new GM and OC would take em as a security blanket/project.
Those aren't wounded ducks... that's timing. 2 totally different things... A lot of the "deep balls" to Wallace were passes that were 60+ yards in the air. And even then they weren't ducks... just poorly timed passes where the location/placement was off. He over threw Wallace almost as much as he under threw him. Arm strength wasn't the issue...
The only wounded duck anyone saw last year for Miami was Dion Jordan. Tip your bartenders and waitresses...
I agree. Tannehill may be the answer at the QB position but he needs to prove it next year. He needs to be more consistent and he also needs to learn to throw a better deep ball. Hopefully with a better OL and better RB's, along with a new OC, Tannehill can finally step up and show he is the right QB for the job. If he doesn't take a big step forward next year, that will probably cost Philbin his job as the head coach and the new GM will be looking for a new QB in the 2015 draft.
Ryan Tannehill had by far the best season of any quarterback than anyone since Marino, in only his second year! Have some faith, he will continue to develop. Kid is smart.
I think RT needs to drastically prove on 2 things, the long ball and pocket presence. I'm not sure how improving pocket presence works. Not sure that can be coached. But if he had a better longball, he and Wallace would be in the pro-bowl. That, I hope he works on and can improve.
I think his pocket presence was better in the second half of he season. He also held on to the ball much better. Amen.
How many QBs have ever posted his kind of numbers after being sacked 58 times? How many finished the full season, minus 1 drive? I could be wrong, but I don't think it's very common at all. This kid can not be rattled...ice cold. Of his many attributes I like, that one's my favorite. Edit: Marino's highest sack year was 1992, 28 sacks (less than half of Tanny's), a year in which he was slightly higher in passer rating (85), had only a few hundred more yards, and a slightly lower completion % than Tannehill this year. Just to put it in Dolphins context.
You couldn't ask for a better base to build off than Ryan in today's NFL. He has arm, he has legs (not even talking about Lauren), guy's got a brain in there too. He is humble, professional, modest and quiet. Just a good guy from an image standpoint. Seriously though? He was killed 58 times at the line this year and posted....3900 yds and 24 TD for 17 INTs? Huge improvement over last year and that is while losing Long and Reggie Bush....holy cow. What more does this kid have to do? Throw to himself for the TD?
He can get there with a line and a good coach to help him develop. He just hasn't been able to learn that part of his game yet. Hard to do that when you got guys draped all over you trying to kill you
I think the questions arise from his reluctance to use his physical ability to extend plays. People see players like Wilson succeed behind worse OL protection and wonder why RT didn't have as much success(obviously there were other factors there for Wilson, but fans don't usually see all that). Personally I'm a huge RT fan and think that a huge part of that has been the coaching he received not only in the pros but in college as well. I think that at this point Sherman was a progress stopper for RT. I expect/hope that Lazor will help develop that part of RT's game. Foles is a less athletic QB and ran very little in college (IIRC), but ran much more than RT in his first year in the pros.
It goes back to coaching. If you have a suspect line, you coach the kid up to get rid of the ball quick. We run short routes, quick read's etc. Plus Tanne is an athlete. 1, 2 ,3 read....run. That's it - simple. Would have definitely masked our atrocious line.
