Text from member of Miami's staff on Lazor: "Good coach. Smart family man who works well w/ others. Been with great mentors. We're excited."

That is about as vanilla as it gets, what else is a member of Miami's staff going to say? Smart family man, works well with others? Been with great mentors? Translation- this dude is inexperienced and I have nothing good to say that's more concrete, definitive or factual. Lazor might work out fine, but I'd hardly call this a premium signing.

Now the new GM could very well have a head coach who he doesn't want, a new OC that he doesn't want and a power hungry capologist in Aponte who undermined the last GM, apparently kisses the owner's a** every chance that she gets and wants to answer to the bid daddy owner, not the GM. Ross should have cleaned house and started fresh with a new GM. I'm elated that Ireland is gone, but I still think that Philbin and Aponte are net negatives. Philbin is weak, has a wishy washy personality that clearly lack in terms of motivational skills and Aponte is multi-faceted in terms of being a pain in the a**. Serious dysfunction in the house imo, not exactly inviting to GM candidates.

I like the hire. He has seen what Chip Kelly does. That's a huge, huge plus in my eyes.

Well he is coming from a team that had one of the best offenses in the league, a great running game and passing game, their Qb played at an MVP caliber level, I like this hire. We need someone with modern concepts and the ability to groom talent at the QB and RB position. Good move, hopefully it works out. I like this guy for Tannehill mostly.

Lazor has coached under some great football minds - Dan Reeves, Joe Gibbs, Mike Holmgren, and (maybe) Chip Kelly.

Lazor is an Ivy Leaguer. Went to Cornell. And like me, he's a Pennsylvania boy.

Eagles had nearly a 50-50 run-pass split in 2013. Their offense ranked second in yards (417.3) and fourth in points (27.6).

I really like this hire. Younger guy maybe with some really fresh ideas. Hopefully he brings Tanne to the next level. Barry Jackson said he did a solid job as OC of UVA, so he has at least been an OC before. I'm happy with this and as a plus he has a great last name.

While I know he has been a Quaterback coach and the Eagles did a great job with thier QB's last year I looked up the record of The University Of Virginia where Bill Lazer was the Offensives coordinator from 2010-2012 Seasons and i wasnt very impressed with their record and or production. Hope this has zero reference on us but he didn't do a great job. Against ranked teams he did horrible. -03 in 2010, 1-2 in 2011, and 0-0 in 2012.

    Straight Record:

    2010- 4-8
    2011- 8-5
    2012- 4-8

    3 years 16-21

While this is nice he wasnt the one designing the offense. He was a QB coach and we have one already. He's going to be responsible for alot more than 2-3 players it's a big new world with many more headaches putting this offense on the board..especially with a tough schedule this year...

Mine too. When I thought he was gone to Detroit I was feeling down about the OC search. I thought Kubiak could work, but I wasn't thrilled about him and I wasn't thrilled about any other name I'd heard. I felt better about the GM search b/c there were at least three names I was thrilled with and three more I thought could be good choices. For the OC I really wanted a young guy who could bring some new ideas to Philbin. I thought that was what we were missing with Sherman. I loved Philly's run concepts so I hope that Lazor brings some of that here. I also loved how well the back-up QBs had done at all of his previous stints. They all seemed like career highlights for those QBs. That speaks highly of how well the QB coach is preparing them. Now if we can get Xander or Licht at GM this offseason will be off top a great start.

Lazor, the Eagles quarterback coach, also previously held that position with Seattle and Atlanta, and was an offensive coordinator at two colleges: Buffalo and Virginia. After joining the Cavaliers in 2010, Lazor immediately turned around an offense that ranked last in the ACC in total yardage the previous year. In his first season at Virginia, the Cavaliers ranked third in the conference, averaging 404.8 yards per game. In 2011, they were fourth in the ACC with 399.8 yards per game.

To be fair he was the OC not the HC and UVA is hardly a powerhouse.

He might be making a subtle reference to religion here. Oops, the forbidden topic, yikes. Both Philbin and Lazor are very devout catholics. Lazor has openly said in interviews that he bases his life on prayer.

I'd settle for using the strengths of the Qb for starters...we most certainly did Not do that the last two years...reps using those strengths was not in proportion to those strengths.

Xanders and Lazor would be great hires. Love that he can bring some of that creativity he has experienced down to Miami. Look at what Kelly did with DeSean Jackson. Just by osmosis Lazor should be able to bring some of that with Mike Wallace. Great hire.

This hiring should also light a fire under Zach Taylor's *** too, with on of his bosses Lazor being a QB coach, who won't be cutting him the slack that Sherm had.

It'll be interesting to see if Taylor is retained. I assumed that the team was waiting on the OC decision before deciding or perhaps letting the new OC decide Taylor and possibly Turner's fate.
