In all honesty, I'm intrigued and excited to see what new blood can bring to the Offense.
He might not be proven so to speak, but he's not a retread in philosophy which is very refreshing.

My only rant is why a new GM was not put in place before this move.

I can't agree with that. Jackson had more first downs this year [60] than his average number of receptions his first 5 years [55]. That's incredible. I agree he would've put up better stats previously but I can't see anything from his past that suggests being as efficiently productive as he was this year. It's one thing to say he would've been better, but it's another to say he'd have elite seasons. And BTW a statistician would look at Jackson's first five years, notice the drastic difference in year 6 production, and then rather than dismiss it as happenstance would likely be more concerned about the reason for variation. I'm guessing the first thing he'd ask is if there was a change in variables in 2013, and he would discover that answer is yes- a new coaching staff, or more specifically the addition of an offensive minded guru. From there I'm guessing he'd watch the film to see if it supports the addition of Kelly & Co, to which he'd notice how the offensive design and play-calling did an outstanding job of putting Jackson in a position to produce, including doing a fantastic job of getting him the ball in space [markedly better than year's past].

But his stats being higher have nothing to do with his catch percentage and first down percentage being significantly higher. Previously he was thought to be more of a vertical specialist, but now this year he suddenly catches 61% of his targets and converts a whopping 51% of his targets for first downs. If you told the entire Philly fan base last year that he'd be among the league leaders in first downs and first down percentage in 2013, they would've probably looked at you like you're crazy.

It's interesting that Lazor had gone from Joe Gibb's Air Coryel to Holmgren's WCO and it looks like he had some input in adding the vertical passing into Kelly's/Shurmur's WCO. He could be the answer to our deep ball problems.

Looking back the QBs he had coached in Washington and Seattle, like Mark Brunell, Jason Campbell, Seneca Wallace and Matt Hasselbeck there are some mixed results.

My guess is that RT would thrive in that environment since he's reportedly a film rat. While at TAMU I thought RT made exceptional strides in terms of his mechanics and footwork, but my impression was that it didn't continue these last two seasons. It didn't seem like there was anybody on the coaching side that was focusing on the details. IMO that's something all players (except maybe Peyton Manning) need.

I'm guessing you didn't read them. Here is every post that mentions religion between your thread starter and your response that alleging there was a HATE, God Hating and Christian bashing.

I agree with all your points except the fourth, I don't think being a man of faith increases character whatsoever.

I do. Not always. "Elite character" was also part of it.

Its fine. I'm just not religious in terms of organized religion, and I've given back more to the needy and such than 95% of the people I know who are into it.

I always get slightly offended when people imply "being a man of faith" somehow makes you a better person. Some of the worst people I know are "men of faith" but I'd never make a broad assumption about them.

You either have high character or you don't, and beliefs IMO have nothing to do with it.

Agreed. There are just as many poor character people among people of faith as anywhere else. And just as many good character people who are and aren't people of faith.

A man of character does not always a good football player make. Very little correlation in that regard.

But you sold me on the red-shirt year.

Tons of catholic priests out there that are men of faith...

    Sorry.

Then there are those that like to touch little boys.....

I'm with Alex44 & others, I don't understand why "man of faith" or "a persons religion" has anything to do with a person being high character or not.

This pisses me off when people crutch on that. Going to church or being a man of faith doesn't mean you are a great person and it certainly does not mean you are good at football or anything else. Jameis Winston was boasting about how God made it possible for Florida State to win that game against Auburn? Does that mean God is a Florida State fan? I really honestly wish people would leave religion out the conversation about peoples character makeup, and keep it in the church during their worshiping time. I live in the bible belt of the south, so stuff like this effects me on a daily basis. I've not gotten jobs because of my non denomination faith as they put it. Trust me, I've met plenty of wife beating, lying, cheating, philandering scumbags that go to church and boast about being a person of faith. F' outta here with that noise man....Jamar Taylor will either be a player for us or he wont. His religious beliefs have nothing to do with that in my opinion.

I agree, it's almost an escape route for people to take in my opinion. Become a man of faith and boast of the good Lord and all will be forgiven about raping a woman Jameis Winston.

None of those qualify for your over reaction. None of those are more than someone saying they disagree with your opinion and/or pointing to examples of people of faith who have shown poor character. Your claim that I am being dishonest has zero merit. You are claiming insult where none occurred. You over reacted and everybody can see it there in black and white. Just let it go.

I like it. Glad it wasn't Shanahan, would have liked Kubiak more but this is an underrated hire. Lazor was very hands on to the development of Foles so I hope he does the same for Tannehill.

As I mentioned in another thread and when the search started, Lazor was my top choice. Didn't care much for Shanahan. I think Kubiak would have been acceptable, but I didn't think he would bring as many new ideas as Lazor.

I see this as a high risk/high reward hire. Lots of potential upside; lots of potential downside. Safer choices were out there but those choices probably don't bring the new fresh ideas that I believe Lazor will bring. The lack of no NFL OC experience scares me a bit but all awesome NFL OC's had someone hire them when they had none. This will be interesting to watch how it plays out.

More on the job training at the Miami DOlphins, the place for on the job training for coaches. I'm not sure why so many of you are excited. Foles is an overly conservative QB if you've watched any of the Eagles games, you'll see he checks down more than Chad Henne.

When your check down is the best back in the league, it's not a bad decision.

The Eagles, and I haven't done any research on this, probably completed more deep passes than we did last year (this year?).

Probably b/c we've had plenty of OCs as of late with "experience". Sherman, Henning, etc. Many, including myself, have wanted a young guy with fresh ideas and offensive concepts vs stale concepts and retread coaches.

I understand not bring entirely comfortable with an OC that doesn't have NFL OC experience. It's a valid concern. But, you'd have to agree that the OCs we've hired in the past that were plenty experienced weren't great for us either. So, I wouldn't say the experience factor will be what determines whether he will succeed or fail... since experience hasn't proven success for us.

For those who want to be negative you could talk about the unusual numberof terrible/bad defenses the Eagles faced this year. Skins, Boys and Giants = 6 games. Raiders, Bears, Vikings makes 9. Lions, Packers? Broncos, Chargers?

16 games isn't a good sample size to begin with. Let's see what happens in games 17-32.

The Philadelphia passing offense has consistently finished around the 10th ranked and we've consistently finished below the 20th ranked. As OC of the Vir Cavs 2010-2012 his total offenses also finished in the top 3rd of NCAA teams. I don't even want to mention rushing offense because of the disparity of talent between us and the Eagles - finished 1st in rushing yards last year.

There's truth, lies, and statistics which you can make say anything you want. Is there anyway you can get the YAC on Foles and see what your statistics actually prove? His net YPA is lower than Tannehills I'll bet. Where does PFF rank Foles?

If you are insinuating Henning was worse as an OC in Miami than Sherman was, you would be incorrect. Results wise, Sherman was worse. Henning's results in 2008 and 2009 were better than what Sherman did. Heck, even Brian Daboll in 2011 had better results than Sherman.

Or, you could look at it like this- who else has had a season like Foles did their first season starting in a pro league?? (in other words- guys like Kurt Warner, Warren Moon and Doug Flutie don't count) The only one that comes to mind in the last 30 years is our own Danny boy. I agree that it would be too early to anoint him something special, but you can't exactly be hot garbage and waltz into the NFL and have a season like he did either.

Foles' 7.88 net yard per attempt ranked 2nd behind Manning..... and 11th best of the past 25 years. Tannehill was 5.44 BTW.

There's no other way to interpret Foles leading the NFL in pass attempts over 20 yards other than he led the NFL in attempts over 20 yards, and ditto for ranking 2nd in net yards per attempt...... but feel free to continue arguing he's an extremely conservative check downer.
