Khan, Xanders, Dawson are not finalists, per LaCanfora. (Hickey had a strong interview) https://twitter.com/JasonLaCanfora
wouldn't Farmer be the no brainer hire here, if these 2 are the finalists for the job? Gaine is likely staying here regardless. 2 finalists, one is already under contract here so you hire the other guy and you get to keep both.
Based on what I read he may be the most qualified. People wrongly associate him with Ireland, as one that would make the same mistakes, a disciple of his. I don't believe that. In addition, who could work better within the current organization structure than him.
If these two are the finalists why wasn't the decision made sooner? It appeared to me that they were waiting for a certain someone that was working for a playoff team. seems odd.
Gaine certainly wouldn't be an exciting move, but like all the other candidates, hes probably just as qualified.
Gaine will get the job, PERFECT. Ireland gets fired and Aponte and Philbin get their puppet. This organization is basically being run by Dawn Aponte. We are totally, completely ****ed as long as Stephen Ross owns this franchise. No one can say anything that will convince me other wise. **** am I glad my Boston Bruins are good and relevant and well run. Gives me a good comparable to this rubbish organization.
I actually think Gaine has been pretty involved with our drafting the last few years, which scares the **** out of me. The one good thing in my opinion is that Gaine will get less time at GM than an outside candidate would get. If we give Philbin two or three more years and it doesn't work out i'd fully expect us to clean house and start with a new GM and coach at the same time if Gaine is our guy. If we hire Farmer he would likely get Philbin for two or three more years and then get to pick his own head coach afterwards. So in a sense it would look like this: Gaine: would have 2 to 3 years to right the ship Farmer: would have roughly 5 years to right the ship
And to back up my bolded statement I just want to remind people about a little information I previously dug up on Gaine: http://www.bucsnation.com/2013/10/21/4847228/a-new-buc-hope-believe-it-or-not-your-3-seasons-from-a-lombardi This N+2 theory is probably why we drafted Dion Jordan and two CBs while totally neglecting our OL in the 2013 draft.... Scary. On October 15th, 2013 at 8:00pm Armando Salguero tweeted: Sorry I don't know how to link tweets lol. Anyways, this indicates Gaine and Philbin have worked together (obviously) but assuming Philibin thinks highly of Gaine he will be given a shot at GM. This would allow for a seamless transition during the season. Also this could help end the saga of only changing a GM or coach. If Gaine and Philbin turn things around awesome, if we continue to suck in 2014 and possibly 2015 we can fire Gaine and Philbin and hire a GM and coach together (which usually results in the most success). It's really a win-win situation
Funny, I didnt realize you fellas sat in on the interviews to make the determination they already picked the wrong guy. I know the team bombed the last two games but geez this board would make it seem like the team isn't at least trying to right some wrongs from last season. I mean weren't we all calling for Ireland's and Sherman's head? And going after Aponte as the problem after Jeff Darlington wrote an article on her saying she is one of the better up and coming minds in the business, as well as being the person who put the team in such a good salary cap situation.
The thing is, we really have no idea whether Gaine or Farmer will do a good, bad, or ugly job until they are on the job for three or more years. That's just the God's honest truth and claiming anything otherwise is silly. I mean, how many GM hires around the NFL - when they were first made - have you gone and said, "you know, that's a can't miss right there - good hire." I remember when Dimitroff was hired by Atlanta the same time Tuna came here. I remember thinking we got the better hire. I mean, didn't we all?? And look how that turned out. Gaine could be the next coming of a younger Bill Polian for all we know, or worse than Ireland. Same for Farmer. I say, Ross should hire the guy who seems to have the right ideas, and best plan - then give him time to execute said plan. In the meantime, getting upset about this guy or that guy (when in all honestly, most of us had never heard of half these guys before, and if we did, it was extremely casual) is just plain silly.
farmer seems qualified and from what i read about him i would not mind him getting the job, if gaines gets it i will be pissed.
rewatch this season... you sit the #3 overall pick the majority of the season, and you pick 2 CBs in the top 3 rounds and they hardly play while your line gets abused all year.
If those 2 are indeed the finalists, I have to admit that I have been a bit underwhelmed by this GM search.
Maybe his philosphy is that you draft n+2 while you fill immediate needs via FA, which means that this year he would go crazy on OL and DT during free agency and draft maybe LBs, WRs, I don't know (Honestly how can you know what needs we will have in two years??)
Near as I can tell LaConfora has been wrong on almost everything so I'm going to hold off on believing anything.
So basically we had every other personal guy come down to Miami and jump through hoops and we are going to go with the guy we had all along. That is just great. Being a Dolphins and Mets fan I have thanked the good Lord everyday for the Devils, but even they are going through a rough spot now and being Rutgers is my college team I'm living through a miserable sports nightmare.
It's rather simple, you look at when contracts expire. That is exactly what we did last year... We were weak at WR, CB, and OL and we signed guys from those positions and drafted guys with the N+2 rule. All I am saying is if people are expecting a big change if Gaine is hired as our GM I'd laugh; it would likely lead to just more of the same.
So much conflicting information out there in the 24/7 need to break news and some with bias at that. Let me know when Ross Hires the GM and i can make my mind up then ~
yes but if we adn't failed on the Jon Martin pick, we'd have been in great position. That's entirely on ireland. The idea makes a lot of sense to me, you just have to draft well.
