Farmer would be a okay hire, my point is we could have done so much better. As for Gaine getting the job, that would make me extremely unhappy.
Let's not forget guys, Gaines is the sexiest candidate by far. And I mean that in the literal, although no homo, sense of the word.
Eh you know what, I think maybe it would be a good hire after all. If next season they **** the bed you completely clean house top to bottom, and start the GM interviewing process first.
Please explain how this set-up would be a bad thing. In a business environment, trust is everything. I'm very intrigued by Xanders' use of advanced analytics but I really don't see how any of the candidates interviewed or bypassed bring much more to the table than Gaine.
Triple fist bump. Any positive reviews of the Dolphin brass at this juncture is a product of something far less than blind faith. It is delusional.
They'd likely bring a new system, new philosophies, new ideas, and importantly structure. Gaine has been within the Dolphins organization for 6 years, prior to that he was the Dallas Cowboys' Assistant Director of Pro Scouting (2005-07) under Bill Parcels and Jeff Ireland. So for nearly 10 years this guy has been under the same people watching and learning and people expect a change from what has already been going on here? Seriously? The guy has 15 total years in NFL front offices and nearly the last 10 years were spent with the same people and you all think things will change? Maybe the players we choose will change, but the system will remain. If you think Ireland was a poor evaluator of talent then maybe we will get better results with Gaine at the helm, that being said Gaine was considered Irelands "right hand man." If that is the case then you're not crediting (or better yet discrediting) Gaine with the fact that we are in this situation. Wake up people.
Additionally, you almost have to wonder if this was Ross' intention this whole time. Why have we interviewed 7 candidates and sought many more interviews with other potential GMs while most teams only interview 3 or 4 guys for the position. The whole thing, as of now, seems like a grand show put on for the fans to look like they did their due diligence while they knew all along they wanted to promote Gaine. Then shortly we will hear an announcement and press conference saying stuff like, "we had the best candidate under our nose/in house" or "after a through process we have decided Gaine is the right guy to lead us to the promise land." What could be the worst part is potentially alienating ourselves from potential future GMs when/if we need to hire another one in the near future.
Yep would make it easy to take a "win or die" approach to 2014 I HATE giving up on seasons, we do have Tannehill now, which changes the usual Dolphins "spit/duct tape/magic coordinator" approach we've seen for 15 yrs or so It's all about Tannehill
if gaines is selected then their was no reason to fire ireland, better have the real deal(albeit ****ty) original instead of his minion. picking gaines is just another year in the ireland regime.
Anybody got the updated tally on bull **** reports / errant reports from this guy so far? Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
What in their history makes u think they will "clean house"?...Who ever is hired they will get a 3 year deal...if the Dolphins crap the bed next season Ross will have Philbin fired and keep the newly hired GM to start what Ross will think is a fresh start. And probably promote Lazor to HC.
Being a Dolphins and Mets fan I have thanked the good Lord everyday for the Devils, but even they are going through a rough spot now and being Rutgers is my college team I'm living through a miserable sports nightmare.[/QUOTE] Dolphins?Mets fan here as well. Ofcourse Harvey had to get hurt for the year, otherwise we'd atleast have an exciting young rotation to watch while the Wilpons wasted that talent with a piss poor offense. Atleast Ross wants to win, he just doesn't seem to know how to do it. Wilpons don't want or know how to win.
It's so funny to me that fans think they know who are good and bad candidates. How would anyone that has never met these guys and was not in the room to see who they liked and didn't like know whether a candidate is qualified or not. Would I like to see them hire a candidate that comes from a winning organization? Sure. Are all candidates that come from winning organizations good candidates, and all candidates that come from mediocre or losing teams bad candidates? Not at all. How did Pioli work out in KC? He came from the Patriots dynasty. How is Trent Baalke doing in SF? He came from a Washington Redskins organization that went 26-38 in his time there, and was promoted to GM in SF after the Niners went a combined 37-59 in his time as regional scout, director of personnel, and VP of player personnel there in San Francisco before his promotion.
Well it's impossible to find out who's a good candidate or not until you hire and then a few years down the line you see what the results are. As I said before, Ireland sounded "good" when he first came in, then the following year he and Parcells brilliantly waste a draft pick on Pat White and other scrubs and already you knew he was going to be terrible. But one thing I do know is that Ross has done the "one more season" trial before on Sparano, gave him a small extension to keep him from pouting at the camera after he flirted with Harbaugh and got turned down. Wouldn't shock me if he gives Gaine a similar deal, 2 year contract, see what happens with Philbin and him, if everything is all good (competitive in the playoffs minimum), then extend both, if not bring in a whole new regime.
I don't claim to know what it takes to be an NFL GM. I don't know how it can be known a certain person will be a crappy GM if they've never been a GM. I feel like the GM search is like the NBA Draft, outside of the top 2, who knows what you're getting. And there's no guarantee any of these people are the geniuses or morons people are claiming they are.
Great! I could believe that Ross is the greatest owner in sports. But, there really is no basis for that belief. I have serious doubts that, say, Donald Thomas, was rated a 5th-6th round talent by Gaine, and Ireland just decided he was taking him in the 3rd. We can choose to believe what we want, but, based on the track record so far, I have zero confidence in Ross and his regime to make the right choice at GM and think he's failed already in the search.
It wouldn't excite me but at least I realize I know NOTHING about him and neither do you guys. It could be the right hire. I'd prefer Farmer but hey.
I don't know that associating Gaine with Ireland serves the right purpose here. Farmer is equally as qualified as Gaine at this point. It all depends on what transpired in the interview process as to which caught Ross' eye... And for a note, Gaine has been operating as de facto GM since Ireland was shown the door...er I mean mutually parted ways...
Scouting QB's with Ray Farmer video Here's a video that I hadn't seen before featuring Ray Farmer. He talks about what to look for when evaluating quarterbacks... http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/medi...y-Farmer/5556e48f-2ae1-4b23-862a-0b1e6fa28d2e
I wouldnt mind either of these guys. I know there will be some backlash if it is Gaine. But to be honest I think he and Ireland have put together a playoff caliber roster here, the coaching just sucks. Gaine was in large part responsible for the evaluation of the talent on our team now, and maybe he has a better nose for the draft than the Irish, you just never know.
Ya I agree, its a lot to do with luck and getting the right pieces to fit together at the right time. Billicheat taking Brady for instance... I doubt BB really thought that Brady was going to be a HoF QB. But the stars alligned for them. Most of these GM probably evaluate players very similarly, the only difference is their perspective team needs at the time. I'm starting to think that if you threw Kiper's picks by round into a bag and just picked your player randomly, you'd have just as much chance at succeeding as everyone else.
What should he have done differently? Who else should he have interviewed? Whom among the one that have been interviewed should not have been?
http://bluejacket.com/other/calls/Set_Special_Sea_Anchor_Detail_bp.mp3 Now hear this! Now hear this! You are asking questions, Mr. C., for which there will be no answer forthcoming. The most prevalent comments always seem to be that: Everything about the Dolphins is Wrong! Once we accept that premise, further conversation will be entirely absent of rancor or contumely - and possibly substance! That is all!
I read most of this thread… and now I have a headache…. I swear as a group DOlphins fans have to be the dumbest people on the face of the plant... I guess that includes me for actually reading this thread… smh
I hope they hire whichever guy most fans don't want. So we can make sure to have enough sniveling, whining and complaining about how awful, dumb, and clueless Ross is.
