No one's apologizing for things outside of their control. Once you grow up you will realize that all of the angst is worthless. It changes nothing.
You're essentially a battered spouse. You've been beaten so hard in the past you think what's going on now is just fine. You couldn't even imagine what life would be like as a spouse who wasn't beaten [those fans of a franchise who actually contend for and win titles sometimes]. You might think the 1-15 season was your fault. If you just would have been a better fan Huizenga wouldn't have been forced to sell to Ross. If you wouldn't have made the Dolphins mad Ross wouldn't have been forced to retain Sparano and then Ireland for so long. The more you suffer the more it shows you really care. He'll change, he really will. He wants to change. Those other fans don't get it.
If people don't feel some kind of emotion then why even watch the games? Everybody realizes it's outside of their control. The only control we have is not spending money on the team.
Mediocre means crap draft picks. Do you want to be a borderline playoff every year like how we've been? Or do you want to have a chance at truly building your team through the draft with high draft picks which is where most of the playmakers are? Most of the guys we've drafted are good to slightly above-average, but very few of them are playmakers, on both sides of the ball. Jared Odrick is a solid 4-3 DT/3-4 End, but he doesn't make a ton of plays. Mike Pouncey is one of the best centers in the league, but he doesn't score touchdowns. What this team has lacked for so long is playmakers. In the twilight Shula years, we had strong offensive players but weak defenses. In the Jimmy years, we had strong defensive players but weak offensive players. In the Wanny Years, we only had Ricky on offense and an aging JJ Defense that bended and often broke thanks to inept management by Wannestedt/Spielman. In the Saban years, he whiffed on draft picks. Cameron, we draft a KR in the 1st round. Parcells/Ireland took all the bad decisions by previous regimes and amplified them. All of our previous regimes, save Cameron/Mueller, were mediocre in their results. The failure to get a balanced roster with playmakers on both sides of the field(mostly on offense this decade), has doomed them all. Only a new approach can save this team, but I fear it'll still be a while before we get there.
It's rock bottom when Miami is consistently worse than the Bills, the Lions, the Jaguars, the Browns, The Raiders, and yes even the Chiefs. Fan who call for 0-16 are delusional and feed the need for negative news that keeps our hack beat writers employed. Bad was 2007 when we had Cameron Worrell as a starting defensive player. I don't care for mediocrity but i'll take it over bad any day of the week. And guess what? the architect of the last 6 years is finally GONE. Yet posts like this litter the forums in the same off season that Jeff Ireland was finally canned. Ross could promote his dinner from last night to general manager and it would still be better than we have had recently.
No one thinks what is happening now within the front office is fine, but that doesn't mean he's wrong. We could have easily been a playoff team if we didn't melt down the last 2 games. We aren't a 4-12 team.
Of course not, but finishing around .500 is much better than dwelling in the basement of the NFL. The quality of the players being drafted is on the GM and his scouting staff. Mediocrity does not lead to more mediocrity. Being content leads to being mediocre. There are more variables involved with a team's record, other than it's previous record. I just can't ever imagine a scenario where I would prefer my team to win zero games. You gotta give me something to hope for on Sunday, or what is the point of watching?
definitely don't agree with this. mediocrity leads to hesitance to change, which is why Ross fired Sparano a year late, fired Ireland a year late, and if/when we fire Philbin this time next year, it will have been a year too late. bad on the other hand leads to house cleanings and high draft picks to truly rebuild.
Then lose the following week, tossing our chances at a playoff berth right into the rest of the tire fire. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
Sometimes I read you talking about firing everyone. Interesting to ask who you would have rather coached this football team? If Philbin would have been fired. That would be another chance to ***** about the process..... right?
This is rock bottom. At least with Huizenga we weren't treated like the lepers of the league. We might have lost a lot of games but we were respected as an organization. Ethan Skolnick tweeted earlier that if Ross loves the Dolphins as much as he claims he would sell the team. It's just not working out...on any level.
rock bottom was the wannstedt/ fiedler era. this is drilling straight down until we hit the core of the earth
If it isn't rock bottom when a GM candidate chooses Cleveland in winter in a lesser job over South Beach and a promotion to GM, I don't know what is. We are well and truly at rock bottom.
Dolphins probably aren't winning a SB in the next 3-4 years..so...get over it? Or.....you could always...cheer for another team if you are that tired of it? Anyways...calling 8-8 rock bottom when we were in the playoff race all season...you fickle f***ing fins....
In a league where rebuilds (unless you are the Browns or Raiders) routinely take 2-3 years, winning one playoff game per DECADE is unacceptable. This franchise has made one Super Bowl appearance in 30 years. This franchise has made two conference championship game appearances in 30 years. "Cheering for another team" is not really an option, I've been a fan of this franchise since 1982. It's not a "choice", it's in my blood. Expecting more is also not an option in my opinion. I'm tired of irrelevance. This USED to be a proud franchise, a flag ship franchise. A franchise everyone strived to be and respected. We won, a lot. Now? Fans are happy with 8-8 and "in the hunt". I want 12-4 and home field. This franchise has half-assed everything they have done for years. They stumbled in the dark for 10 ****ing years. Fickle? Being pissed off after gagging away (in spectacular fashion) two games to two inferior teams when you need one win to make the playoffs is fickle? Really? I think after being kicked in the face, for a decade, expecting the team to win one ****ing game to make the playoffs, while playing two bad teams is not too much to expect. 8-8 is not rock bottom. 8-8 is exactly what most expected before the season. We are in the death spiral of mediocrity. In the NFL you bottom out, draft well and contend. 7-9/8-8/9-7 year after year is Purgatory.
I think success starts at the top and our owner is just f'ing clueless. I think he means well and he is trying but he can't seem to make a f'ing decision without talking to 30 people first. He kept Ireland around way too long and it's pretty clear that most of the "in demand" GM candidates don't want to touch the situation/environment he's set up. I think the best thing that could happen would be for someone who understands the business and the league to buy our organization.
Cleveland is bad, they have house cleanings every other year and draft high all of the time, and guess what? Still bad.
Dolphins go 8-8, Jeff Ireland is no longer the GM. Have a promising young talented QB developing on the roster. Yep, we've hit rock bottom.
lol. Ireland is gone. According to your incessant whining he was the sole cause for our problems....now that he's gone its Philbin and Ross.... The only constant in this is your whining.
And not just their football team! Some of these whiners should just move to Cleveland, they seem to enjoy drafting high, as if that is their only goal during the regular season, "Win those high draft picks by acquiring loses, lets go 0-16!"
Many of those years were Marino years...I guess that team also wasn't good enough to cheer for because it brought no rings? Even Marino/Shula had 8-8 seasons...what a mediocre combination... Regardless of whether it is an option or not you, that is basically the response you are asking for when you are complaining about "X" amount of years of "mediocrity". If you are really that upset about it...which you clearly are...then then only thing that is in your control is which team you root for. You cannot influence the direction this team is going so if you are indeed that frustrated by all means the door is waiting. You can either accept it or not but....this franchise has ALWAYS been an underdog...even when we were 16-0....the Redskins were the favorites in SB 7. Marino's Dolphins were never Elway's Broncos or Montana's 49ers...but we built up some nice tradition but unlike a lot of other franchises...we did not have the vision or foresight to see past Marino and Shula and plan for the turn of the millennium....we are still paying for that. Last I checked we were 8-8, not 0-2. We played good games this year and bad ones. This is a young team with a young QB and line problems and we just now ejected some of the horrible management/coaching that held us back. We were a competitive team this year. Making or not making the playoffs is irrespective of that. You think the Eagles are high-fivng each other because they lost but at least in the playoffs? No....there are fickle as f*** fans calling for heads to roll over there too. Whether we made the playoffs and just lost....the response by fans would be the same...always glass half empty..... You are being dramatic...there have been tons of excitement and memorable games in the past decade that leave me proud to be a Phin. By your logic teams like JAX and Oakland might as well detonate a massive pile of TNT in the home field because I suppose those franchises aren't going to break their cycles of garbage records any time soon. You forget how bad 1-15 was....it is bad. You want to go through a whole year of that utter humiliation just for a few draft picks? Give me a break....
People act like getting the first pick is a clear path to success when it isn't. Especially when there is no Peyton Manning/Luck/whoever in the draft. For example had we sucked that bad this year but Tannehill had the same numbers, there isn't even a QB in this draft I'd want over Ryan.
I must say you are spot on . the Miami Dolphins were called the dorkfins by Terry Bradshaw 3 weeks ago and I almost threw my tv set out the window. this is all on MR Ross shoulders. I don't understand the need to make excusses by some of you . some of us fans are tired of the politicial correctness and embarrassing headlines and the bad publicity . for when a team has a black eye then good fans should have a black eye and here lately I feel as if I have four black eyes and I only have two eyes and that is how bad it is and sugar coating this does more harm then good .
Cleveland could have Manziel, Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, Carlos Hyde and a good defense next year. They will probably blow it, but this offseason is their shot.
