Caserio. How can we expect old Ross to get their names right if we cannot? You know he trolls this forum looking for advice.
Do you ever watch Breaking Bad? I just started a few weeks ago, got well into season 2 so far. It is ok, but not as great IMO as some of my friends led me to believe. Best show ever they said. Not for my tastes. I am a much bigger fan of Justified, and Deadwood was the best series ever.
So, it gets better? Then I have something to look forward to. Obviously, I was speaking of only what I'd seen so far.
Sorry, Pappy, but I gotta count myself in with the "best show ever" group. Right up there with The Wire. Deadwood is pretty close though. So is Misfits, but your old Bartles & James butt might be too old for it.
If your friends are like some of mine, they have no idea who writers like James Ellroy or Elmore Leonard are or their canvas of work. Even though they have watched shows and movies based on their stuff for 20 years. Lots of stuff has been taken from these guys. Also, some refuse to watch any Western shows like Deadwood, or even modern westerns like Justified. Loved the Justified episode "The Gunfighter" where the hitman, Nix, tried to play a game and stab Raylan in the hand as he reached for the gun on the table and Raylon just jerked the tablecloth to him and shot him. Was hysterical. Good stuff.
The middle seasons of breaking bad are definitely the best. I'm not a huge TV watcher but the series as a whole is one of the best out there. IMO
Your friends weren't lying. Breaking Bad is in the discussion. The Wire takes it as time expires though
If you like Justified and Deadwood as much as I do, might I recommend another in such a western vein? Check out the little-known-but-quite-good Longmire on A&E (1st season is on Netflix). I won't say it's as good as Justified - but then again what is (outside of Game of Thrones)? I think you will like it.
I agree. To be fair though, The Wire could afford to be a lot grittier on HBO. Both have some warts but The Wire has fewer, imo.
Longmire is decent, but a bit slower paced and gets a little askew at times with the Indian mysticism aspects every few episodes. Some good acting from the main character, and interesting story lines, but his deputies are a bit over done, especially with the female, who gets annoying at times. JMO.
