    Our new gm,,

Hickey, who spent six seasons as director of college scouting prior to his promotion in 2011, is responsible for coordinating a staff of area scouts and managing the compilation of information on college players which has proven to be invaluable during the Buccaneers draft process. In addition to these duties, he also oversees the Pro Personnel Department, which evaluates all pro leagues, free agents and trade prospects.

So we conduct a nationwide GM search, embarrass ourselves in the process, and end up with Dennis Hickey. Words can't even begin to describe the overwhelming sense of confidence I have in this organization. Superbowl, baby!

I want to hear Ross on all this. But if he has any self-respect he wouldn't get close to a mike right now.

Certainly not. We wanted Dennis Hickey all along. We were simply doing our due diligence with all them more qualified candidates who said "no, thanks". The moment Dennis Hickey walked through that door, it was his job to lose. We have tremendous faith in Dennis Hickey and we're super excited that he's agreed to become an integral part of the Miami Dolphins. We also have this patch of land we'd really like you to take a look at.

Starting to think I will die to never see the Dolphins win a Superbowl in my lifetime, hopefully my future kids will be able to see them win one unless they are smart and pick a team that isn't backwards.

Fret not! It won't take but 24 hours before someone will make a very compelling (as in: totally out of touch with reality) argument as to why Hickey is actually a fantastic choice, very well regarded in league circles and with an outstanding track record of finding quality players in the draft. By April, he'll look like the second coming of Ozzie Newsome, and saying otherwise will get you flogged.

I was already delighted with the fact my wife and I will be moving out of South Florida and to Maui tomorrow. With all the BS going on with this football team and its incompetent owner, moving over 5000 miles from this mess almost doesn't seem far enough away.

I do feel sorry for all those who will be stuck attending Dolphin games while Ross remains this teams owner. In fact if I wasn't moving away, I doubt if I would have renewed my season tickets next year after seeing how this GM search has gone. If this team wins more than six games next year, I will be completely shocked.

And I'm sure a minion of other fans will ***** and moan about every move, boycott the team, not attend the games and start 15 threads a day about Ross, with an occasional post reminding everyone of Harbaugh and Ireland.

Luckily our new OC is going to be good so this coming up season won't be bad, time will really tell how good this GM is for the next three years.

If we lose next year all of this is justifiable criticism. If we win it all just fades away. We don't need a complete redo, we need a few players and hopefully have a little more luck w/ guys staying healthy. I'll wait and see.

FWIW I was a big fan of hickey's when I was a teenager.

Hickey might have better track record of college scouting than the other candidates. His evaluation of players seems to be better than Dawson, who received his lower marks among the league sources in making player decisions. Hickey can't be any worse than our reactions to his hiring. To most of us he has no where to go but up given his own former franchise never saw the need to interview him as a GM. I have to take that approach.

The guy took the job, he's a personnel guy thru and thru, none of you know his true record, he deserves our support to show us whether he capable or not.

If you vilify the man before he shows you his skillset when you don't know how good he is or bad he is,what does that say about you.

Welcome Dennis Hickey..lets have some consistent drafts for once in a few decades.

In other words, he doesn't want to work in a situation where Aponte and Philbin are a tag team and he doesn't have the same power and responsibilities of most other GM's in the NFL. Hickey on the other hand is willing to accept a GM position with the Dolphins because he understands that no one else has any interest in hiring him for a similar position with their team.

The fact the Bucs ownership wouldn't even interview Hickey for their GM position, even though he already worked in player personnel with them , tells me all I need to know about this hire by Ross.

Gaine either gets some promotion or he leaves. He has got to get out of this mess. My opinion of Steve Ross has lowered significantly. I defended him as not being clueless before. He proved me wrong.

I'm just thankful we saved him from the Bucs clutches...to think, they could have....***gasp***....promoted him, instead of hiring the guy we wanted to hire!!! Just glad it all worked out so well. PHEW!!!
