No you will just turn a blind eye to the obvious. This team is managed by inept, inexperienced, power hungry, people who think mediocrity is good enough. What happened to the "Football Czar"?

Being the 2nd choice I would have no issue with. Being the 5th, 6th, 10th or 100th matters for obvious reasons I already stated.

Ross said he wouldn't settle. He settled. How much has to happen to prove to this man that we have issues much much deeper then just filling our GM position.

Most have agreed it starts at the top. This is the best the top has to give. He has done nothing but go thru the motions. We as fans deserve more.

If guys want to ***** and complain because they are pissed off they deserve the opportunity to do so. After this debacle. THEY'VE EARNED IT

My only concern Mr. Clean is the validity of some of the reports on him from Tampa. Just on the surface, he didn't get an interview after 18 years with the organization, but it was obvious the organization was going in a new direction. That ultimately is probably what bit Gaine regardless of his skill. Hickey has some skill or he wouldn't have survived 18 years with one organization. But some of the reports do have disturbing information in them. Since we will probably never know all the facts, I agree that we have to move on and give benefit of doubt. But I am so hoping for some smart decision making. I am tired of stupid.

I see two options. Either wait and see what Hickey does for a year or so regarding personnel, or just abandon ship and find another team to follow.

This is when you pull that graying, unidentifiable package of meat out of the back of the freezer. Sure, it could end up defrosting and turn out to be steaks, but you had to reach past the fresh steaks in the front that you couldn't afford just to get it.

We may have just got a bargain but odds say hope Tannehill goes All-Pro.

I fully understand where you are coming from. Unfortunately none of the better candidates had any interest in taking the job or even interviewing for the job in the first place. I think that is why so many people are upset with the fact the Dolphins are ending up hiring a personnel man which no other team has had on their radar for a GM position in the past 18 years. Not even the organization which he worked for all those years.

We have no choice at this time but to wait and see how he does. It is just that based on the other individuals Ross has hired or retained in the five years he has been majority owner of the Dolphins. It is very difficult to expect anything but bad to mediocre success from this selection of Hickey as this teams GM. When Ross actually hires someone who is successful in the football side of the organization, it will be a first for him. Hopefully Hickey will be this man, but Ross just doesn't give me any confidence that he actually knows how to hire the right people to make this team a winner again.

As far as the Bucs...they suck as an organization too. Maybe they didn't see what they had in this guy or maybe another terrible organization know he's so bad he shouldn't even sniff this job. I guess time will tell!

Or just stop caring about the Dolphins. Stop buying merchandise, tickets, etc. Just become a general fan of the NFL. Sadly that's where a lot of people in this fan base are heading.

This is rough, but anyone jumping ship or not caring anymore probably wasn't a real fan to begin with.

What I am doing is moving to Maui this coming week and I won't have to sit in Sun Life Stadium anymore and get frustrated with this team. I will still watch the team on television, but maybe not spending over $6000 a year on tickets and other expenses at the stadium, maybe the mediocrity of this team won't be so hard to take. I figure living in paradise will make being a Dolphin fan less frustrating . At least I hope it will.

I guess no one else has seen what Hickey has to offer, since he hasn't been interviewed for any other GM position during his 18 years with the Bucs. Perhaps it is just that every other team has better candidates who actually want the GM position when there is an opening. The Dolphins couldn't hire any of the better candidates, so they signed someone from the bottom of the barrel, IMO.

La Canfora just tweeted the reason Dawson turned down the job is because Philbin will control the 53 man roster in 2014. It's not a real general manager job.

Believe what you want but that would explain why everyone turned down the job.

I remember when Parcells came and everybody thought we are on our way, and look what happened high expectations low results, six years of ****, so lets see what this guy can do maybe he comes in with low expectations, based on what people are saying and ends up being the guy.
Nobody knows what the result will be.

Dawson specifically mentioned the details of the offer wasn't what he wanted. That detail could mean that Philbin had control of the 53 man roster.

You would think that an owner who is hiring a new GM would question why someone like Hickey had no interest for the GM position from any other NFL team over the past 18 years. Of course we are talking about Ross and considering how inept he is as an NFL owner, we already know that he doesn't have a clue when it comes to hiring quality personnel to run his football team.

Next year when the Dolphins have yet another losing season. I see him firing Philbin and only get another mediocre head coach to take the job and work with Hickey. I see the hiring and firing of incompetent head coaches and GM's becoming a regular part of the Dolphin scenario, as long as Ross remains the owner of this organization.

ROSS IS THE PROBLEM, NOT THE SOLUTION FOR THIS FRANCHISE.

This pretty much sums it all up and puts to rest the "media conspiracy" talk.

    Jeff Darlington

Given six years I spent on the Dolphins beat, I shouldn't be surprised by anything at all. Admittedly... I'm baffled by Miami's GM search.

I would love that to be the case. Ross reaching out and toying with that gingerdouche to bring the firing to a whole new level.

How does Darlington saying he doesn't know what we're doing go against other people saying nobody knows what we're doing?

Because everyone kept on saying it was an attractive job based on what Jeff Darlington was saying (I also fell into that trap) since he "is the only trusted guy in the media".

Then Darlington goes completely quiet for a few days when he sees that it's not exactly what he thought and now he comes out and says he is baffled by the whole thing just to save face.

My question is this. If he is so terrible at what he does, why has he been doing it for 18 years? I'm not saying he isnt terrible, it just strikes me as odd.

Ill say what I said about other candidates. We don't know who they would have drafted given the authority so ill reserve judgement until they orchestrate a draft.
