So I was wrong...people only needed a month to forget about six years of Ireland. A raw deal? Guy was given 6 years and survived through half the people he worked for not even talking to him anymore. Yet Philbin and Aponte are the devil incarnate after 2 years. 6 years and one playoff appearance and he is fired and it's a raw deal? I just don't see it at all

Not me. They could have hired Rush Limbaugh for GM, and I doubt I'd use it as an excuse to get drunk. And I despise him as much as any human being on earth, except I'm not sure he is really human. More like an alien escapee from Area 51.

    LOL.
I'm disappointed for now.... but I reserve the right to change my mind May 8-10 and after our FA has concluded.

Besides, I'm always looking for an excuse to drink some bourbon and Virgil's cream soda.

    LOL ^

.... like when your ex best friend who stole the love of your life has an 18 wheeler plow through his living room pinning him in his lazy boy to the wall while the only thing keeping him alive is the pressure of the front bumper holding his organs in place. You mean like that?

It's more than just mixing alcohol w/ a beverage to make it easier to drink in order to catch a buzz. It's a goddam drinking experience.

With every other mixed drink you can pretty much identify the alcohol from the beverage. With a smooth bourbon & Virgil's cream soda, it's like it's one drink, like the cream soda was somehow fermented into a tasty alcoholic beverage akin to a great sipping beer. I'm not even a heavy drinker [usually only do so during football games and nights out on the town or out to dinner] but I'd drink this stuff just b/c it tastes so damn good. The complexity. The long finish. The charred oak and vanilla that comes through nicer and more prominently. Just yummy. I've been drinking Evan Williams 1783 small batch with it b/c it's cheap & good and because the flavor profiles match up well with the cream soda.

From now on, whenever I hear someone's fighting alcohol addiction or is a recovering addict, the first thing I'm gonna ask is, "bourbon & Virgil's cream soda wasn't it?"

Good thing Virgil's is all natural then. AA meetings every Tuesday & Thursday. Seems like a fair trade off, no.

wait.... or would it be a Virgil's Anonymous meeting?

Me too. This is the rare occasion. But for me it's more like drinking out of ambivalence than being in the dumps. 1-15 was in the dumps. This is more on the verge of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder where feelings are in a coma. LOL. My expectations weren't high going into the GM search so I'm not really devastated at the moment. I still have fantasy football and I'll still root for the Dolphins and its players, but I have no faith in anything that comes of Stephen Ross's decisions. I once loved his passion and desire to bring a winner to Miami, but I think I liked him even better as a novice owner fumbling his way through than a 6 year "veteran" who has become even more dangerous with more experience.

No. It's no sweeter than the soda itself, or slightly less since it's mixed two parts to one [or for me it is]. It doesn't taste much sweeter than a great Belgian quadrupel or dubbel beer which this stuff reminds me of. Certainly a lot less carbs than beer.

The only Belgian beers I've tried are Hoegarden and it's bastard cousin Blue Moon.

I usually go basic w whiskey and just get in to JD Green Label or a nicer Beam.

Hoegaarden is honestly nothing like a delicious Belgian quadrupel with a 10% alcohol content and as much complexity and length of finish as a good bottle of wine. They're even like wine in the fact that the longer they sit, breathe, and reach room temperature the better they get. Rochefort 10 for instance is about $7 a bottle [11 oz] and drinks like a $50 wine, and at 11.3% alcohol packs nearly as much whallop.

well, then try it once and tell me what you think.
The 1783 is only 13 bucks and is arguably one of the best values on the market, so it might be a nice, inexpensive alternative for mixing.

For sure. In my younger days I worked for a beer/pop (yes we call it ****ing pop here) distributer and used to knock down a cream soda 2 liter in 2 shifts. I had a problem lol

I'm drinking the addiction as we speak.... and now that it's had a chance to warm, the finish has gotta be close to 30 seconds.... and as good as this stuff tastes, the finish is probably even better. I can honestly say, in the past when I've been this impressed by an alcoholic beverage it's been from a world class beer [like the Rochefort 10 I mentioned] or a great bottle of wine. Never in a million years did I think it would happen with a bastardized mixed drink.

When I think of bastard mixed drinks I think of vodka crudely slapped to some ****ty fruit juice or redbull.

Only downside to a really good mixed drink is they're even easier to abuse, at least for me.

Ommegang makes some great stuff for the money. Try their Three Philosophers [Belgian quadrupel that's accented with 2% Kriekbier, an authentic cherry ale]. So delicious. Great sipper for a fall/winter night.

Personnel men don't always do the same quality work at every stop in their career. As much as Miami loved Joe Thomas for the being the architect of our early 70s Super Bowl teams, when he went to San Fran in the mid late 70s, he did absolutely terrible there. Fans wanted to lynch him or tar and feather him and run out of town on a rail.

The Tampa Bay fans tell us how awful of a personnel man Hickey was for them. That does not mean he'll do the same here. He could as likely be much better or ever worse for that matter. From what we knew about Ireland as Director of College Scouting in Dallas, I remember most fans being very positive about his being hired in Miami. For whatever reasons the results were not as good for him as they'd been in Dallas.
Past history is no guarantee of future results when it comes to GMs, apparently.
