Look at Trent Richardson. Top 4 pick, traded a year later for a late first round pick. Who won the trade? So far it looks like Cleveland.

We don't know the severity of Dion's shoulder injury and we especially don't know if he's an every down player, the guy played limited snaps in Oregon. He's a ridiculous athlete but the trade up was very questionable.

The nice thing is this draft has a lot more talent in the first two rounds than previous drafts. So a late first round pick, I'd do it.

I say ole chaps lets trade as many players as possible so we can clean house and start over.

if we are not going to make use of a player we might as well get some draft picks instead of sitting a guy on the bench .

No, they've developed a self fulfilling prophecy. Again there's nothing weird or out of the ordinary about the power structure. But, apparently the cacophony has been loud and brash enough that the candidates started thinking the tried and true "where there's smoke there's fire". Every non hire, no matter the reason, multiplied that and boom, here we are.

Hell, just look at Cesario. It went like this: We wanted him, he turned us down, something happened and that something was either problems with the Pats or a complete 180 in structure with the Dolphins, and he's interested again, then he turned us down because of raise, no wait because he wanted to fire Philbin, no wait he didn't want to fire Philbin, there were no problems with the Pats and Dolphins didn't change their power structure.

I get it, we didn't get the guys we wanted (I am NOT happy about Hickey), but there is nothing wrong or weird or out of the ordinary about our power structure.

And eat the dead cap? No thanks.

I've seen enough that there is nothing questionable about Jordan to me. Unless like you said there is inside info on his injury.

There were subtle things I saw during the year..not saying his name on purpose a couple times was noticeable, talked about it when it happened, there was something not right.

You throw at the rookie cornerback, right? Same idea with a new GM.

If I am Pittsburgh, I am also offering Big Ben for Tannehill and our 2nd.

Probably true IMO. I've read that Ireland wanted McCoy and disagreed with hiring Philbin to begin with. If that's the case then its probably a good thing he's gone but when guys are turning down our GM job bc they they don't want Philbin either then that's a little disturbing.

The way they used Jordan and Wallace, it seemed like they had no real interest in maxing out their talents. The way they kept RT in the pocket, calling zone runs, virtually ignoring the screen/draw game, they seemed to be running what they wanted to run more than running what was most likely to work given the players they had. Hopefully having Ireland gone will set things straight.

i agree with all of that. No telling who was behind the leaks but I'm pretty sure they were made in order to support Philbin. Gates we know about, I'm assuming that wasn't the only time they disagreed. Ireland had issues with the play calling, so did I, so did most of the people who watched the team. Regardless, Joe is clearly the man in Davie now, I'm anxious to see what he can do.

If I recall correctly, The reason Ireland went up to #3 is because everyone in the organization wanted DJ (specifically Philbin). Ireland said he would only go get him for the right price and left his 2nd round pick offer on Oakland's doorstep, which was accepted last minute.

So no, I doubt Jordan is going anywhere. Unless after one year and positive play (despite it being limited) the team is disillusioned with him.

    That's not what happened.

The reports are that the GM candidates wanted the power to fire the coach if they thought it was necessary. The only candidate that was reported wanting to fire Philbin immediately was Caserio and that now has a conflicting report. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/26/source-caserio-wouldnt-have-fired-anyone/ Its Florio, so take it for what it is, but many of the contrary reports were by equally dubious reporters.

GM's, like everyone else, want more power. Not getting that power PLUS the noise that the media created scared candidates off. The thing is, the power we are offering isn't unique nor minimal and the rep the media has given that situation is not earned.

I'm not really sure why Jordan was played so sparingly.

But, the speculation that it was Philbin not liking the pick and therefore sticking it to Ireland is just over-the-top drama queen suspicion. I think we watch to much "reality-TV-phony-drama."

Philbin's job is on the line. And, are we saying he's going to sacrifice a potential playoff spot by not playing a player who could potentially make big plays because he didn't like the pick? Don't buy it at all.

What I do buy is that, whether he liked the pick or not, Jordan was probably limited in practice because of the shoulder and relegated to PT on game day. And, it may also be that Jordan is not a great practice player - which also would cause him to be limited (especially being a rookie). I think, until proven otherwise, that's a more reasonable scenario.

I do think it would be foolish not to play him this year. And, if I were the GM I would have to have a serious talk with Coyle and Philbin about that. If Ross doesn't see that and give the GM authority over those guys in some way - then he's continuing to fail. If the GM has some influence in the coaching decision next year he can have some influence in this way.

Link? Not arguing with you, I hadn't seen this. I have seen that some reporter or another tweeting Hickey has full autonomy over the roster though.

No I want their 1st and 2nd round pick and because they want him, have to give us a 4th rounder as well. We need to come out ahead sometime in one of these deals

His draft position is a sunk cost. It's hard, but you have to forget what it cost to get him. You know have to evaluate what you have in him, and the cost/benefit of moving him. If you think you have an all-pro on your hands, then you don't trade him unless it's for a ridiculous bounty but you still have to keep in mind the cap hit.

If you think you're going to play him 250 snaps for whatever reason then you start exploring. The guy who picked him is gone. The guys who played him sparingly are mostly still here.
