Kinda like that pic of him at the strip club where he looks so sad to be there. While the original texts were crude and shocked some people, I think most of us guys who played sports or at least had a close guy friend knew that you say crazy stuff to each other picking around.

I'm not taking a stance either way. Just anticipating how Martin camp is going to rebut. Still, I have to say, although I've played sports and continue to, I've never seen texts messages or heard of jokes that vile and perverse. We never go that far. Family is off limits. Race somewhat is - this one is the easiest to overcome with good friends, but still no N word.

Anyway, my stance is both were wrong to a certain degree. The only difference is one is making a national campaign out of it and blowing it out of proportion for his own gain. The other is just defending himself on a need basis. Interesting to see what the Wells report uncovers.

I think it's a sad state of affairs that the Miami Dolphins swept sexual assault at a TEAM event under the rug (even paying off the plaintiff to go away)...but it's the use of the n-word on a private voicemail and some off-color banter between friends that causes them to pull out the axe.

You want a real world example of why the structure doesn't work, that's it. Joe Philbin wanted Incognito gone after that golf incident. Jeff "I have no scruples" Ireland decided against it and pulled rank. Joe Philbin, most likely in the interests of not creating a contentious relationship with Ireland so early into his reign, obviously dropped the subject. Honestly it wouldn't shock me if Steve Ross (their boss) didn't even hear about it until weeks later.

If both of those department heads were working underneath a boss who was present and kept abreast of everything, especially serious issues like that, then that boss could have stepped in and sided with Philbin without making Philbin look like a tattletale.

True, but in the case of the golf incident, shouldn't Nat Moore, or someone else of that ilk had said something to Ross?

Somebody had to approve whatever settlement was paid. If it wasn't Ross, the only other option is Aponte.

Probably Aponte and I'm not sure if she would have reported it to Steve Ross unless Philbin and Ireland were pushing the argument far enough to need an owner judgment.

So Aponte is now head of legal counsel for the Dolphins? There is no way that this was not handled by the legal department and I guarantee you that they would have notified Ross. If that did not happen, then everyone in that building needs to go.

Why is Ross even involved. Was Incognito in a dolphins uniform when this took place?

The payment came out of Incognito's bank account

I think legal would have apprised him of it but probably only briefly. What he probably never found out about was that Philbin and Ireland disagreed on the course of action the Dolphins should take...and that's my point.

I am basing that on the title of the article. It says Incognito paid. It also talks about it costing him $50,000 or more to defend it. It was easier to pay her off and avoid the bad PR

That is a lot of money to not apologize.

My understanding was part of the reason she was upset was because she didn't get a personal apology from Incognito. I assumed the team paid her off, because if someone gave me $30,000, I would accept that as an apology. Maybe it was his lawyers.

I'm sure lawyers were involved. I get the impression there is a gag order in effect as well. I believe the article also states she won't discuss what happened.

    Probably can't.

Can you imagine if you are Philbin, you want this guy gone, and he is supported by the GM? There would have to be some kind of clause that would allow the Dolphins to unload someone who behaves like that? I just think it must have been very frustrating for Philbin.

I question what was Philbin's response? Just asking if Philbin didn't like his boss' decision did he in turn developed a tie with Aponte to undermine his Boss?. I mean most people when your Boss says that's the way it is don't go align themselves with another member of the staff to undermine the Boss. I'm not saying that's what happened I am questioning is it what happened?

What if Philbin and Aponte just naturally hit it off and have a good relationship? Why does Philbin liking Aponte have to be a conspiracy theory?

If you take a step back and just read everything we're talking about in regards to Martin/Riche subject, if rape or molestation is worse, **** on the face, etc etc. This is Dolphins' football conversation. That's why people are as pessimistic and negative as they are. We are a joke franchise. Meanwhile the Patriots' star tight end murdered someone and those fans are not even discussing it anymore, they're talking about how are they going to stop Peyton Manning next year at the AFC Championship game.

The Hernandez thing happened in the offseason and was quickly shelved when real football news became available. This is the end of the season, the only new stories are The Superbowl, coaching and front office changes, and stuff like this. Once the Wells report comes out it'll get it's limelight then will fall to the wayside for news about Free Agency and the Draft.

I challenge anyone to read that and explain how that banter doesn't come across as friends talking to one another. There is no reason this should be on Cogs' shoulders. He should have been cut for the golf incident but this is not his fault.

The worse one was the following:

Essentially you have the image of Richie Incognito trying to PROTECT Jonathan Martin...from a drug scene that centered on the center.

To me it reads like Incognito sounds like he'd be miffed at Martin for not going out with him and instead going to Pouncey's. The no drugs comment could be referring to the cause for not going out with Incognito.
