A very crucial off-season

    Etc. Etc.

To discuss the first bullet: Wake is one of those players that we, as fans, love to have on our team. He's hard working, fierce, and I believe he motivates the people around him based off those qualities. To me, those aspects need to be taken into consideration in addition to his performance on the field while discussing possible trade scenarios. I'm of the mind that no one player is bigger than the team, and if all things considered it is a good idea to get picks out of Wake rather than keep him (he will be 32, and statistically anyway, his performance dropped plus let's face reality here: does anyone believe we're really close to winning a SB? Honest question). But let me put a caveat in that the price needs to be incredibly right, otherwise I am more than 100% fine keeping him. I just think the option needs to be considered and not dismissed.

Jordan I'm not all that sure on. I don't watch college football, and don't know what he was in college. I do know that when he was on the field he impressed (save for the run game), but regardless wherever they put him I just think he needs to be on the field. Not off of it because he "can't play the run". If you trade up for a player and take him at #3 overall, barring a cold day in hell he should be on the field as often as possible. Yes, I know he had an injury last year, and I do agree with a tiny bit of long-term thought caution in regards to him not furthering his injury, but otherwise that "he can't play the run, so we're taking him off the field is BS.

    which offseason isn't "very crucial"?

    Trading Wake would be stupid.

Wake won't be declining for a long long long time. He had a knee injury for crying out loud. Sheeeesh

It was the title of the article.

I don't want to get rid of Wake by any means, but if the right picks / players come along are you both seriously telling me you would dismiss the notion entirely?

I'm not concerned about Wake declining. No one takes better care of his body than him. And I've always believed that players losing their game once they hit their 30's is a myth. There are plenty of players in all positions who play at a high level well into their 30's. No reason Wake can't be one of them.

At this point, if I'm the new GM, I'm looking at every player..

My entire goal for the picks would be to draft a player as good as Wake. Why would I spend $1 million on 1 million lottery tickets?

And when I am looking at Wake I would think, "Wow, we got him at that contract? Score!"

I think the bolded part is the question that really needs to be asked. Can we win a Super Bowl in the next 3 to 4 years? Which is probably the most amount of time that Wake wan continue to play at a high level. If the GM thinks that answer is YES, then we should NOT trade Wake. If he thinks that answer is NO, then we should definitely look at trading him if the price is right. I love Wake, as all Dolphins fans do, he is a great influence on the whole team, but if you put a 1st and 3rd round pick on the table, I'd probably take the trade with a heavy heart...

Like Ricky said and DJ loves to drool over, he takes great care of himself. He is a pro's pro. Sets an awesome example in the off-season and during practice and leaves it all on the field. He has to stay.

Maybe Hickey mentions trading him in a meeting, they all make eye contact and laugh and laugh.

Wake's own opinion comes into play here as well. I heard he hated not making the playoffs this season (I think it was CK who said it)...if he is disgruntled in anyway and thinks his shot at winning a Super Bowl is slowly slipping away from him, then trading him to a team that is not that far away may also be beneficial to him.

I don't want any players on the team that didn't hate not making the playoffs.

IIRC, the way it was worded made it seem as if the "hate" was targeted mostly at the coaches.

One on one meetings, their personal goals and motivations, do they have the best interest of the team, are they intellectually capable of understanding the importance of the offseason, what is their plan, do they want to be here..

sure, but I still wanna know all players intentions and team goals, and whether or not they truly want to be here to build something, not so much wake because I wouldn't insult his intelligence, but are you ready to make the sacrifices needed, if not let me know now.

I'm a little disappointed that Wake hasn't developed his game more. He could have another 5-6 sacks per season if he developed a spin move to complement his speed and bull rushes. He would also help the team a lot more if he could bring heat off the right side the way he does from the left. He's a great player regardless but there always room to improve.

Fortunately I have pretty low expectations for Hickey, and am also bracing myself for possible lost draft picks after the Wells report.

So unless the team gets way way worse on roster talent, I won't be disappointed.

Sad to say, but I expect some F.O. failures and fewer F.O. wins this offseason.

    Hope to be wrong though.

Lol,I wanted to expand on my point, which is basically I don't trust anyone on this team vets included, this gm needs to come in an do things his way, if he feets that this particular makeup of the team is not healthy and not on board as a unit, then everyone is up for sale in my book..

Its gonna take special kind of players to win in this town and in that venue, if he's not aware of that then he will fail like everyone else has.

I think we have bigger fish to fry than Wake or Jordan. I'm more concerned about our LB and S play. Our defense has the pieces to elite but those positions were so poorly played that it really held our defense back. I'm holding out hope for Vernon. He's made some nice strides but I do have concerns about having another undersized DE that struggles against the run.

I really feel like the biggest problem with our team and especially our defense is our identity. we have guys that are better suited for 4-3 and others who are better for 3-4. Are we a finesse/speed defense or tough/smash mouth defense?

If the team traded Wake I'd imagine that would send the players a message we are not serious about competing for the playoffs this year. It'd be unwise to trade a team leader and one of our best players known for their work ethic & dedication.
