Being a newbie, is this the norm? Same 4 or 5 guys trading the same picks and players between each other. There are still teams without team pages. I've been PM'ing people about trades with absolutely no answers. Kind of annoying.... sorry had to vent. PS that was a blockbuster, very nice for both sides...
with the team being put around him (if I decide to keep him), would he really need to be top 5? tho he had already shown flashes of being a franchise qb his rookie year. traded star for okung, and replaced star with Taylor. couple high picks to include and a starter on the oline. my only stand off about trading cam was getting a starter back and I certainly got one back. I'm rambling, I'm drunk.
I have said in the past that teams can't trade if they don't have a team page up but it got shot down.
Yeah there are definitely a few that are inactive or less active then we are...it annoys me too That said Im game for deals if anyone wants something on my trade block or has another idea....
Honestly I didn't ever really know Alex before our first trade this season. We got to talking during that first trade and were on good terms which makes it easier to go back to them. I've also been more in sell mode also. So if your also in sell mode chances are our paths aren't going to cross much. A lot of it is also timing. I'm a night guy and the guys I've been trading with have been around a lot in the wee hours of the morning and the early morning. Makes it easier to go back and forth with a dozen PM's to work something out fast. Part of it also is some folks just hold things to close to the vest. Be honest with me. Here's who your likely to move...here's your ballpark....ok lets hammer it out. I really do like Buckeye's idea of no official trading till your team page is up. Hell I'd go as far as to say team page up and broken down properly by position/cost ;p edit: Ok for example at this point all I'm really doing is moving Bradford and some low end pieces and "maybe" Whitney Mercilus for the right price. So I'm not actively buying. However, I will listen to deals (as FFG knows...I might not be up for something but I will at least explain why). As far as what might catch my interest....ILB/3-4 DE's, Center, slot/depth corners.
For being such a big trade it's pretty even IMO, Mingo was very disruptive and a future difference maker.....I really don't care too much for one of the QBs (I won't say who because I'm not in the business of bashing another GM) but this trade is good value for both IMO.
Oh and another tip. Keep your team pages up to date with not just your players...but your draft picks also. It's never a bad time to play with draft pick position ;p I probably go a bit overboard, but I keep track of everything in my team page. Trades, direct link to trade block...even break down how I currently see my depth chart to give people ideas on what positions to float etc.
I think stuff like that also helps determine who genuinely enjoys this league and who just like the trading aspect or the draft aspect
Guess cut player bidding is delayed ;p Not that it matters with that hot steaming crap that's in there ;p
Oops I forgot about that...I'll post my list tomorrow morning. I'm on my tablet now and its too hard to work on.
Cannot be stressed enough. It doesn't have to be updated after EVERY move you make, but if you can stay on top of it, daily... it really does help. yes, that's what she said.
BTW, this weekend, I'll be bothering people to get their team pages up and accurate! The coaching Fire/Retention went well in the end, everyone participated so I don't think we have any inactive GM's per se... just GM's that are perhaps a little slower than some of us would like. It happens... we do have a ton of rookies this year, more than perhaps ever before. Which is good and bad Some of the fresh meat.. I mean rookies... are doing really well though I think trades are definitely up, but that's just an unofficial look at it. There are certainly veteran GM"s that are also laying low (nice way of putting it). Not naming names, but that's their usual style.
I like that Carolina end of the blockbuster. And I'm not even a big fan of RG3. Which means I'm not a big fan or CAAAAAM either.
Potential changes for NEXT year... that's not this year... next year... 2015... can't trade players/picks unless your team page is up can't make trades within your division (a bit drastic but it does bring back an element of realism, inter division trades should be very infrequent) can't trade a player more than once (cough)
1) Yes, including positions breakdown and cap hit. 2) Too drastic. That's half my trades right there and will instantly cause more team selection headaches as 'friendly' trade partners attempt to stay out of each others divisions. Or make sure they are in Todd's division ;p 3) Again too drastic. Especially if you score yourself a nice deal........why shouldn't you be able to flip it for a better price later? Maybe this is where we experiment with dead cap money. First time a player is traded (free), After first time (50% dead cap) each trade. For example I'd be stuck with a $17 million Bradford on my books just cause a sweet deal for Cutler came my way later. Nah. What do you think started the feud of the year last year. Vengeful thinking he could save money on Jared Allen.
ahhhh now it's getting too blah. the team pages thing is fine but the others are bad. the whole reason I created this league a long time ago was for you to take control of the team. if that meant trading for someone...then holding onto em til another deal came up that was better for you, fine. or even within division. cant restrict that. I know it's just an idea now but that's pushing it, by a lot. if we're making it 'realistic' and whatnot then this league wouldn't be fun at all. hell, you think the Carolina/browns trade would've been made? let's not get too pushy with the rules. the team page thing, more than agree. but the others, ehhhhhh stop.
What, he was nuts to reject my hypothetical proposal: Earl Thomas {2nd runner up DPOY}, Cliff Avril, Red Bryant, Christine Michael for Watt and a swap of 2nds.
I'll tell you what went wrong with that trade......cause it started off well and I had hopes. The first was your inability to counter offer. You took the first rejection and went all Todd on me. If you had just played it out I would have taken much less. The issue being I want to keep with a 3-4 defense and your trying to put clear 4-3 guys on me with a cap value close to $20 million. You had me at Earl Thomas. You just had to sort out the backend and I would have taken a lot less there then taking those 2 on and then having to work double time to offload 2 $10 million cap players onto other teams. Too much effort. So I would have taken Thomas/Michael....all you had to do was top it off right (and I don't mean with star value). Plus I had little interest in a move down draft wise. I'm right where I want to be with those picks.
Yes, No, Yes, though it doesn't matter to me considering. See, what you do Paul though, is you use dead money, then have subsequent trades involve the dead money number. So you're not banning the more than once player trade at all, per se.
I think some agree with what you said, and some wouldn't. I wouldn't. I don't like the idea of constantly throwing **** at the wall with little plan or regard. I like that people have to stop, think, and develop something. Do I really want to get this player? Does he really fit? I think trades like the DET/whatever the hell one it was where Stafford and Suh take away a lot from the game, but I know there's a lot of folks on both sides of that idea. I guess it comes down to do you want to manage something or do you just want to make a bunch of moves?
I think that over-simplifies it. You also have to consider the type of team being taken over. Some of the bad NFL teams in real life need a lot of moves. So if Im taking over the Browns or the Raiders ( ) then what the heck can I do to improve my team? Yeah they have cap space but especially regarding skill players you know how quickly that disappears in this league. SO youre kind of forced to make a lot of moves if you want to take a bad team and at least put it in playoff contention. Conversely if youre a good team, I know when Ive had Seattle and Pitt, I kind wanted to make smaller moves to give them my own "personal touch". When I had Seattle I liked the way they used a nickel package like half their plays in 2013 so I went with a 3-3-5 base which is their nickel look. When I had Pitt in 2012 I liked that they didnt need a lot of help so I tried to make the team more cost effective. Theres a lot of ways you can approach it
shut it... there is no vote, just a discussion. Which I find completely interesting by the way. The notion that friends want to get together and trade with other friends speaks of elitism and exclusivity. Everyone should have a fair shot to make a trade. Teams should want to make trades to make their teams better.. bottom line.
Sorry been tryin for over a week to post team. My computer is down and due to tables in spread sheet couldn't edit in my Droid tablet. Boik kindly helped me out.
Right, taking over the Titans, the team had no identity. I may have made some craxy moves but now you can tell we have a team identity.
