That's assuming the rest of the locker room is as messed up as The Three Stooges. "Moe" and "Curly" are both UFAs and so very unlikely to return. That leaves "Larry", who as more of a follower, if he returns won't have the same clout as before.

Sam is rated well within the Top 100 players in the draft regardless of his sexual orientation.

He's a mediocre defensive end who will get a lot of coverage solely because he's gay.

We don't need a defensive end and you sure as hell don't take a prospect simply to "send a message' or however you wanna justify it.

I've read several legitimate scouting reports of Sam which list him as 4-5 round talent however is projected to DE/LB with no real position in the NFL. As we all know this lack of specificity of position will cause the player to drop and adding on-top of this is a Tebowesque media circus further complicates the responsibility of the GM choosing him. He may be toxic because of his actions of late.

    Wow.

A guy does what no NFL player has ever done before...and someone is out there refuting his commendations on the basis of him not having done it soon enough.

It's not about sending a message, it's about finding a real solution to the culturistic problems, problems with your leadership on the team, and emotional intensity on the field..

The vehicle that is a television gave us the ability to see the man himself, for some to insinuate that this thread or opinion of mine is because of the attention that he got, is ridiculous..

If I'm Michael Sam and I read the Wells report then I refuse to play for the Miami Dolphins even if they do draft him.

It would be impossible for a gay male to read about the treatment of "Player A" in the report, including a shower scene described by Jon Martin in detail that could have been a scene straight out of a number of hollywood movies...and not think of that as a preview of how you will be treated in that locker room. Even if some of the actors in that tragic play are no longer there...doesn't matter.

If I'm Sam's agent I tell the Dolphins not to draft me, a la Eli Manning.

I agree we do not need to a draft a DE, but I do not agree Sam is mediocre, unless your definition of mediocre includes consensus 1st team All American and SEC DPOY who is rated as a 3rd round draft choice at this point.

Its a recipe for disaster for both sides. Miami needs to just return to normalcy.

Na, he could just as easily say he'd play here bc it's such a challenge.

He already made a point of coming out publicly so I doubt he's the kind of person to avoid unpleasant situations.

Let me get this straight, we should draft a player just because he's gay? Because our team is supposedly full of homophobic morons? OK.

    Mediocre = average

A mediocre draft prospect does NOT mean you didn't have a successful collegiate career.

Most of Sam's production came against Arkansas State, Vanderbilt, and Florida.

I would not draft him in round three but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Sunday night we get a monumental announcement from a draft prospect set to become the first openly gay player in the history of the NFL.

By the next Friday we have a detailed report of a pattern of abuse (physical and mental) perpetrated onto an NFL player by his teammates on the presumption that he's gay.

    Nice Dolphins. Nice.

There are people who condoned it who weren't caught in this report because they played it smart. They may be few in number, but I don't trust the locker room until Philbin has at minimum another year to comb through the roster and stamp this out (assuming he does his job this year unlike last year).

Sam will have challenges with certain players regardless of what locker room he ends up in.
He will also have players that are supportive regardless of what locker room he ends up in.
My God this Martin deal has caused mass hysteria with some of you.

As for picking a player because he decided to announce his sexual orientation being a sign of his potential leadership.....
Can't think of a worse idea. If you like him as a player pick him. If not we don't need to make statements.

People projected in the 4th sometimes don't even get drafted so I don't see too much to laugh about. That said, I think he'll definitely be drafted. It's going to be good PR for somebody. Some GM or owner will want to have a nice Jackie Robinson type moment when he is on special teams for the opening day kickoff.

(I mean if nothing else -- the kid may be lights out at the combine and go on the first day.)

I don't get how Michael Sam solves anything. I think people in this country are being so obnoxious about the gay topic that it's becoming annoying to read. Who the hell cares what anyone is into, we need football players that help us win games. Michael Sam plays a position that we are barely in need for, it's a strength in our team. Enough with the drunken thoughts. This country I'm telling you, they get a gay friend and behave so obnoxious just to let people know they know someone gay. Big freaking deal.

If Michael Sam was into animals would we "NEED" him? Or is a gay person the only saving grace for this franchise? Give me a break. Treat him like any normal human being and think properly. Stop putting gays in a pedestal.

While I can see your point DJ... I dont ever see it happening. His agent has already come out and said he wants to/or should (whatever it was) avoid this place, and this situation. I don't see it happening, and I just don't see him mixing, or leading the current culture that exists here. I can see why you think it would help though, but with our depth at DE, I just dont see him taking an active role on the field, and therefore an active role in the locker room either.

What we really need, is Philbin to actually step up, and take control of everything, change that culture in the lockerroom, let everyone know he's the guy, its his way or the highway, zero tolerance on crap like the Martin/Incognito saga, put players in leadership roles that actually are leaders. It's Philbin's team... he needs to take control and clean it up, or pack his bags.

There won't be any Dolphin representatives meeting with Sam or his agent at the combine.

There won't be a single representative at his pro day either.

The Dolphins will not draft Sam.

When considering where Sam will be drafted or if Sam will be drafted just think this one thing. Kerry Rhodes.

This isn't a movie. The guy will be a leader when other guys make him one. Until then, he'll just be one of the guys. The last thing the Dolphins need is another publicity stunt.

Im confused... people dont want other people to voice their negative opinion on him because hes gay... but he can be used as a gay pawn because its alright since you support his sex preference?

well if you come out of the closet and announce to the world that you're gay, I think DJ is going to want the Dolphins to draft you with our fifth rounder. Half the board will oppose this saying you would suck as a football player and we should draft according to who helps our team on merit alone. The other half think the Jets suck
