It isn't an athletes responsibility to be a role model. Athletes in general aren't people you want your kids idolizing. As far as what do you say to your son that loves Pouncey... tell him that he isn't a good person, and that he isn't the kind of person he should want to grow up to be like. Teach him that athletes are entertainers, not role models. If you don't, he's going to look at athletes and rock stars as people he wants to emulate in life... which isn't a good thing.

Lol cant believe this has to be explained.

Fans have no bearing on an athletes life...even their play on the field, contrary to what "djfinfan" says, most athletes do not care what we think...theyre grown men working! At this point I dont care if we put the worst human beings in a jersey, as long as they can seperate their personal life and their (hopefully) good plays.

Thats what some of you fail to realize....Pouncey, Incognito arent the problem...its the culture behind this organization. Professional athletes can be seedy as much as they can be boy scouts...deal with it or buy a professional team of choir boys.

Funny you should mention choir boys. One of this year's DT's is one my draft day dream picks, and he is a campus minister and choir leader at Princeton. He is a choir boy off the field and one of the most ferocious beasts you will see on the field. His friends and family find his on field demeanor to be shocking considering his gentle nature.

Yes, the Dolphins could use a whole team of Caraun Reid type choir boys.

If it wasn't for his back to back sacks in the Senior Bowl we probably could have had him in the 4th, but now he probably crushes the combine and goes in the early 3rd.

Do you get the picture. Free agency and the draft are loaded with choir boys who kick *** all over the football field. Solid LT's like Veldheer and Monroe. Turnover machines like Charles Tillman and Outstanding leaders like Duke CB Ross Cockrell. RT Moses Morgan is another choir boy the Dolphins should target. Trey Millard FB and OC Gabe Ikard are couple more academic all american choir boys the Dolphins should target in the late rounds.

Only effin idiots like Jeff Ireland fill their rosters so pricks like Richie Incognito are in position to become leaders.

All this crap went down because Jeff Ireland was an arrogant IDIOT.

    Of course not.

We need to get rid of our most talented player on the OL (possibly in the whole league) so we can move forward and get back to *****ing about how we have no talent on the OL.

We'll be without him for some time regardless, he'll probably be suspended, might even be traded.

It would be one of the dumbest moves Clean. I can't think of a dumber reason to trade a player... b/c he teased a teammate that was to insecure about himself (long before he ever came to Miami) to handle it.

I still wouldn't be too sure he won't be traded. His treatment of Martin is not the only issue with Pouncey.

Bc he wore a free Hernandez hat? That'd be putting politics ahead of performance, which is again, very stupid.

  10. MrClean

Did they separate their personal lives from their on field play? Did all the interaction between Incognito, Pouncey, Jerry, and Martin have any negative effect on the overall performance of the OL? Incognito may have thought he was toughening up Martin. That there was a method to his madness. Even if so, it appears plausible to me that a lot of things that were going on off the field could have very well had a negative effect on how crappy the OL played this past season.

Yeah, his only connection to Hernandez was wearing that hat. Look, I am not saying if it were my choice, that I would trade him. I am saying I would not be too sure it does not happen.

Could of gone the other way just as easily.

Say we handled Martin w kitten gloves, his play could of been even softer (if possible).

There's lots of great players who happen to be friends/associates of known scumbags.

    This is the nfl.

  14. MrClean

    MrClean Inglourious Basterd Club Member

He did not need to be handled with kitten gloves. Just treated the way players were treated at Stanford, and according to Jim Harbaugh, currently the same way with the 49ers. Just because one extreme had negative effects with Martin, does not mean we needed it to be the other extreme for him to be most able to fulfill his potential. Just somewhere in the middle. Like most team environments.

So allowed to do what he wants w no repercussions like Aldon Smith? SF isn't a great example.

If it was at all possible. For all we know Martin is and would of been a lost cause no matter who or how they tried to coach him up.

  17. MrClean

    MrClean Inglourious Basterd Club Member

For all we know too, Martin would have more likely lived up to his 2nd round potential if not for the presence of a Class A idiot like Richie.

So, the reason Aldon Smith has a drinking problem is because of the 49ers locker room environment?

True. But based on how sloppy he looked physically combined w his play, I personally doubt he's that hard of a worker.

lol Really? No, more like Harbaugh lets his players do whatever they want and he'll still play them. We benched Ritchie for the season after this incident.

Talented players whose character is detrimental to the team get unloaded in the NFL very often.

I wouldn't be surprised and wouldn't condemn the Dolphins for doing it either(trading Pouncey). The personalities in these 3 guys could very well have contributed to our OL looking like a non-cohesive unit for the past few years.

I agree. Given that he's not at T.O. or Randy Moss status yet, I have a hard time believing the Dolphins would even listen to offers less than that

I think the Denver Broncos would seriously consider giving their pick #31 for Pouncey and maybe even a 6th as well.

Remember the first offensive series of the Super Bowl.

Zane Beadles was a weak link at LG and is a free agent. I am sure they will be looking to move Ramirez back to OG.

With Clady back at LT,Ramirez back at OG and a pro bowl center, Peyton could be on his way back to the big one again next year.

The Broncos under Peyton Manning and John Elway probably aren't too worried about locker room antics from Pouncey.

With Pouncey in house for a meager 2.4 mil they could think about bringing back DRC and Decker and using the rest of their draft on playmaking defenders.

It would probably depend on if Peyton wanted him or not. From the things Peyton has said over the years and the way he has said them he seems to be the kind of guy who only cares about his teammates on field performance. What Peyton obviously wants is another ring. I don't think he likes Tom Brady and I don't think he likes Brady being mentioned by some as better than him because of the rings.

I think Peyton would risk the off field crap, like getting drunk and wearing free Hernandez hats, for the on field improvement.

What are the other issues? He wore a hat that some found offensive. He may or may not do drugs based on some text messages, although he's never been in trouble with the league for drugs and isn't in the substance abuse program.

Again... there are no credible reasons for trading away a player of his caliber...

He won't go anywhere. He'll be staying. We'll talk about rehab and counselling and codes of conduct and community involvement. He'll stay. We'll take whatever punishment the league issues and suck it up. Doing this does mean we need to offer the same deal to Martin, whatever you think this is only fair.

He may not be traded. Just don't be too surprised if he is.

There is more of a connection between he and Hernandez than a hat. If there wasn't, why was he subpoenaed as part of the investigation? It may mean nothing serious, we don't really have access to all the details, but it could be.
After the text messages being brought to light, he may soon be on the league's radar when it comes to drugs.

Sometimes the depth of thickness is unbelievable.

The NFL is going to get what IT wants in this situation; and by NFL, I am including the other owners as well.

From the standpoint of the NFL(other owners) they just want this all to go away. IT IS BAD FOR BUSINESS!

The Dolphins are going to appease the NFL because they are under their thumb because of the circumstances.

Turner will be fired and Pouncey traded because it will contribute in a major way to it all going away.

Pouncey in another uniform takes the air out of the balloon.

It's not just about Ross and Hickey making a decision on what is best for the team. There are outside interests. Powerful outside interests.

That's fine. It's their jobs to know...

The common fan, and more importantly, the Good Morning America type that were all so outraged over this thing... the ones that are causing the true pressure on the league for action... they don't associate Pouncey with it.

Boy are you going to be shocked when the suspension comes down. The Martin harassing is just the tip of the iceberg. I don't want this guy around our young OL that will be coming this season. Pouncey is as much a part of the problem as Incognito is.

    http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/02/15/3938309/bullygate-fallout-may-force-miami.html

Wouldn't be surprised if it went to 8 games. Roger's been known to lay down some hefty suspensions.

Chances are they won't trade him..........but they better light a damn fire under his *** to clean up and be on him all the time. If he screws up even once....then ship him out.

In the end, do any of the clowns that anchored this offensive line deserve to be on the team? Is Pouncey THAT outstanding that he's untouchable? I don't think so. And if the "culture" is trying to be changed, doesn't it make sense to dump those who helped create and cultivate that culture? I'm not getting all high and mighty and demanding he be traded, but on the flip side I wouldn't care if he wasn't on the opening day roster.
