At least Philbin eventually made the correct decisions on the staff. Now release/trade Martin and we can move forward from this mess.
I don't think Martin wants to play with the Dolphins, so if he agrees and the Phins pay what they still owe him per his contract, releasing him shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully that'll be the last piece to put this awful mess to rest.
Joe Philbin even released a statement! Or, more appropriately, as Peter King called it, "A vanilla piece of dung." But hey, Philbin's accountable...starting now.
And it appears now Philbin will speak: Peter King @SI_PeterKing 1m Dolphins announce Philbin will speak to media Thursday at 9:45 am. It's the right move, and overdue.
Worst offensive line in franchise history, uhm yeah, changes should have been made. Martin was just a cog in the crappiness, IDC abt the other stuff. I am glad they hired the Texans OL coach, or fmr OL coach, as a contingency. However the timing is really all screwed up now, this should have been done prior to the Combine.
So they could have fired him immediately after the season (or during really, wouldn't have made them any worse)... or they could have waited for the league to suspend him and save money in the process. What do they do? Why, wait for the last possible moment in order to maximize the magnitude of failure. This way, we save neither face nor money. Clown noses all around folks. Do you see what you did, Stephen Ross? DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU DID?! You made lmeister be serious! *shakes fist*
At this point, I see no harm in bringing in Polk High's finest specimen to help lead this hapless franchise back to its glory days.
I'm thinking the 'phins did the legally smart thing of a 'show cause' notice to Turner, get his version on their books and legalled before they fired him. The fact that Turner got promoted to an OL coaching position in the first place says a lot for how the aggressively loud and macho behavior is rewarded in the NFL despite results. So when the people hiring are impressed by meatheads, meatheads are what you get. I've got nothing against aggressive and loud per se, just noting that it is not a substitute for good technique and solid fundamentals.
Mr. Turner obviously went to far. He was brought in to bring toughness to a unit that lacked . Sometimes decent people go to far. Ive made mistakes, lets hope Mr. Turner doesn't make the same one again. time to move on good day for the Phins purge the dark energon.
Ross has done everything, every move deliberately. The reasons for 'waiting' to relieve these two guys have to do with legalities as well as ensuring exactly what their parts in this ordeal was... As to Ross' penchant for being 'deliberate', look at his history...he's never flown off the handle, like many of us fans, and made rash decisions... That's his nature. Unfortunately, it's different than most owners culture in the NFL. He also is very, very likely consulting with the league... We all know he is averse to firing anyone, period. But he's doing what he has to do and I'd like to get this behind us as quickly as possible, but this situation requires some tact and forethought, so being deliberate is the call for the day... This isn't going away soon, in fact, there likely will be far reaching consequences that change the culture of the locker room in ALL teams. Some of those changes need to be made to fix the issues that caused it to happen here in the first place, and some changes will be made that will change what we, as fans, perceive what happens in the inner workings of an NFL organization that affect all teams, not just ours... Watch out for more, it's not over yet...
This *1000 by waiting they could say they were waiting for the league... by doing it now, after sending O'Neil to Indy first, they look just and confused and clueless as ever. this somehow keeps getting worse
Damned if ya do ,damn if ya dont! They took 3 days to digest the info. Then acted. O'Neil gets to be at the conbine 18 yrs gets that love. Turner stayed home and news is let out right before our new GM speaks today.
